I’m going out of town today

I am actually writing this about 12 hours ahead of when it will post on the site, sitting here at my desk making plans for tomorrow.  We are headed out of town for the day.  Remember yesterday, I posted about my mother-in-law?  Well, today we are taking my Mom to go and visit with Mama.

My Mom and Mama have met a number of times now, and they are actually quite close to each other.  Like me in my earlier days, My Mom can’t speak Bisaya, so her and Mama don’t have a great deal of talk between them, unless it is translated by somebody.  But, still, they are like Me and Mama, in that they have a common love for each other, and a common respect that leads to a relationship that transcends words.

So, today will be a nice day, giving Mom and Mama a chance to be together again, and whenever they get together it is always in the back of our minds that it might be their last time to see each other.  But, that makes each meeting just a little more special!  The meeting will be a surprise for Mama, and I know that it will make her feel good when she sees us early tomorrow morning!

Hi John – Haha… yep, as the article says – “we are taking my Mom to go and visit with Mama.” ha ha… I think you overlooked that part.

Actually, it’s 1:10pm as I type this, and we just got home. Mama came home with us too, and also a 3 year old niece came to stay with us for a while. Our family here in the house was so excited and surprised to see Mama’s return!

    hi bob,
it was so touching reading the article about your mother-in-law, how wonderful it is that not much word needed to express your love and respect to her as everything is understood by looking at her eyes !! I hope that she will always be happy and healthy !!!
ps: by the way i sent you a private message yesterday and if i am annoying you please kindly accept my apologies and forget it. thank you !! all the best !!

Hi marygrace – We had a wonderful get together in GenSan with Mama. She and my Mom indeed always enjoy seeing each other.

Hi frank – Thanks for your nice comment. By the way, I did respond your your e-mail yesterday. Please double check if you have a spam folder or junk message folder, perhaps it ended up there, because I responded about 23 hours ago. No apologies necessary! I was happy to have received your mail!

    Bob,

I hope that you and your entire family see good times! I completely agree how love and respect can be expressed in such a way that words are not required. It helps sometimes, lol, but it is certainly not necessary! I can only hope that my mother and Marleen’s mother would have such a relationship!

    Good luck and God Bless!

  7. Nice news, Bob … I never read an article like this without a silent prayer that those guys always at odds with their in-laws will somehow find common ground and learn how wonderful “her” parents can be as well as their own. I hope both mom’s have a nice visit … they have much more time to get to know each other this way, rather on just a short “check-in/check-out” day trip. You’re very wise to have that large house … never any way to know in advance when having the space to sparre wil make for a great family event.

Best things in life are so often unplanned.

Hi Lawrence J – Thanks for your comment. It seems that we always have good times in our family! I think part of that is that we are looking for good times, not having expectations that times will be bad and such! I thin k that you often get what you expect!

Hi Dave Starr – Thanks for your nice comment as well. Yes, having extra space always is nice. In our case, it seems that the extra space always tends to get filled in with people! Ha ha… it always seems to work out well, though.

    Hi Bob,

One of my best memories of growing up were of summer vacations spent with our cousins at our grandmother’s house. Sometimes, there were 10-15 kids in the house! Oh, did we drive her crazy! One time, she chased us out of her house with a broom yelling “Go home, you little devils!” Well, can’t blame her. My brothers and cousins managed to break the branches of her favorite fruit tree.

Mama reminds me of my grandma. Tough lady!

Hi Tina – Ha ha… I can see your grandmother with that broom, chasing you kids around! Those kind of memories are something that are not that great at the time they happen, but years down the road, they are a treasure!
