Hi there Rick

It was nice to come across this very detailed blog of yours about Apo. I grew up in Davao myself but moved to the States when I was 14. Now, I'm 20 and I'm coming back to volunteer for an org down there. I'm really really keen on climbing the peak but don't know where to start. Would you care to share any tips or any contacts from your trip last year? I really hope you could reply! Thanks much and hope life is treating you well over there. :)

hi rick!
me and my husband is thingking of climbing mt apo this april and reading your blog makes us really keen on doing it. though im doubtint if i can make it to the peak myself as what you are saying in your blog that it is a tough one ,though i've done the climb in Mt. kinabalo (borneo)the highest mountain in southeast asia. For preparation we're doing quite a lot of walking up hill here in uk . Hope it will be enough practice . :-).Since you've done it and your leaving there in davao we would like to ask if you had any contacts of the people where we can possibly organize the climb, permits, guides and porter ahead of time.It will really be helpful to us.
Thnak you...and best regards to your family

Hi back to you Hill

I did that drive down to Gibraltar some few years ago (may be 10) it is a very ugly part of a beautiful coast at the Gib end isn't it. And to be honest i didn't really like Gibraltar and if i went there and there were parties of british shoppers i would hate it more hahaha, you know i'm british so i can be rude about british people

Very happy christmas and lets hope for peace and a more stable new year, God bless and best wishes to you and your husband. rick

Hi, Rick. How so nice to know that you are very familiar with the Costa del Sol. yesterday, I drove to Gibraltar with my husband John and you'd think when we got there, there would be fewer people. Wrong! Too many British folks shopping and filling the shops, especially at Morrisons, you'd think you were in the UK. Despite the weak pound, there's no let-up with shopping among the Brits on the Costa del Sol. They sure know how to forget their woes...the border between La Linea and Gib was about five miles long. Gib had a booming trade. Yes, Fuengirola is next door to Marbella. Good to know you enjoy mountain-climbing and treks. Just be extra-careful and make sure they have official rescue teams, just in case. Anyway, hello to your wife and congratulations on having finally your dream of a healthy gorgeous baby. Regards. Hill

Hi, Rick. Greetings from rather cold Spain. What a coincidence! And so nice to hear from you. What a lovely baby you've got there. So you lived in Barcelona for
a while...indeed, all memories now. Barcelona, although a beautiful city, is experiencing a new generation of "nasty elements"---too many troublesome kids
wrecking the city/towns along the way. You asked where exactly I am? In Marbella.
Have you been here? We call the Costa del Sol a "British Colony" but i guess you know that yourself, ha ha ha!
All best wishes to you and your family and a very very good 2009!
(The last time my husband and I were in the Uk was last year, I think, during the
great British floods to attend a wedding in the Lake District. Drove up and down
the motorway for almost a month, or almost 1,000 miles! in the floods. Still, it was fun while it lasted. With the British pound being so weak, unfortunately, we had to shelve foreign European travel. )

Thought i'd replied to you, but didn't appear, sorry if i repeat and thanks for posting and saying some nice things about my climb and story, which i loved and will do again next year i hope

i do not have any thoughts about sending my story to other publications, thanks for the thought though, i just try to stay quiet and out of the way but i do enjoy taking part in Bob's blog, i live here in Davao and think the blog is very positive for the area.

Hey i lived in Barcelona quite a few years ago and had a very cold winter there, loved the place but the weather in some ways seemed colder than the uk, anyway all a memory now,....where in Spain are you and what line of business are you in?

Best regards and merry Christmas to you too..

Hi, Rick, greetings from Spain...It's very cold and wet here so I decided once and for all to read all the bloggers' contribution. I came upon your great story on climbing Mt Apo. Hope you submitted this very informative and touristic article to Philippine Daily Inquirer. No doubt they would have published it. As for the
Tourism Secretary Ace Durano, hed' be jumping up and down knowing a Brit
has climbed that famous mountain. It's not yet late to have it republished. I know
a lot of people in other parts of the country--or even beyond---would be quite interested.

A very happy Chrismas to you and your wife and a very very good 2009!

Macky

good story about the old lady in the white dress, this was why i advised people to take advice before they went up, so, they would take the right equipment and especially clothing. a friend of mine climbed Apo 20 years ago and thought it was a stroll, he was freezing all night, couldn't sleep and had a miserable time...taught me a lesson, Bob's comment when he saw me wearing a jacket on the pictures (on the gallery) was about the cold and yes, i was sure glad to have that jacket....but i left 3 or 4 jackets like that in UK, when i came here in January and was a bit upset to have to buy another for the philippines, but i needed it

me too now i wonder how that lady got on, what were they thinking of?
