Its difficult to change a person's habit as this has been his practice all the while. Maybe we can promote the use of toilets on TV and shows how silly it would be not to use the toilets in front of the kids or ladies in tv clips and all these to be sponsored by TV companies.

John,

Your final comment is like I joke I use here. I say I believe in equal rights for women in the Philippines, they should be able to pee in the side of the road too.

Sorry Peter for delay in responding I went to the toilet in the normal manner.

This subject seems to have highlighted a big cultural difference and its strange one to dwell on too, however as the Philippines grows I think this culture needs to be modified. I never see this in Thailand,Vietnam OR WHAT ABOUT jAPAN.

i HOPE THIS CAN BE GROWN OUT OF THE CULTURE AS THIS BELONGS TO 500 YEARS AGO NOT NOW

Ok, we, pinoys shld admit that we are "casual" abt this habit of peeing in the open. It's cultural, I'm sorry. Apart from the smell though, it can be debated that piss is good for the trees. But for concrete walls, it's really nasty. For non pinoys, this habit is really disgusting. When I got here in the US, I had never peed in the bushes even if I could. Too scared to be caught.

It is an ingrained habit by Pinoys that also happens in first world countries, but only discreetly. Here in canada, there are no pay per pee or pay per poop, like in the Philippines. Almost every establishment have clean washrooms. So you don't have to go find a wall (or pay) every time you need to poop or take a leak. I'm glad though that Pinoys are now trying to get rid of this habit.

Dan

You make an excellent point.
I assume we will be charged fined and on TV. Also I am sure like many laws in the Philippines that there must be something in the law that states not to do ot, but as usual it will be ignored.
Migs
Have you smelt he Baywalk recently??

I would say it is acceptable for a filipino to do this but i wonder what would happen if a visitor (white person) did this?

Yes, John, I can attest to what Rob has said above; it no longer happens in beautiful, clean, and disciplined Manila.
