I’ve got a bit of a surprise for readers of my column today! For the first time, we are featuring a Podcast, which is something that I will be featuring every week, I hope! I’d be interested to know what you think about the podcast. This was my first attempt at putting together a podcast, so it is not perfect. I caught on quickly, though, and know that I can make improvements in my next attempt! I hope that you can overlook the few little errors on this one! They are minor, though, I think.

Super! And you opened with music - way to go.

You sound great Bob. This is very nice.

  2. Bob on January 26th, 2008 6:49 am

Hi Nick - Thanks very much! As this was my first attempt at doing a Podcast, I learned things about doing it, and can improve on the quality of future attempts! I’m glad that you enjoyed it, my friend!

  3. RichardfromGA on January 26th, 2008 7:29 am

    Hi Bob,
Great information as always. Sounded great! Now I have one more thing to look forward to on LiP.

  4. Tom Nixon on January 26th, 2008 8:08 am

Your voice is completely different than the one I had created for you in my head. Isn’t it odd how that can happen?

And I like the podcast and I am sure will be a regular listener.

  5. Bob on January 26th, 2008 8:41 am

Hi RichardfromGA - Thanks for listening! I’m glad that you enjoyed it, and will look forward to having you listen to future editions!

Hi Tom Nixon - Ha ha… I know what you mean. I often get a mental picture of what somebody looks like, or something like that. Isn’t it funny how we do that?

  6. tommy on January 26th, 2008 8:46 am

Hi Bob, listening at the moment at your podcast.

It’s good to hear you (so that’s your voice, Bob ) and Dave Starr discussing things in the podcast (and the local banks discussion is interesting). More of this. It’s like listening to our local radio again (ah, memories back home).

I think having such podcasts like this is good for lengthy discussions on a topic in which one blog post could not done.

  11. Louis on January 26th, 2008 11:01 am

Cool deal Bob, gives me an idea for something on my blog. So when are you going to inverview me on Phil-Am cooking?

  12. Lonnie on January 26th, 2008 11:11 am

 Hello Bob. Congratulations on your first Podcast, it was great. Just wanted to let you know that you are PLAYING VEGAS! It is nice being able to listen to your podcast while sitting in Las Vegas drinking wine! Very enjoyable, thank you.

  13. Dave Starr --- ROI Guy on January 26th, 2008 11:44 am

Gerat feedback so far … I’ll put this up also, unchanged for now, on my own blog. I think you should interview a o lot more people, Bob … it worked so well with Skype I was really amazed, considering how ‘iffy’ my connection sometimes is.

We could certainly do more segments just on banking alone … and I’m sure there are a lot of other questions people have.

  14. Bob on January 26th, 2008 11:59 am

Hi Jio - I’m glad you like it! Ha ha.. bringing a little piece of the Philippines to you!

Hi Louis - Glad you like it too. Podcasting is great fun!

Hi Lonnie - Wow, I’ve made Vegas! Well, in this case, I hope that what is happening in Vegas doesn’t stay there! Glad you enjoyed it,and save some wine for me too!

Hi Dave Starr - Thanks for being part of it! I’m glad that it worked so well. Recording Skype is not an easy thing! I thought it would be simple, but it is a bit complicated. Luckily, we got it worked out! Talk to you again soon!

Hi Bob (HI) - Our next project is going to be converting all LiP videos over to IMAX format, you know the big movies that are shown in domed cinemas? Be prepared!

  17. Louis on January 26th, 2008 12:41 pm

IMAX? Yeah Bob but does that mean I have to goto MoA in Manila to read your blog?

  18. Klaus on January 26th, 2008 12:54 pm

  22. Jim on January 26th, 2008 5:22 pm

Hi Bob- This pod-cast brings a whole new dimention to internet community socializing. It breaks down bariers as others have mentioned and brings everyone together to discuss subjects and interests almost real time. The other advantage is that you can listen when you like and over and over again.
Well done Bob for introducing this new dimention to Living in the Philippines.

Great idea Bob listening to audio sometimes sinks in much better than reading page after page. Found it very interesting. Now i have to go and find out about skye? to pose a Question….

  34. Bob on January 27th, 2008 8:26 pm

Hi Graham - watch my column tomorrow for details on how to reach me to pose a question on a future podcast.

  35. athena on January 27th, 2008 10:21 pm

you spund great bob… i wasnt expecting that youll sound that nice :)

  36. Brian Miller on January 28th, 2008 11:26 pm

    Bob,
Can you explain a bit more to me about what you and Dave spoke about regarding writing yourself a check at the first of the month. I didn’t quite understand.
Podcast is nice addition. I have also visited Dave’s sight so it was nice to put a voices with you and Dave.

  37. Bob on January 29th, 2008 5:41 am

Hi athena - Thanks very much!

Hi Brian Miller - Well, with regards to “writing yourself a check every month” what we were talking about was that if you have funds that are in your US bank account (maybe your Social Security is regularly deposited into your US account, or whatever), then once per month you write a check on your US account and deposit it into your Philippine account. Let’s say that you need $2,000 per month for your living expenses. On the first of the month you write a check for $2k on your US account, and deposit that into your local account in the Philippines. At first, you won’t be able to access the funds, because it will take about 45 days for the check to clear. So, on month one and month two those funds will not be available. But, when month 3 rolls around, the funds from that check will be available to withdraw and live on. As long as you write that check every month, then starting with month 3, then every month your funds will be available. I hope I explained it better.
