Off to Samal Island

Again – it’s time for ‘time-out’ for me. After some very stressful weeks and certain trips to Sarangani and South Cotabato (I will post something about it in near future!) I will be heading to “my paradise” Samal Island and stay there for almost a week.

samal

I think I must not mention anything about my favorite beach resort. Of course, every time I stay on Samal Island, I do see a lot of improvements. On the side I also get news about Boracay in my mind. And honestly – it’s correct, what Philippine Star columnist Jeepney Vargas wrote a couple of weeks ago:

“What happened to the Titanic, you could pretty much see happening to Boracay. We’ve all heard about the sinking of the island. And while everyone’s having a booze-fueled blast, booking rooms at the full-fledged resort-and-resto city the island has become the whole idea of “whatever happens in Boracay stays in Boracay” is headed straight for a towering iceberg of destruction.”

I met several people during the last weeks, and – they agreed with this! Sayang!!!

Not everyone agrees with Greenpeace. But I strongly do when it comes to Boracay. Greenpeace’s “Save the Climate Save Boracay’ is indeed a hot way to take the heat away from Boracay. I hope and pray, that we don’t need a “Save Samal Island” one day.

I could also mention any other beautiful places in the Philippines, but as a Davao resident my heart beats very much for Samal Island.

Let’s just join some very simple but important things, which have been mentioned in Vargas’ column:

Save energy: Yes, you are at the beach or somewhere else, so you might as well switch whatever requires electricity and a socket off, before you left your room.

Reduce waste: Any establishment has a trash can. Use it!  The environment is not a trash can!

Move more: Sure, I love relaxing, eating, drinking and sleeping. But I also love to swim – and to walk.

Enjoy your summer days, guys!

And help Samal Island keeping saved…

long may samal remain the paradise it is, at least until they screw it up and build the bridge. Maybe you get a jolibee franchise in anticipation!

    Hi Klaus!

Have a great week in Samal! I’m almost at the point where I need a good vacation too. Good thing I’ll take my week long break at the end of May — I’m taking a group of friends for a week of island hopping and adventure in Surigao and Siargao!

Relax, my friend, and enjoy the beach!

Hi Klaus, is this the small island very close to the DVO city? I think I was there about 10 yrs ago. I remember we rod a tug boat I think and we were brought to this resort teeming w/ tourists, there’s a restaurant as well. The sands were not fine I think but somewhat white. This was 10 yrs ago. I imagine that there’s been a lot of improvemnets there.

Hi Martin – Have you ever been up to Dinagat? I’ve been itching to go up there. If so, I’d love to hear a little about the logistics of such a trip.

  7. Klaus says:

Hi Martin, meanwhile I am back again in Davao – hit by many things to be done… but, that’s life. Better then sitting bored under a palm… . Enjoy also your time out and relax my friend…

  8. Martin says:

    Hi Bob,

As a matter of fact, this upcoming trip we were supposed to be visiting Dinagat! But my friends will only be staying for a week, and they really want to go to Siargao as well. So, we plan on doing 3 days of island hopping out of Surigao City and 3 days in Siargao. I’ll let you know if we change the route again and add Dinagat to the list.

    Cheers!

Hi Martin – Keep me posted if you make it to Dinagat!

Hi Daryl Lister, you are so very right with your comment. I agree with you. i heard about the bridge project already first time i came to davao in 1982 (?)… .

  11. Klaus says:

Hi Phil n Jess, yeah, I enjoyed my time out – but unfortunately I got as little bit lobster colour… Maybe I enjoyed too much swimming… but it’s okay… Thanks for your good wishes.

  12. Klaus says:

Hi Danny, thanks. I really did. Samal Island is always my place for “recharging” since 1982… .

  13. Klaus says:

Hi Roy, yeah, it’s the island (in Davao Gulf). I am not sure, which beach resort you visited. There are a lot now, but my favourite is Paradise Island Park and Beach Resort (also since 1982). We know the owners since that time. Excellent foot, outstanding staff, quite places to swim and rewind… . mmh – actually I shouldn’t make more promotion.

Anyway, thanks for dropping by. Let me know, if you plan to visit Davao and Samal Island as well.
