Health Risks

Two days ago I wrote already about illnesses and their financial problems – not only for Filipinos, but also for ex pats.

Whether we like it or not: every day we are confronted with upcoming news about health risks. How about this: Caffeine consumption by pregnant women can increase the risk of miscarriage, a new study reports. And, it doesn’t matter if the caffeine comes from coffee, tea, soda or hot chocolate… . Mmmh!!!

200 milligrams of caffeine daily, the risk of miscarriage increases twofold. Our family doctor advises us always to consume 3 up to 4 liters of water daily. How do you manage this, my dear reader? I am not a fan of drinking tap water and some very bad news about “bottled water companies” don’t let me enjoy drinking this water any more.

How you handle this??

Hi Klaus,The dangers of caffiene to pregnant women is fairly common knowledge here in UK.When i had my annual Medical check up a while ago i was astounded when the nurse told me i should drink 3 to 4 ltrs of water a day.I said thats impossible,if i drink that on top of the large ammount of tea i drink i will never be out of cr.She then told me all that caffiene will only dehydrate me.I replied i will change to de- caff, she didn’t appear amused.I have gone all de-caff now,wow the withdrawl syptoms, felt bad for a week.A few weeks later i read an article by a scientist saying that the benefits of drinking large ammounts of tea and coffee far out weigh the dehydration effect of caffiene, as you are still consuming a good water content.I have noticed there is so much conflicting evidence around these days, everyone is confused. The latest crazy gov idea here is to put health warning on butter and cheese for the fat content. Its strange though, when we visit phils i can drink much water due to the heat.I was not aware of a bottled water scare in phils.Maybe a water filter jug like we have in europe may help,or fruit juice which is 90% water anyway.I try to drink a little more water here these days but tea is still my 1st choice.

Hi Chas, thanks again for stopping by and leaving this interesting comment. Yeah, caffeine or not, I also try to follow all these advices and drink 3 up to 4 liters water, especially here living in a tropical country. Best wishes to you in the U.K. and enjoy reading LiP.

I hope the filipinos don’t end up being a bunch hypochondriacs like americans because of all the statistics we get shoved down are throats every day here in the over medicated USA. There must be a pill I should be taking. I’ll find out what I am needing watching television.

Hi John, you are right. Do yu remember one of my first posts here entitled “Idiotic TV”  …????

No I’m sorry I missed that one Klaus. I do wish we didn’t have to hear about all the stuff that kills us quicker so often. It is too personal for a marketing gimmic I think. Take care Klaus
