49 Ways to make a living in the Philippines, by Bob Martin

You know, if you hang around many expats who live in the Philippines, or even visit expat forums on the Internet, there is always one thing that you hear on them. What is it? “You can’t earn money in the Philippines!” Well, I am here to tell you that such a statement is simply not true! A lot of people also say: “The best way to earn a small fortune in the Philippines is to arrive with a large fortune.” Well, that does happen to a lot of people, but it doesn’t have to happen to you! I have been living in the Philippines since May 2000, and since 2002, I have been earning all of my income right here in the Philippines! You can do it too, but you must learn how to do it. It is not something that comes easy. I came to the Philippines with a load of money, and I spent it a lot more quickly than I thought I would! When the well was almost dry, I had to face reality. I had two choices:
- Go home.
- Learn how to earn a living in the Philippines.
I chose #2! And, I succeeded! It took a lot of learning, and a lot of work, but I figured it out. Now, I want to help others learn how to earn a living in the Philippines. What? You think that I am not being honest? Let’s have a look at a couple of my bank statements: This Bank Statement shows that my income that was deposited into my checking account was $19,117.66 for this particular month.
Here is another bank statement showing a monthly income of $20,750.73 Order Bob’s Book Today! Now, the truth is that I don’t earn $19,000 to $20,000 each and every month, but also it is not too uncommon to earn that kind of money. At the minimum, I would say that my earnings are about $12,000 per month, and I have earned figures a lot bigger than what you see in the photos of my Bank Statements above.
All of these earnings are made right here in the Philippines too. I don’t have any kind of retirement or Social Security. No annuity. No earnings in the USA (or any other country) at all. Heck, I’m only 46 years old – too young for any retirement anyway! Do you want to live in the Philippines and earn money like this, or even just enough to fund your lifestyle here? I can show you how! Order my book today, and let me share with you 49 different ways that you can earn a living right here in the Philippines! What kind of ideas do I offer? Well, you know (I’m sure) that I make my money online, all through the Internet. However, I know that some of you are not computer gurus, or may be uncomfortable using a computer. Because of this, I offer ideas that are Online, Offline and also Hybrid ideas that are a combination of online and offline. I believe that the ideas that I offer are perfect for anybody! And, by the way, you don’t have to be an Internet Guru to make money over the Internet! You’ll discover that after reading my book! Here’s another thing – I offer this book in two different versions – Electronic or Paper. If you order the electronic version, you can download the book immediately after paying. If you order the paper version, we will ship you the book directly to your mailing address. Either way, it is the same book, the only difference is the format! I offer a 100% Satisfaction Guarantee – if you buy the book and find that it is not what you expected, just let me know, return the book and you will get 100% of the purchase price refunded to you! If you have been reading my various Websites for any length of time, I think that you know me and trust me. I am not offering pie in the sky, and I am not out to take your money. I want to provide you value, a real shot at being able to live in the Philippines and to be able to earn a living right here! Let me help you find the lifestyle that you are looking for!

i plan on ordering next month,……..good luck on the move
dave
Hi Dave – Yes, actually I have done, at one time or another, probably at least 40 of the things that I list in the book. These are real world ideas that will work!
hi BOB. I’m a Filipina who would like to ADVERTISE your SITE and also your E-Book, simply to say i would like to have a job from you on marketing or advertising.. I’m a single parent wanted to have profitable income.. If you like to i can give you some BUSINESS proposal here in philippines,. Thanks a lot.. Hoping you can give me a shot on this.. ^^
Sorry, I don’t have any open positions right now.
thanks bob.. When there’s an available position just let me know.. Goodluck
..
This sounds alot like a 5-6 business where someone loans out 5 and gets back 6 at the end of the week (thereby making 20% in 1 week).
This is illegal and dangerous!!!
I live in the PI and I know a person who did this and he ended up fleeing for his life and leaving all his belongings behind.
Others who have done this didn’t get away
Ha ha… Greg, how can it “sound like” 5-6? It is ideas for 49 different businesses that will make money in the Philippines. Every one of the 49 ways is legal and ethical too, and does not involve money lending in any way. Get real man….
Hi Bod I spent 1 year in the Philippines and I had to return to the USA. I left my wife and son behind. I need to return to work to support them there. I really want to return back to PI to live. I’m interested in your book, however I’m a little be skeptical any of your business ideas would work given that most of the country is living below the poverty level. The other thing I’m wondering is that one would need a lot of capital to start up any kind of business in PI. There are a lot of government regulations a foreigner must go through to start up any business. I would need to know a little more before I fork over 39.00 bucks for a book.
Hello IC – $39 is cheap for what I am offering you. The fact that “most of the country is living below the poverty level” is quite a reason considering that I don’t sell the book in the Philippines, so really it has no bearing on what is in the book. What is important is that I am not living below the poverty level, and that is because of the business ideas that I have in the book! Most of the ideas are things that can be started on $100 or less.
He’s doing it right now… selling e-books.
Hi Bob- I read Greg’s comment and tried to figure out how he could possibly come up with the conclusion that he did. The first thing I noticed is that he has no idea at all about 5-6 loans- they are actually for 60 days so that the interest is 10% per month- not per week.
So how did he figure out you must be something illegal? All I could thing of is that with earnings of 20,000 USD per month [ I assume the $ sign is for usd not and some other kind of dollars] you made almost one million pesos that month, which to some could only be possible through illegal means! lol Obviously he doesnt believe how profitable the right businesses can be .
Greg should make himself aware of the laws of libel and slander before he goes making accusations about people doing criminal business and thus being criminals !!
Hi ian – Yeah, I can’t figure out how he came to that conclusion either. My guess is that either he is some kind of competitor who doesn’t want me to sell any books, or that he is just trying to mess with me. Anyway, no big deal to me, because I think that my readers know that I would not be pushing anything illegal. I think my reputation is better than that.
And… yes, the $ signs are indeed in US Dollars.
Hi Ian
Now I am really confused. If I borrow $5 and repay $6 after 60 days… ah, ok, I get it – 20% in 60 days equals 10% per month. Well, that’s ok then. Only an annual rate of (approx.) 300% if they can’t repay the loan for a year.
I was a bit shocked to learn about this practice which I gather is quite common. I guess the loan sharks lose some when people can’t or won’t pay and therefore charge 300% p.a. to compensate for this risk. I heard of one Indian guy near Tulunan who tried it and as I recall, things did not end well… I would love to hear more on this subject.
Dave
I just want to make it clear that regardless of the discussion, my book has nothing to do with 5-6 lending. The practice is not in the book, nor is there anything even remotely similar.
Dave- lets see now- you figure …….. 10% x 12 = 300%
You definitely need to invest in a new calculator !
It’s government math…
Both Ian and Dale must have gone to government run schools ..
If you start with $100 and roll it 6 times at 20% interest you get $298.60
apparently you don’t know the “rule of 72″ ..
Do the math kiddies before you run your mouth.
I have a copy of the book, nothing illegal in there – and definitely no 5/6 businesses in there either. Just 49 rather easy ideas to implement that in sole or in combination just might make you some extra income. It’s like anything else, you’ll get out of it what you put in – and what you expect.
“Whether you think you can or can’t, you’re right” – Henry Ford
Bob,
First I have to say I haven’t read your book personally but have a friend here in Aklan that has and has mentioned on numerous occasions that you have a copy cat methods of Filipino businesses and or Indian businesses. and then a whole lot more internet generated money making schemes that are advertised also on the net as get rich quick SCAMS.
So as I like to read, I like to also find ways to generate some kind of income as I too am in my early 40′s. and I have also been in the Philippines since 2002. So I know closely the culture and mingle well.
Do you have any money back offers if what I have heard about your book is the truth or I am not satisfied? 40-50 bucks is peanuts, But if I am going to through 50 bucks away I would rather through it towards the 5 children I sponsor for their schooling needs.
Just let me know Bob.
Hi Dev – Yes, it is obvious that you have not read the book, and I don’t think your friend has either, because what he says is pure BS. The ideas in the book are things that I have done myself – no scams, no copies of other people’s ideas. Indian? The popular Indian business here is money lending, which is something I am against? Copies of Filipino businesses? Ha ha… that’s actually funny.
Yes, I offer a 30 day money back guarantee. If the book was so bad… why didn’t your friend get the refund? I have been selling this book for 3 1/2 years with a money back guarantee. So far, I have not been asked for a refund.
It is my opinion that there are very few truly original new ideas in doing business, but what actually happens is that people come up with new variations on already established and tried and true methods. That to me does NOT qualify as a copy cat idea, but rather as creative thinking . And that is how things progress in just about every facet of life. Of course there are occasionally truly earth shattering new ideas- when then are further explored and developed over time.
As to the book- which i admit i have not read- just because it might [ as suggested] contain variations of other successful ideas does not for one moment lessen its validity- nor its usefulness. Almost none of my texts in university contained new ideas- just explanations and applications of old ones.
Thanks, ian. You are right. And, I don’t think I’ve ever said or implied that the 49 suggestions I have made in the book are totally unique. But, what makes the ideas unique in a way is that these are my ideas through experience of living in the Philippines, and how to earn money while in the Philippines. A lot of people have told me over the years that it is not possible to make money here in the Philippines. I know that is wrong because I do it every day. I don’t have any source of income except for the money I earn here in the Philippines. It is those ideas that I share in the book, and things that I’ve actually done.
i am from Europe and have been living and working in own businesses in this country for 20 years now and it has been very good. We reached good efficiency and consistency. Our staff are happy. It is a rarity though to come and meet a foreigner-alike who s willing to sleeve up, to sweat, to indulge, to understand, to adapt, to learn the language, to stand behind,….all prerequisites i would think essential to run a business, anywhere in this world. If vacationing is the incentive, why think otherwise?
Hi Peter – Owning a business of your own is hard work! I know, because I own a number of businesses. Ever since I first became self-employed, almost 20 years ago, I have found that my boss that I am working for is much tougher than any other boss I’ve had in my life. That’s right, me. You are right, you have to roll up your sleeves, sweat, give up things that you want to do, etc. to make your own business work. In the end, though, it is all worth the effort.
hi bob i’m filipino and i live here in the philippines i’m just 19 and have no daily income,,can the book help a 19 year old start his own money making empire without big capitals involved?
much respect,
Tan from cagayan de oro city
Hi Tan – In my life as an entrepreneur, I have started nearly all of the businesses I am involved in with $100 or less. There are a couple of exceptions, and those that required more money are not even open still! A lot of business that cost me $100 or less are still very active, and making very nice money. If you can put your hands on P5,000 or so for capital to get yourself started, and you have the ability to think outside the box, or different from the norm, then I believe that the book can offer you some really good ideas and advice on how to think to start making money.
Good luck to you!
Bob, If I were you I would send Tan a free copy of the book and maybe partner with this young gentleman. We could get Tan’s input as to the credibility of the book and you could find a valuable young partner.
Interesting idea.
Bob
Not questioning the amounts in the 2 above pictures, but I do have some questions.
1. Why the deposit of the large amount, followed by the immediate withdrawal?
2. You state your average income is $12,000. Is this 100% profit? You can have large income, but if you have large expense, your profit could be quite small.
Not trying to put you on the spot, but just curious about how the article is worded.
I assume most of your income is selling items through your various websites, so you must have a high overhead in purchasing the items to resell and deliver.
Thanks in advance.
Hi Lloyd – These days, the majority of my income comes from selling advertising on my various websites and selling my various e-books and white papers. It costs me nothing but my time to produce the content on those products. My only real out of pocket expense is for these items is to pay for web hosting. Because of my large number of websites, my web hosting bill is more than most people, I pay about $75 per month for hosting. So, not, it’s not 100% profit… but it is getting closer to that!
In regards to your other question about immediate withdrawal…. that bank account is where funds are deposited from my credit card processor. I do not choose to keep my money long term in that account, though, because it earns nothing. So, pretty quickly, I take out what money I need to live on, and put the rest elsewhere.
Hello,
I had the same thought that Lloyd did and I appreciate you answering him. I’m a skeptical person and was wondering if you could show statements of your other accounts with the deposits.
Thank you,
Laura
Hi Laura – I believe that what I have shown is already enough. In addition to showing some bank statements, I also have many websites where you can judge my level of knowledge and my writing style. Additionally, I offer a 30 day money back guarantee, I see no way you can lose.
As long as everyone else is asking, can I get your credit card numbers? LOL
I’m gonna order it, what’s the gripe, if you don’t like it return it in 30 days.
Thanks for your purchase, Rick. I hope you find the book useful.
Hi, Bob.
I have been sitting and contemplating getting this e-book of yours for a good few months now. I know bits and pieces but obviously haven’t got anywhere which means I am not doing what I am supposed to be doing. The question I have though is. Those ideas in the book, I understand have been effective—but is that for this ere/times? Which means if I do purchase this will it be applicable for the now and the few months down the track, or has the industry changed?
Hi JC – Everything in the book is a current idea that would work today. If anything was outdated, I would take it out of the book and replace it with something else.
Thanks Bob, I shall look into that sometime in a month or two. The remaining credit I have on my credit card is being used for a venture, which requires a lot of effort—but can also be a possibility of my exit to being on the borderline of erm… hmm.. street life and into a better position but will take about 1 year or so to materialize…
Good luck on your current venture, JC.
Hi Bob, I am close to retirement (Whatever that is supposed to be) & have had varying degrees of success being self employed in Canada. Changing technology & introduction of the internet being the biggest factors causing distress in my case. By coincidence I am visiting Davao City & Samal Island later this year with the intent of seeing if it is where I want to (retire.) For me retirement is operating a fun Business that I actually look forward to running so I don’t sit around slowly deteriating into senility. Making a large income would be secondary but I would like to at least not go backwards. I would get more satisfaction out of seeing the smiles on the locals faces if I was able to improve their lives.
One of my concerns is the differences in culture & values between westerners & filipinos & how that might be an obstacle to smooth relations not only in Business but in personal interactions as well. I am hoping to operate a small cruise business going throughout the islands in the area. In your opinion is this a viable idea? If not I have others ha ha Thanks, Glen
Hi Daytriker Glen – To be honest, I don’t think that the cruise thing is very viable. Fistly, foreigners are legally barred from the transportation business, so that is a big strike. You did not say if you are married to a Filipina, but if you are, she could own it. You could not work in the business legally, though. If you are worried about cultural differences, try to find a business where you deal with people outside the Philippines, that is how my businesses are.
Good luck in your search, Glen.
Hi Bob,
Your book was the reason I found your site (it popped up on Google search) and I became addicted to LIP eversince. Although I have an idea on how to earn from the internet (e.g. paid-to-click ads, blogging etc) it does not sum up to the amount you showed, that’s why I’m really contemplating of buying your book.
Incidentally, does anyone here has a torrent of Bob’s e-books? Lol…..joke:)
Hi jonathan – Really? Wow, I didn’t realize that is how you find me. Well, the methods that you list for making money on the net are only small time stuff, my friend.
Yeah Bob and I agree compared to your stuff mine is teeny, weeny, minute, small time lol
Ha ha… sorry, if that is the way you interpreted what I said, but that is not what I meant. I mean, you said that the ways of making money online are from ad clicks and blogging. In my experience, those are very small earners for me, there are other money making methods that are much better. I certainly didn’t mean to imply that your ventures were small.
Hi Bob,
I came across your website whilst scouring the net looking for ideas for businesses in the Philippines. I am still a baby in the Philippines as I have only been here 7 months. However, I have started, ran and made a success of more than 3 businesses in my life and in 3 separate countries. I can’t think of a business you could start any where, unless internet related, for $100. I hope your ideas are not geared around drop shipping etc. It seems that you make most of your money selling your e books on the internet and selling advertising on your sites. Your website is very high in google rankings which means somebody knows something clever. Hmmm, I’m actually sounding much more sceptical than I set out to be, sorry for that. Anyway, you’re obviously doing well out of it so good luck to you.
Regards,Steve
Hi Steve – Most of your assumptions are incorrect, to be honest. For example, I am very much against drop shipping, because I do not put my reputation in other people’s hands, and if I trust somebody else to ship something I sold, they have control of my reputation. I would never even think of doing that.
I make money off e-books, but nowhere near “most of my money” as you suggest.
Anyway, the ideas in this book are realistic honest things that I have done, or known others that have done it.
Good luck to you.
I work in the medical field. I am looking at being comped off due to a bad back and neck and neurological damage. I can teach the skills in my field and am considered a professional Nurse as well. I also sail a boat and love marine life. Do I seem to have any marketable skills for life in the Phillipines! I know quite a bit about fish farming too as well as basic agricultural skills.I build houses, did stone work, electrical work driveways and some framing carpentry.I can configure most types of networks and rpair almost anything that has an armature!. I work with a few Filipino’s and Filipina’s. They were more fun than any white fan of Freddy Aglukar deserves to have when at work!
Hello Pinoy Seeker! LOL – Is that your real name? If so, it’s certainly a unique one. You may note that the wording under the comment box specifically requests that commenters use their real name.
Sure, it sounds like you have skills that you can use – directly or indirectly – to live a decent life in the Philippines. It’s all about finding the proper niche and how to use it to legally amke money in the Philippines.
Good luck to you.
Hi again Bob,
I have just read the ‘about Bob’ section. An ‘Internet Entrepreneur’ with over 100 websites. That accounts for quite a lot.
Cheers,
Steve
Hey Bob,
Heres as a question for you.. Can your book ideas work for someone who is in the U.S. but wants to start something in the philippines before committing to move there to live.. As i am a young 25 and married to a filipina i would love to live there at some point in my life, but as a veteran and american i also love my own Country so committing to being there 100 % and running stuff i cant make that commitment just yet in my life. Looking forward to your answer.
Hi Stephen – These ideas in the book can be used anywhere in the world, most of them anyway. Yes, you can start it while still in the States, and then move. No problems.
Hi bob,
I’m married to my beautiful filipina wife of 6 years now and we have just returned from visiting the family, we actually are looking at buying a house in Mindanao for the future to live there and also live in australia, but we need to have the income so we could live this lifestyle, thats why I’m interested in your book . We are not looking for get rich schemes over night but we understand that we need to have a proper income to live ther and to be able to travel back and forth to Australia in retirement.
Could you tell me more about the online business? is it set out a move by move instruction ? what I mean is it follow this in this order and you will have success.
Thanks
Ross
Hi Ross – The book is 49 ideas of ways to make a living in the Philippines. It gives a general overview of what you can do with each of the ideas, but certainly not a step by step guide to setting it up. If you come up with a business, though, and need assistance in setting everything up, I would be happy to consult with you on the process.
When you say “could you tell me more about the online business”… well.. there are about 30 different online businesses listed in the book. It’s up to you to choose which one is right for you.
There are no “get rich schemes” in the book, only 49 legitimate ways that you can work to earn the money you need in the Philippines.
Hi guys, Freeman here from Los Banos, Laguna. Yes, I believe there are many legal and morally acceptable ways to make a living here. I’m a former farmer/rancher/truckdriver from the US and have been taking agriculture based courses here at UPLB for a year now and have made some good friends and contacts (ie: ag professors, successful “out of the box thinking” farmers and entrepreneur’s involved in both agriculture and aquaculture. I chose this route for various reasons including my love of farming & fishing and because I wish to be part of the solution of environmentally sound food production systems. People can do without a lot of things, but we do need to eat and all food production should be done in a sustainable, responsible manner. Our farm is still in the planning stages, but based on current economic trends and socioeconomic data, we should see a very attractive ROI after the first 6-12 months (60-120%) and experience incremental sustainable returns thereafter. I realize farming isn’t for everyone, but I thought I would add a little food for thought so to speak. Good luck to all, and wishing you health and prosperity for the future. Freeman
If you are in the Philippines, why is the deposit slips in US Dollars?? I am a US Citizen and I live here….. and first off, it is illegal for you to run a business here, do business here, own a business here, make money from a business here, run a business from here. And, PI money cant leave the country anyways. This book is sight unseen, why not post one or two of those money making ideas, and prove what this is. I mean, I got a car for sale here, you want to buy it, you cant see it, its a great car, take my word for it….would you buy it , sight unseen?
RD – I did not show any “deposit slips,” I showed bank statements. They are in US Dollars because they are the statements in my US Bank accounts in the United States. I live in the Philippines, but I maintain several bank accounts in the US.
My business it totally legal. It is a US business, all of my servers are in the USA, all money changes hands in the USA through a US based server.
If you need a sample of my writing, this website contains more than 2,000 articles and should give you a good idea of my writing style, and whether I am on the level or not.
Good luck to you.
Bob, must have been hard for you to reply to that lol, thats the bad side of the internet, you have to deal with with people who have a different character when talking online.
@RD MCcauley, sounds like your very jelous. Im 26 and been living in the Philippines since 2005 when i was 21 (same year i started my first online business) your qouting that it is illegal to do business here. Who told you that? That is so far from the truth i cannot be even bothered to go into the countless ways foreigners are legally allowed to do business here. You better start studying abit more. More importantly, nobody cares as long as your bringing money into the country or stimulating the economy or hiring locals. Some laws you take with a pinch of salt.
I also noticed when people cannot do something themselves, they get jelous and think it must be a trick. Personally i was earning the exact same amounts for two years, 2007 & 2008, about $15,000 – $20,000 from online revenue with about 70% of that being profit, other years especially after that have not been anywhere near that, hence why im now searching for new ventures. But do realise, earnings online have huge potential. I know 2 young americans here in manila (ortigas) who are just travelling around asia (now in manila for a year or 2) who run about 10 online websites/businesses. So mr RD, if your so sincerely skeptical as you appear to be, then its probably better you dont buy it in the first place and move on.
Thats $15,000 – $20,000 per month i was earning, not per year.
Can you state the kind of business you doing on line Kris? I’m getting into smartliving formally SMCorp.
I need find something to do on line now so I’ll be established once I get to the Philippines in Cavite City area as thats where I will be living with my lady. Our plan is too marry as soon as we can, have been told it takes 3 months before we can be married, how true that is I don’t know.
I’ve been supporting my lady and our three kids, since their true father doesn’t support them at all.
Sincerely:
Robert and Charito & family
Hi Kris – Thanks for your support, and good luck in finding the replacement ventures that you are looking for!
My wife is Filipina and has a dual citizenship and we are going to move to the Philippines. We are buying your book so we have some idea what we want to do. My question is, can she legally have a business in the Philippines and is she by U.S. law required to pay U.S. Federal income tax that her business makes?
Thanks and have a wonderful day
Hello L – Since your wife is a dual citizen, and I assume you are too, yes, you are both required to pay US taxes. However, keep in mind that there is an exemption for the first $90k or so if you are living outside the country, and do not return. There are stipulations, and I am neither an attorney nor a cpa, so I will not go deeper into that.
Good luck to you, and I hope you find the book useful.
I’ve been living outside the US for 20 years, 5 of them in the PI. I believe the $90,000 ceiling is on income earned outside of the US. if you earn money in the US, you expose yourself to US taxes on ALL income regardless of source. Again, I’m not positive but this is how my US accountant explained it to me 20 years ago. I have avoided earning in the US since.
Exactly, Doc, the ~$90k exemption is for foreign earned income.
There is one other thing I had forgotten because it is not an issue for me. If you spend more than 30 days in one calendar year in the US, you must pay tax in the US on all income regardless of source. Effectively, the US considers you resident in the US for tax purposes.
Bob,
One of my reluctance of getting the e-book is not only parting with my $50.00. But also because we and few others in this comment areas have somewhat expressed that we’re not really sure what we are getting for our money.
As you know I am very much interested in getting this e-book not only for myself to conduct online money maker but I also have a family over at Surigao.
Could I ask what satisfied book buyers you got? I noticed there is also a 100% guarantee return if we don’t like the book or if it is not for us. How would one return the book if it’s not for them. Considering this is an e-book.
Hi JC – This site has more than 2,000 articles on it that I have written. These 2,000+ articles should indicate to you the style of writing that you will be getting in my e-book. If you feel that my articles on this site have insight and are well written, then you should expect similar quality writing in the book. If you feel my articles here are not worth much… well, then the book probably would not be worth much in your eyes as well.
I have been earning a living online for about 15 years now, and I feel that I have the expertise to share with you.
As you said, there is a 100% money back guarantee. If you feel the book is not good, just say the word and I will refund your money. So far, to date… I have sold several thousand books and have not issued any refunds.
Hi Bob we met on one occasion a few years back. I’ve been in Davao for almost six years and enjoy my life here. I have been spending quite a bit of my time working with my wife with a educational scholarship scheme for the children of detainees at the City Jail and it is growing in leaps and bounds. It is satisfying work.
However, the main point of this email is to ask if you are interested in disseminating a service we offer related to divorce (as opposed to annulment) in the Philippines?
Many retired foreigners meet Filipinas online and often seek to marry them. Unfortunately, many of these women are already married, albeit separated from their husbands. Most have never applied for an annulment due to the high costs involved. Finding a foreigner to fund an annulment is an alternative option and that is where our skills and knowledge are useful.
An annulment can take between one and three years to process without any guarantee of a successful outcome. The costs involved can amount to over 300,000 pesos. The women is likely to be directed by the court to undergo a series of psychiatric examination’s at substantial additional costs. Our system takes 3 months and is 100% legal and fully complies with the Philippines Code of Family Law. We process an average of two divorces each month.
We currently have three online groups who promote our services for which a referral or introduction fee is paid. Maybe you would be interested in including our services in one of your sites as a source of additional income?
Regards
Paul
I would really like to know more about this service. Any chance of getting an email about it?
Jeff
What would you like to know, Jeff? If I can help you, I’d be glad to do so, but I need to know what your questions are.
They are claiming it can be done in 3 months. Who do we contact? Where do we start? Is this an actually divorce or annulment? I have a lot of questions. those are the few Ill post here.
Jeff
Hi Jeff – I would avoid the scheme. I know a little about it, and personally I do not feel it is on the “up an up,” if you know what I mean.
Damn. Sorry for that. Its beginning to get a little frustrating. Thank you though for your time. Im still interested in your book though, was going o get it this week i think, if I do buy the book do you mind if I share with her, she is needing a little extra income over there since her husband has decided not to send her any more money for there daughters school? I want it so i can maybe make a little extra to sit aside for taking trips.
Jeff
Hi Jeff – Sure, no problem if you purchase the book and share with your girlfriend. No problm with that at all.
Jeff i would like to know more about getting divorce ive met a few ladies and they all want annulment but they say it cost a lot can you get back to me about the cost.
Good to know someone making a very decent income while in the Philippines.
I’m a local but I left about 15 years ago. Currently employed in the health care industry (but I ain’t having fun anymore — liberals are out of control).
I’m getting out of the rat race and head back to my homeland.
I’d like to keep my US citizenship though, perhaps apply for dual.
So my question is about tax obligations.
Do you pay taxes to both Philippines and US?
Are you entitled to deductions allowed for income earned outside US?
It’s funny that I don’t know how the taxation works for businesses in the Philippines.
Care to share some info?
Hopefully I’ll catch you personally when I come home… being your own boss maybe you’ll find time to share a bottle of San Miguel, sinugba and kinilaw with me and other bloggers down south.
JJ:>)
Thanks.
Hi Jesse – For US taxes, if you live abroad and do not return to the USA, you can get a tax exemption for the first $90k or so in earnings. I am not an attorney or CPA, though, so you should consult somebody who knows more than I do. Good luck on your move, I hope all goes well for you!
Hello Bob,
Interesting websites. Found you while looking for a cool, quiet place to live in Mindanao and a “Roadtrip to Wao”.
You have your fingers in more pies than I can count. How do you keep it all straight?
Your book looks like a possibility to make $ on the internet.
$20,000/mo? Maybe after 10 years work.
I’m looking for $2-3,000/mo after a year or so. Feasible if I work 50 hrs a week?
My questions are how to find out about rentals and internet access in various areas, as well as safety for an easy going non religious person.
I’ve looked at Marawi, Malaybalay, Bumburan, Valencia ( wifi hotspots so yes), etc but data can be hard to come by.
All the best to you, Feyma and the boys.
Rich S.
Hi Rich – To make $2-3k per month certainly should not take 50 hours of work per week! You will have to work hard to get it going, but I should think you can make that amount with 20 hours or less of work per week.
You’re considering Marawi? Are you serious? I’ve been to Marawi a number of times, and I like it… but I would never consider living there… it’s far too dangerous for that, IMHO. Valencia? Malaybalay? Certainly on the list. Marawi, though… well… I think you had better reconsider.
Thanks for the info Bob.
I was thinking of 50 hrs/week to start and then tapering off over time.
In my former businesses I found that start up takes more time than maintainance.
Thanks for the info about Marawi. I had heard it was dangerous unless you were Muslim, but there is so much bad information around I wanted to get it from someone who has lived in Mindanao for a while. I’ll buy your book and get to work from here, (on top of a mountain in Mexico) then plan my move to Malaybalay/Valencia in a year or so.
Hi Rich – In places like Marawi, safety is not an issue of what your religion is. If your skin is white they will kidnap you whether you are Muslim, Christian or any other religion. It’s all about money, not religion.
Good luck on your potential move! I hope it works out wonderfully for you.
Ah, money…..the oldest religion. Thanks. No response needed.
Bob,
Is your book available in any local bookstore in Davao? I am interested. I hope you can give discount price for the locals.
BTW, I am teaching at University of Mindanao, Davao City.
Randy
Hi Randy – The book is an electronic book. When purchased online it can be downloaded instantly. Since you are local, if you prefer to buy it “offline” I can meet you somewhere with the book on a CD for you, just let me know. We’ll talk privately about any possible discount for locals. You can contact me via the “Contact Us” link at the top of this page, or my cell number is (0915) 216-0300. Take care.
hi bob,
there’s a mall locator at SM megamall (4th flr) that prints books on demand (forgot the name right now, but they’re a publishing outfit).
might be another option for those who’d like to get your book in paper form. they and the participating authors earn from every copy ordered.
cheers,
Thanks for the heads up, Doc.

Hello mr.vijay – Well, it’s important to keep in mind that as a foreigner you cannot legally own a business in the Philippines, so you will need to partner with somebody who is a Philippine Citizen. My book will give you ideas of businesses that can help you succeed in the Philippines, stuff that you can do to succeed.
@Ian:
Compounding…
1.1 x 1.1 x 1.1 x 1.1 x 1.1 x 1.1 x 1.1 x 1.1 x 1.1 x 1.1 x 1.1 x 1.1 = 3.138
…is close to 314% actually!

Dave- lets see now- you figure …….. 10% x 12 = 300%
You definitely need to invest in a new calculator !
I have read all the negative comments posted about buying the book, “49 ways to make a living in the Philippines” and I am wondering why these people are even thinking about buying the book. To be a self employed person, you must be able to take risks. If they have this much negative thoughts about buying the book for only $49, then they wouldn’t take the risk to invest money into an ideal in the book. I have been self employed all my life and I know what it takes to work on your own and all the risks I have taken all my life. Any business is a gamble and I think buying something that is helpful in the beginning is an asset to your new adventure. I am going to buy the book, since I am moving to Davao before the end of this year and I sure would welcome some local knowledge on how to make money there. Just my thoughts and opinion on this subject.
Art
Thanks for your support art. Yeah, there are a few naysayers, but I just blow them off. I sell a lot of this particular book, and I get a lot of positive feedback from those who buy it, so a few critics is of little concern!
Thanks again.
Hey Bob, I am afraid some of the negative comments are a sign of the times we live in,
its easier to be negative and shortsighted… Hard work and taking a chance is a thing of
past in America… Everyone these days want over night success, Reality TV has people
thinking they can be wealthy without hard work and commitment. Continued success.
Thank you Glen. Truth is, I have sold thousands of this book, I offer a no questions asked refund, and I have only given one refund! I consider that a pretty good record.
Thanks for your kind words, and good luck to you.
Hi Bob,
Just a note to all the negative comments on here.
I am originally from UK and just over 2 years ago I was really running out of money here in Philippines and the only ebook that I ever bought was Bob’s “49 ways to make a living in Philippines”.
Although to date I am not making $20000/month I am making a really decent living. I own one property and rent another for my business-all online related.
No ebook on the internet is ever going to make you money, you can buy everything available and still be a failure. It comes down to hard word and never giving up.
The first job I ever got was on one of the freelance sites and I got paid $10 and it took me 3 &#%$@* days. People were laughing at me, however I realized right then that it was possible to make money sitting on my butt all day.
I took some of Bob’s ideas and ran with a few. Some worked for me, some didn’t but every day I continued to learn and increase my knowledge and work my butt off.
For me the most important thing is that I am able to stay at home with my, now 2 1/2 year old son and don’t have to become a OFW leaving my family behind and working in crappy conditions for crappy money.
The only people that are complaining about anything here are the lazy ones who can’t be bothered to work hard at something to achieve it. Don’t buy Bobs book it you don’t want to, continue to procrastinate and work for a pathetic minimum wage here in Philippines. Or get off your lazy butt and do something about it, cause if you don’t you will still be moaning in ten years that you don’t have any money while the rest of us will be reaping what we sowed.
Life is full of choices, the sooner you start making the right ones, the quicker your life will improve.
Cheers,
Tom
Hi Tom – I am so glad to hear about your experience after purchasing my book. You are so right that no eBook is going to earn you money.. the book can only tell you what work you will have to do to make money. And, to make money online, you really do have to work for it! After you get yourself established, then you won’t have to work nearly as hard, but you still have to work.
Congratulations on getting your start, and making money online!
Hi Tom,
With your comment, I presume you’re a Pinoy? If it’s okay with you can you share what particular type of Bob’s idea has worked for you in the PH? I’m an OFW and have been reading Bob’s LIP site for almost a year now and with the employment situation here in the Mid-East getting worst I would really appreciate your input on this before I finally decide to buy his book and come home. Thanks kabayan!
Hi Bob. Rather than download the book I would like to buy the cd. How much is that? I don’t have a printer at this time…………
Hi Charley – I don’t normally sell the book on CD, but if that is what you need, I’ll do it for you. Add $5 for the cost of postage, and that will cover it. But… just to make sure we are talking about the same thing.. if it is on CD or downloaded, it is exactly the same thing. One file would be on a CD, the other would put the file on your hard drive. 6 of one.. half a dozen of the other!
Good evening Bob it is nice to know that you are in-love with the Philippines and she is treating you nicely. I am very interested to get your book but I am a lazy reader. I am right now an OFW and want to have a small piece of land plant veggies have a fish pond. simple dream. But I will have children so I need to have money to support them. Do yo do some coaching or something of that nature? Thanks More power
Hi Kyle – Indeed, I do coaching/consulting. You can learn about what I have to offer and my rates on my Services Page, right at the top of the page under “Consulting”.
hi there i am kev trom the uk . it seems to me that the best way for me to earn money in the phillipines is to come work for you
yo mindanao bob , I am an average man living here in PI , and im a hundred % pinoy , i want to earn in here and quit my call center job , im 31y/o and I want to earn will you help me without buying your book ? come on mate i’ll help you also in return
Hello D – I can do a barter deal with you. What can you do for me if I give you my book for free?
This is so funny. it made me laugh.
Glad you enjoyed it, james!
Hi Bob,
With almost 100 million people in the internet certainly when attracted to your book and bought the e-book you will become rich. Filipinos alone are almost 99 million population plus the expats and connections with Filipinos, your websites will draw million visits a day. I don’t feel it is impossible to earn that big. Keep up the good job. I also have plenty of ideas doing business in the Philippines. I can suggest it to you or work the idea for you, if you like.
Hi Enrico – Thanks for offering the suggestion! However, I would recommend that you should use your own idea to make money for yourself! That’s the way to go, I think! Have a great day.
Hi Bob,
Thanks for connecting me. I am currently employed in Makati City as a Civil Engineer, But looking for the right timing and soon to move out of the rat race. As a matter of fact I did some career upgrade and took the Real Estate Brokers Exam and glad to say I passed the exam above passing grade. Yes, I may be misinterpreted that I am asking favor from you, but I’m not. It is just a thought of my own way of sharing some business ideas. Since, I am fascinated with your tacks and I know you earned this in a hard way. Internet contains treasure trove of business ideas but not all works with everyone. Simple business for simple people, and other entrepreneurial matters. My interest of course is focus on real estate development and I am looking to this opportunity in no longer a time. My target place is Malay Aklan for low cost and medium cost housing.
Gob bless and may your business ideas help many Filipinos and expats here in the Philippines. I salute you Sir for being a positive thinker.
Thank you very much, Enrico, for your kind words! Good luck to you on your Real Estate Venture in Aklan. Perhaps you might want to connect with my wife, she does real estate promotion here on our site. You can find her through the contact form here.
Hello Bob,
If I get the book and download it can I save it to my documents to use to get me going in a business or is this a download then read and thats it. I want to get the book, being on unemployment sucks but atleast the wife still has work. We want to move to Davao, she’s from there we like it and I was NEVER so happy or relaxed since then. The amount $49 is high, but its all about IF YOU REALLY WANT too. You can buy a pair of jeans here for that or learn some ways to make money so I can live where I want. I love the states, but the politics and debt and people I’m sick of. I miss the smiles, except that guy on the jeepney that 1 time and his dirty look. Thanks for the help Bob
Hi BrianW – When you download the book, it’s yours forever! Just save it to your hard drive, or wherever else you want it, and you can refer back to it any time in the future!
Good luck to you, I hope all works out well for you and your wife!
hello Bob,
I am a filipina and my fiance is south african citizenship but his living and legally residence now in brazil , we are planning to move in philippines , and he wanted to buy some properties and open a business does he can own this property 100% ? what do we need to do can you please help us.
thank you looking forward to hear from you.

Hi Bob,
I’ve read the article and the comments that people posted. It does seem legitimate enough. My question, though, is will this be applicable to me? I’m 21 years old and I’m working my first full-time job. I want to be able to plan for my future as early as now so I’m looking for every possible ‘additional’ jobs or income. Does your book have anything that might help me with this? I do hope it’s not one of those networking schemes because nowadays everyone’s doing it so much that it’s becoming impractical. Of course I know it’s not easy or fast process, but I think starting at this age could give me an advantageous head-start.
Hoping to hear from you.
Hi Ivan – I see no reason why the ideas would not apply to you. Most of the things in the book can be done very inexpensively. A man with time can do any of this. Good luck to you.
Afternoon Bob!
I was reading along with all the comments because I was actually initially just trying to find out what the requirements of retireing and owning a business in the Philippines were. Well I stumbled into this page after about 5 minutes so good job at making your sites so accessable! I got about half way through all the comments and had only seen one comment so far that even brushes with technical skills as a form of work there in Phils. I do enjoy computers but I could never work on them as a source of income. My main concern is about the possibility of being able to start and run a metalurgy business (yes I am married to a Filipina so I guess she would own it) so my realy question is if there is routes for technical jobs within your book? $49 is really cheap but I just figured it would save us both a hassle if I asked first.
Keep up the good work!
Hi Christopher – I really don’t have anything in the book in the area of metallurgy.
Hello Bob, my name is Daniel and I have visited Gensan 4 times in all. I am coming again in Jan/Feb to get married and will be looking to start some business’s over there. I am considering a piggery, an internet cafe and I know Burt the dutch fellow that lives in Fatima and owns the Blue Ice resto-bar, so I think I need to order your book. I also see you own WOWGensan. So I am assuming this is where you live? I am concerned about moving to General Santos, Due to the massacre at Maguindanao and the bombing a few years back at the KCC mall. I don’t want to drag my lady away from her family although she insists she wants only to be with me where ever I decide we should live, bless her heart.
What are your feelings on living in Gensan? Is it safe? last time I was there I wanted to ride up to Gumasa beach near Glan, but was told there are rebels in the area on the way there, so I did not go?
Hello Daniel – I lived in GenSan from 2000 until 2002. We have lived in Davao since then. I own “Wow” sites for locations all over the Philippines and also WowPhilippines as well. The truth is that we moved from GenSan mostly because of safety issues. It is a lot safer now, though than compared to before. I would have no issues living there today, except that is a very provincial city and I would personally feel bored there. Davao is a lot more cosmopolitan and there is a lot to do here. Don’t worry about GenSan based on what goes on in Maguindanao, that is far from GenSan and really has no impact on the city.
Good luck on your potential move, and I wish you the best with whatever type of business you do there.
Hi Bob,
Good to hear that your enjoying your stay in the Philippines.
I’am currently working in a callcenter here in manila. Even though I’ve been working my ass off and trying to make the ends meet. It still not enough. Me and my wife also has a small online business http://www.onlinekikaystore.com which I coded the page myself (proud lol) but I still can’t set aside a $50 for your ebook.
I really want to learn from you and your ebook and the only way I can think of is to offer my services, maybe create a website, edit, or redesign a website for you or anything that you need taken care of, I’ll do it in replacement of the ebook.
I know you’ve been getting this a lot. But what the hell, I’ll give it a shot. lol.
It amazes me to this day that people can go online and state with such conviction things that they quite clearly have not researched and is in correct or is just complete nonscence…
- you can own a business and opperate in the Phils if you are an expat, there are limitations on this but it can be done! do you realy think there would be soo many resorts in the Phils if expats couldnt run a business? you just have to know how to do it.
- You can own property and land, yes you need to be married to a filipina but you will be on the title, and things would get tricky if she died before you, but ! things are about to change in this area. the best bet is to own an apartment which can be yours alone as long as the building is at least 60% philo owned.
- You can even send money overseas, again you just have to know how to do it!
The biggest thing to remember in the Philippines! if you are not very street smart then you will get taken for a ride….. so do your homework. part of your home work would be buy a book like Bob’s, you may not follow what he has to say but you might learn how to be more savy and know more about how to deal with filipinos, dont get me wrong 90% of filipinos are wonderful people, I love the country and already have my retirement home built, BUT BE WARY !
I will be buying this book as you can never know too much, someone will always show you something you didnt know.
And remember the world is full of those that will shoot you down and put a negitive spin on things they have never and will never try. as someone else here said it is easy to be negitive and do nothing.
HMMMMMMMM! maybe I should write a book too………..
hahah i was taking only a quick look at your pictures of the bank account and though oh nice 20000 pesos a month is great for living here. How can i achieve this??? Then I realized its actually Dollars! LOL! 20000 Dollars a month to make a living in philippines? You exaggerated a little huh?
Those are actual photos of my bank statements. No exaggeration at all. 100% earned while living in the Philippines.
Hi, Bob
I have enjoyed reading your various sites and am planning to move to the Philippines and living off my online income.
$75 a month for webhosting thats one hell of a lot of hosting, i hate to make assumptions so i will speak from experience, web domain hosting costs between 6-10 dollars per month for unlimited domains and bandwidth, most internet marketers do not like to host too many domains on the same server, personally i would only have a max of 5 with one hosting service.
From your webhosting costs i would hazard a guess that you are probably selling either physical/or digital products via affiliate links on your own domains but as i said its just a guess because 75 bucks a month gets you between 30-60 domains hosted, 200 bucks a month on affiliate sales is achievable per site that would come out somewhere around your average of 12k pm.
While i have no reason to doubt your claims about money earned through your online marketing endeavours all i can say is that you must be some kind of IM guru.
In my experience its not always wise to make such bold claims about income especially when your involved in IM ,whilst it can seem like a good way to convince your audience to purchase your books it can alienate a lot of potential clients due to that old saying “if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is”.
Wishing you continued success
Hello Nick – Thanks for stopping by. Sorry to say, but most of your assumptions about my business are inaccurate. I do very little affiliate marketing at all… close to zero. I make my money by selling my own products and through accepting advertising on my websites.
Good luck to you.
Hi there,
How much does your book cost and how can I purchase it? It probably says somewhere here on the site but long day, am tired. Haha
Can you please fill me in briefly with my question.
Regards,
Shannon
Hello Shannon – The book is US$49. You can order it right from this webpage and download it immediately after payment.
Hi Bob, you can email me reasons why i need your help with your personal advise one on one, i want to start right now but i would like to meet, i stay in pampanga philippines.

Hi BNESS – I suspect that you are being facetious, but if you are serious, sure.. I can come up to Pampanga, but will be on your dime, not mine. I charge $100/hour for consulting, and all of my travel costs. Let me know….

Hi Bob.
Just read this whole blog from top to bottom, very interesting.
Although there are some sceptics, those are only people with no imagination or drive to better themselves, maybe just plain lazy,LOL
I’m intenting to move/retire over there within a year or 2, already have my asawa and babae in Mactan, helped her start a Sari2 store but that is not making enough money for her to be self sufficient. So, question is, after I get your book, is it possible for me to start a business of choice (from ideas of your book) here in the States and continue after I get there? Also, could my asawa benefit from this and start her own business in addition to her store? She’s pretty smart and a good business woman. Would appreciate an answer so that I can get your book. Hope to meet you when I get there. BTW, it’s getting cold here in Vancouver, can’t wait to move to a warm country,LOL!
Hello Heinz,
Thank you for your comments, and for stopping by and reading here on my site. I hope everything goes smoothly for a move to Cebu!
Yes, I can indeed start most of the types of businesses that I recommend while you are still there. In fact, that is something I encourage. There are many types of businesses that you can start now, and move with you when you come here! And… sure, your wife could get started too.
Good luck to you!
Hi Bob,
I just want to say you book is really what you say. Extremely informative, and so much solid, concrete information. I have never read any self help or information book that laid out the detail in depth like you did. After reading just the first 24 pages, I had numerous ideas about how to put your information to use.
I am extremely impressed and amazed at how much real information you detail.
I highly recommend this book to any one who wants to improve their financial position.
Thanks so much for this.
Gene – aka Oscar Jones Dambrit
Thank you very much, Gene, for your feedback, I appreciate it very much! I am glad to know that you have found the book to be helpful!

Hi Bob,
I forgot to mention, I really thank you for the meeting. It was a very pleasing and extremely interesting meeting. I learned a lot from you. I look forward to a future meeting.
Thanks.
Gene – aka Oscar Jones Dambrit
I also enjoyed meeting you Gene! We’ll get together again soon!
Dear Bob,
I live in MAnila for 4 years, but we had to return home in Latina America after 3 years , we just want to return to Manila but there is the big issue, what I am going to do to survive there. I am very much want to buy your book to see if that can help me to return to MAnila, but I do not have credit card is there any other way to pay it to you? Please let me know, thank you
Hello Daniela – I could accept Western Union if that would work for you.
Hi Bob! Any updates on the Ebook? I am going to order it tonight. I am looking forward to reading it.
I also work online full time for myself. I will be in Davao from Jan. 30- Feb. 20th. I hope we can meet sometime while I am there. I wanted to talk some also about buying a condo there in Davao for a good price and in my name. I love your stuff, and I am a repeat customer at WowDavao. Talk soon.
Hi Todd – Thanks for your purchase, I do hope that you find the book informative and useful!
I would be happy to meet up with you while you are in Davao! Feyma is the one to talk to about the condo… I basically know nothing about that, but she’s an expert!
She’ll be happy to talk with you about it, though.

chow!!!
Kumusta po kayo Bob
I just got back from Los Baños, Laguna was there for a month and fell in love with the Philippines, I know a hand full of Tagalog. My wife grew up there and is wanting to move back in a few years. One thing that I have notice is that the market seems to be already saturated with internet cafes, coffee shops and so on. I read that you opened a few business, do you cover this topic in your book?
Salamat po
Chaz
Hi Chaz – I have literally opened dozens of businesses here in the Philippines. Some of them I am no longer doing, but most are still active. Nearly every idea in the book is for things that I have done. I don’t cover things like Internet Cafes, because I no longer consider them viable in most cases.
Hi Bob,
I,m a resident of the UAE ,marraid to a Filipino girl and I got 2 beautiful daughters from her. I like ur websites, I keep checking them sometimes. They are very informative. I dont have plans to move to the philippines but I,m quite interested to learn what you are offering in your book, so I have decided to buy it. Will do a feedback about your book once I read it. Good work!
Hi Amir – Good luck, and let me know how you like the book.
Hi Bob
This TV documentary, the title Dayuhang Dukha translates to “poor foreigner”,
It looks at the misfortunes of 4 homeless foreigners who lost their wealth here. Not sure if its available on the net, but attracted a lot of interest.
http://www.gmanetwork.com/news/story/246500/newstv/reeltime/mga-dayuhang-dukha-sa-reel-time
Dare I say it Bob, they should have bought the book, Cheers.
Hi Tony – Unfortunately, this sort of thing happens to a lot of expats here. Very sad.
Hello Bob,
Since you have many internet suggestions, could you start an internet business before you move there?
Hi Roger – Absolutely! I did!
Hello Bob – Love the site…i was born there, moved to LA, CA @ 13, from Laguna &Quezon and has gone back in 94,98,1999,2009,2010. I’m 37, wife is 33, same situation, from Cebu and Dipolog, moved to LA@ 10 yrs old, been back in 2009&2010. We’re both self employed here in CA as Realtors but we’d do anything to move back there, live seaside, possibly run a small business and live it that way. I also like the idea of owning a small resort, where me and the wife could reside. I do realize this will all take a lot of work, its not exactly just moving to the islands to chill, there’s a whole lot of work to be done. We’re having some difficulty trying to plan our move there since we have not much resources. Where do you suggest we start? We’re mostly afraid of going there and not finding a way to make $$$ and blow it up and be back in cali in 3 years or less. We love it in Cebu, outside the hustle of the city, which reminded me to ask you why Davao? What pros and cons did you consider?
We also like to live like hermit hippies so I know that if there’s a way to make a good living there just using the internet to a success, I know its something we can do since its just in us to have the work ethic to not fail, or keep getting back up. WE just really want so advice…I guess that’s why we frequent your site so much…
Hi Rainman – You are almost the same age that I was when I moved here. I came when I was 38, and I just turned 50 a couple weeks ago. So you are ripe for the move!
Owning a resort is something that a LOT of people get into and most of the time it does not work out well, so be careful. Do you have experience in running a hotel/resort or something along those lines? If so, perhaps you could do it here. If you have no such experience it is probably not a line for you to go after.
What I suggest is that you do something that you enjoy and that you have knowledge about. Something for which you have passion. When you do something you love doing and that you are knowledgeable about, the money will take care of itself.
Of course, I also recommend my book, 49 Ways to Make a Living in the Philippines!
Thank you for visiting my site! I’m glad you enjoy it.
thanks Bob, just one more question, why Davao? What were your pros and cons?
Hi Rainman – I have probably written at least 50 articles on this site in answer to that question. I could write 10,000 words or more in response to your question. Sorry, I don’t have the time or inclination to do that. For an overview of why I love Davao, read this article: I live in Davao City and hear is what I think about the place. Keep in mind, this article is about 6 years old, so some things have changed, but overall I still consider it very accurate.
Now, let’s be clear, I am not saying you should live here, that’s a personal choice that only you can make. If you are thinking Davao might be an option for you, though, I do recommend you come and check it out.
Hi Bob,
I have been able to read your articles once in a while. They are really informative. I am also from Davao and am a Filipino. Hope to meet you someday here. And maybe we can do business together. I am more into the IT field.
Hi Rambo – I’d enjoy meeting you if possible. If you see me around town, please do say hi!
I’ve been living in the Philippines for nearly 4 years now. At first, I tried working in a call center, but that’s really a “young man’s game”. But then I discovered that if you can write English, you can sign up with oDesk and write articles, etc. – which is what I do now. I also taught my wife how to work on oDesk and together, we’re averaging about $500 US per week. (See: https://www.odesk.com/users/Experienced-Retired-American-Writer-with-SEO-Background_~~ebd14511b06194bb). You might want to give this a try, since you can work from home. I also got an oDesk assignment for a nephew and he is making $100 a week. ..
Hi Henry – Congratulations on the work you found. For me, making $500 per week would just not be worth the effort, and I prefer being an entrepreneur and doing many different types of business on my own. But, different strokes for different folks, and if you are happy doing that, more power to you, my friend.
I am retired and want to make extra-income. I would like to order your book but I don’t have own a credit card. Please let me know. Thank you.
Hi bob can you give me a price for your book to be sent t victoria australia the total cost please. And i know u have an electronic book u can download is it cheaper. I would rather a hard copy t read in my spare time. Thanks michelle & bill
Hi Michelle and Bill – The book is only available in electronic format. I do not offer hard copies. You are free to print it out, though, if that would be more helpful to you.
I should buy your book, i am curious about all the 49 ideas…maybe i can find 1 or 2 that can help me to start on my own there who knows? i would like to read more about Davao. can you make an update about davao also everything you write about it, it is only positive but i also that nowhere is perfect. What is the few things that you dislike from this city or aera?
I would like to know whew to go to change my e-mailm can you plse give me the link,,,in advance thanks
Hi Renay – I have not written all positive about Davao, I have written plenty of negatives, apparently you just have not yet read them. For one, check out this article: A Davao Downside.
Another negative to Davao that I have mentioned many times is that traffic is getting terrible in Davao. The only place in the Philippines with worse traffic that I am aware of is Manila.
I am sorry, I don’t know what you mean by where to go to change your e-mailm? Is that somehow related to my site? I don’t know what you mean.
Hi Bob, that is the article i have read, (I live in Davao City and hear is what I think about the place.) nothing negative there !!! i didn’t search for an other and thanks for the other link also and for sure i will enjoy reading it.
about my e-mail i mean here: (Speak Your Mind, all opinions welcome except flames and personal attacks) my e-mail address appearing is not good anymore because i have an other e-mail.
thanks for all
Hi Renay – Well, you change your e-mail address right there on your computer. When you go to comment it asks for your name, website and e-mail, you just change it right there. You don’t change it here on the site.
Ok Thanks and i get your book this week…
OK, lolo56, no problem.
Thanks, yes sir i am a new LOLO at 56, grand daugther in philippines and today our anniversary so only good news from my parts. lol

WOW Alot of nay-sayers out there, I would just like to say that I met a beautiful Filipina in 2007 online, I went to meet her in person in 2009 and proposed. When I got back to the USA I started liquidating EVERYTHING I owned . I started an online business and I bought Bob’s e-Book in 2010, one of the methods Bob mentions in his book I had already started, but this gave me encouragement that I could make a living doing it. Early in 2011 I was ready to leap and Moved to the Philippines for good, it is now April 2012 Im married, have a new baby girl and I am indeed making a living in the Philippines using one of the methods in Bobs book, other methods he mentions I am planning on working on in the future, as they are viable and legitimate ways to make money here. Am I making $20,000/mo. ? No, but I am palying my bills, and I can easily see doubling my profits this year given the success of my first 1 1/2 years. Most new businesses fail within the first 2 years…. I think because most people are to skeptical and dont believe they can do it. As for me I have no choice, I have nothing to return to in the USA, and I have Every reason I need to make my life and my living here in the Philippines. I have never met Bob, but I think he is a up front guy, and if you are preparing to move to the Philippines I think his book is a valuable resource and well worth his asking price.
Hi JacKano – I am very happy to hear that you have been successful in doing some business online! I wish you the best of luck (we both know it’s not really luck, though, it’s hard work) in expanding your earnings! I know you can do it.
Thank you for the plug. Don’t worry about the naysayers… those guys are always around!
Now THIS is what I was looking for in a response to Bob’s book. All I saw were general comments and responses until I saw this.
I am currently a U.S. contractor working in Iraq. I figure that I have another 2 years working contracts at the most and I want to move to the Phillipines because I met someone, visited in Ormoc City, and we hit it off and want to get married. I do a little binary trading, but I wanted something more and want an online business. $500-$1,000 per week is more than enough for me. I’m not greedy. I just want to be happy with the woman of my dreams.
Bob….I’m buying the e-book right NOW….I saved this page to my favorites, and I will let you know what happens. I might just give you that consulting fee to give me a boost in my start up.
Thank you Joseph. If you have questions after reading the book, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
Hello Bob,
I am curious as to whether the ideas you list in your book are ways to earn money that are specifically applicable to the Philippines, or whether they are concepts that are viable nearly everywhere.
Thank you.
David
Hi David – To be honest, MOST of the ideas can be applied anywhere in the world. I would say that perhaps a half dozen of the 49 ideas are more Philippine specific. In fact, when the book was first introduced, I had several people review the book, and all of them said to me that I should drop “Philippines” from the title, because the book could be used anywhere.
Hope this helps, David.
Hi Bob,
I am coming to Phil in June 12 and want to buy your book as myself and my Philippine partner are going to settle there.
Trouble is I do not have a paypal account and will not get one due to a bad experience with them and someone hacking my ebay account. However can you give me details of how I can transfer the money to you by other means.
Cheers
Hi Paul – I can take other payment methods like Western Union, or some other cash transfer system. Let me know what system you like to use, and I’ll work my best to accommodate you.
don’t get it, you live in Philippines and have business in Philippines and yet your example photo (bank statement) and some discussion are in dollars, that is something strange to me.
Hi Mac- not sure where you get the idea that I have businesses in the Philippines. Every business that I own is US registered, and I rarely do business with people go the Philippines. About 75 percent of my business is with customers in the States. More than 99 percent of my business transactions are dollar denominated. Seems pretty clear to me.
Hi Bob,
I just came across a couple of your websites while doing some research. I once had an ex-pat filipina girlfriend who wanted me to live in the PI for just a few months to learn about the culture and to get married near her family, especially her two sons. That’s all ancient history. Well, now I have met another filipina, and her ties to her family are strong enough that she is afraid of living abroad without better education. Because of this, I have had to wrack my brain for ideas about earning a living if it came down to having to move to the PI. Not an easy task as you already know.
In reading your website, I began to think what kind of marketable skills I might have to do as you have done. My adult life has been split between between an electrician and working in restaurants, specifically cooking. I also went to college for creative writing. My ex-girlfriend introduced me to some of the cuisine of the PI. Do you think I could make a living by publishing information, recipes, reviews, etc. for both traditional and modern filipino food? Would it be enough, or should I also consider doing some online technical writing within the electrical field?
I haven’t read your book yet (I only just found out about it). I also am not 100% sure about moving to the PI. I was over a year ago, but I now realize I have a lot more research to do….a lot of learning still. It is obvious that I need to have my ducks lined up in a row before throwing myself fully into it. Otherwise, I will have work that much harder if and when I do move. It sounds like many of your ideas can actually be started before making the move since they are online. Correct me if I’m wrong. After all, you learned the hard way, and you are sharing this info so others learn from both your failures and successes.
Thanks,
Chris
Hi Chris – Actually nothing that I am doing now was started before moving to the Philippines. To be honest, I had some very good plans for what I would do to make money here in the Philippines, but when I moved here, basically none of those plans worked out! So, I started fresh, and developed what I am doing now as I went along. It all worked out good for me, and I am very happy with my life here.
As for you… if you want to write, why not write about both subjects? Separate platforms, of course, though.
Good luck with your goals. I hope everything works out well for you.
Hey Bob! I’m thinking about buying the book. I’m a bit skeptical though. Does the book have “Duh” ideas like writing articles on Odesk, make an affiliate site about blue widgets or making money with Google Adsense. Stuff I can easily find on the WF or BHW? Are they legitimate business ideas? Thanks!
John
Hi J – The ideas in the book are legitimate business ideas. Many of the things in the book are things that I do every single day, or have done in the past. Heck, there is a 30 day money back guarantee, no questions asked, so how could you go wrong?
If I were to purchase, should the ideas be started in the US or would be better if I was in the PH first? Thanks!
Hi J – You can start the business anywhere that you wish to start! Some of the things in the book need to be done where you are going to live, but only a few. The vast majority can be done anywhere and are relatively portable.
Bob, My wife of 25 years is a filipino ( (65 years old and a permanet resident alien ) and I’m (68 years old) American born and raised. She wants to become an American citizen so when we go to live in the Philippines she can keep her Social Security and also get Philippine citizenship back. I want to get Philippine citizenship (while keeping my American citizenship) so I can own property and not have to have an SRRV visa with all its deposits etc. I’m also in a wheelchair and on Social Security. What do I do first and what is your thoughts on the matter.
Hello Earl (Sonny) – Well, everything you said sounds great… except that you cannot legally do it!
Yes, for your wife, her plan is smack on. She can become a US Citizen, then re-acquire her Philippine Citizenship with no problems
For you, though, legally you cannot become a dual citizen. The Philippine Dual Citizenship law applies only to people who are former Philippine Citizens. Since you have never been a Philippine Citizen, you are not eligible. You can become a Philippine Citizen, but under Philippine law, you will be required to renounce your US Citizenship during the process.
You do not need to be a Philippine Citizen to avoid the SRRV visa and the fees and deposits involved. You, as the spouse of a Filipina, are eligible for a 13 Series Resident visa and on that you can live here forever. I have a 13(g) resident visa and have been here for 12 years now with that. No deposits or anything of the sort.
Good luck to you.
Hey! Iv considering moving to the Philippines. moving outside of a city, but not to far from it. Iv heard you can easily live off $900 a month in a 2-3bedroom 2 bathroom aparment/house. My son whos 19 wants grow crops etc. and sell them at a stall. Is that very popular down there? or do people shop in stores 99% of the time? does that make sense? he wants to grow and bild his own things and sell them on the streets. To people buy alot from “vendors” or “stalls”?
Yes, public markets are very popular here. But, your plan, to me, is not a wise one. All I can do is wish you luck and advise you to prepare yourself for a tough life if you take that path.
Sorry that came across wrong, I would be a missionary being supported by multiple churches here in the US. But my son wanted to know if he attempted to run a stall if he could make a little money off of it. More to give him something to do.

Like I said, he might make a little…. very little.
Hello Bob,
I am Daniel, we have corressponded before on the safety of living in Gensan on one of your other sites. I will be ordering your book shortly, but I would really like to know how long it takes to get an income that one could live on in the Philippines, My sister has a very lucritive internet business here in Canada however in all honesty it took her a couple of years to get to the point where it really started to pay for her.
Hi Daniel – Thanks for the comment.
Really, I would say that it takes a minimum of a year of hard work to get something like a blog or such making money. If you are looking to do something else like selling on eBay, selling via e-Commerce or something, it can be done in 6 months. But, that is 6 months or a year of hard working, not just an hour a day or something. Your sister’s experience of taking a couple of years is pretty average, I’d say.
Good luck to you, Daniel.
PS:
Bob I am Daniel Ewington, not the same Daniel that made the smart ass remarks on Oct 1st 2011.
Ha ha.. no prob, Daniel!
Gday Bob ; First forum site i recently joined / the two bits of advice that i found to be a bit sus , were 1- an ex-pat has no chance of earning money , and 2- do not start a relationship on the web . Regarding earning money – as an ex – opal miner , a bloke soon uses his wits to earn money when the opal is hiding . Tourism and opal and jewellry is 1 obvious avenue to check out . Am persuing a sweet filipina on a web-site also . Your book is a must for me to order , intend flying over in august , ( time to leave the rat-race ) CHEERS !
Ha ha.. well, Terence, I’ve never done any opal mining, but it sounds like you have a good plan. Good luck when you come to the Philippines, I hope all works out well for you.
Hi Bob,
I purchased your book and have done some research about your number 1 way to make money. I don’t have the space to stock products I could sell. I’m wondering if there a way to drop-ship products to my future customers good profit. What is your recommendation?
Hi Jay – I would strongly recommend against using drop shipping methods, because when you do so, you put your reputation into somebody elses hands. If they drop the ball on shipping, it reflects on you. I would never use drop shipping.
By the way, when I was involved in that business, I did not stock any products at all most of the time, I bought the products as I needed to ship them.

Hi Bob,
My idea is to set up a business and enable myself before moving to the Philippines with my pinoy spouse.
I purchased your book and have done some research about your number 1 way to make money. The thing is, I don’t have the space right now to stock products I could sell. I’m wondering if there’s a way to drop-ship products to my future customers for a decent profit. I’m wondering what worked for you and if you can give me a solid recommendation ?
Thank you,
Jay
Hi Jay – I answered your question in previous comments.
Hi Bob,
Thanks for pointing that out. I suppose you were buying your product to sell online locally.
No, I never sold anything locally. I bought locally, but sold internationally.
Greetings Bob,
I’m currently living in Manila the last six months. Looking to start a business in the Philippines. Is Paypal the only way of payment or do you have a link to pay with my visa card?
Hi Brian – Since you are in Manila, I can take a cash transfer through LBC if that would be convenient for you. Alternatively, you could deposit the cash to my Union Bank account. Let me know, and I’ll make arrangements.
greetings Bob,
Please provide your payment info to my email
Hi Brian, I just sent you a Paypal invoice for the book.
Hi Bob!
Is the book in the same price still? Email me please. Thank you!
Hello Semei – I just sent you a private e-mail about the book, with a special offer.
Hi Bob. Am also interested in your book, i’m a pinay but permanently living in hkg . So hopefully the strategies in your book would also work here. Any special price as what you have offered the person on top. Thank you.
Hi Anna – Sure, I can offer you $10 off your purchase, but it’s good for today only! Just use the coupon code: 10discountToday
The book is mostly applicable anywhere in the world. I can think of only one idea in the book that is really specific to the Philippines, there may be a couple more, but I think it is only one such idea.
Take care!
Hi Bob!
I’m currently looking for means on how to start up my own business. I am a nurse turned writer/transcriptionist/entreprenurse and I have been a risk taker all my life. I also know some click and get paid websites which didn’t work for me. I am not a techy person, too, so my question is, do you think buying your book is worth giving a shot for me?? I’m just 80% skeptic but 100% curious.
Hi Kristina – Well, I believe that anybody could benefit from the book. I don’t really see any reason why anybody would be skeptical, because I offer a 30 day money back guarantee. There is no way you can lose!
Hi Bob,
I found your very helpful web magazine while searching somehow about Philippine tax system etc..
.
Flipping through your articles I could not resist purchasing your book – sorry for the inconvenience caused by loading your bank account
I stepped on your page because my “Madame” is from Mindanao, but currently we both are working in the Middle East. In fact she is from Surigao and has also some relatives in Davao. Live is somehow stress here with the Arabs and I am playing more and more with the idea of stepping out of the hamster wheel.
And as it happens, we got offered an 4ha orchard farm in an lovely hilly area with more than 350 trees of everything what we consider in Europe as exotic such as Mango, Rambutan, Lychee, Papaya, Lanzones, Mangosteen, Durian, Jackfruit, Chickos, Macopa, Guava and so on (in fact I have none of these fruits ever seen in my early, youngsters life) in the Hilongos (Leyte) area not that far away from Surigao.
We are still in the evaluation but if that materializes, I am thinking also on potential income generation since I do not want to end up as “Dayuhang Dukha”.
Is there something you can particularly recommend (or warn) about?
Hi Andy – Thank you for your purchase of my book, I hope you enjoy it and find it useful.
A fruit farm in the Philippines sounds like an interesting venture. I am not an agricultural person though, in fact I have a black thumb!
I would just recommend that you be careful about the land title and such when you make the purchase. I would really recommend that you live here for a while before getting into such a venture, so that you can learn how things are done here, and avoid getting ripped off. But, your wife can likely help with that, though.
Thanks for your advice,
and got a few good tips from your book.
I know farming is not everyone’s thing. Although, I am a “white collar” worker, (in fact as integrated systems & strategic project development consultant I am quite “white”) I came from the country side.
Already before (and mow after reading through your very informative pages) I became aware of the specific traps in terms of property. For that, and not to get emotionally too much entangled with “my savings”, I consider this as “anyway not really my” from the beginning and more as an investment that returns the money (if possible quickly). So, the fruit productivity of the property and not the scenery and house was the deciding factor.
You are right, vegetable farming is more cumbersome, but fruit farming can be efficient if the setup is right. And since the previous owner (in fact a catholic priest who became too old to handle his remote garden) has spent some serious thoughts in designing and compiling (14+ different kind of fruit trees etc.) I feel that could be an potential opportunity.
Fruit gardens have the advantage that you can take an out time easier. They give you more flexibility. If you do not need that high productivity ($) you let them rest. They will fruit less but give you all you just need.
If you need $ or you have the spirit to do some “work out”, you roll up the sleeves for 3-4 month and you may make some 30-40k$ in this or the folllowing season.
In fact what I have seen, many farms are run in a very sloppy way, and this Pilipinos who are really serious and disciplined in this business are quite successful.
You are right in your recommendation you have to live with them a while, and I had sufficiently to deal with Pilipinos here (some 15 years by now), so I know them. And as my wife well, I call them always my clan
.
Thanks
Ok! I will purchase your book by next week. Any special offer? I’m ecstatic for it!
Hi Kristina – I can give you $10 off if you use the coupon code – 10discountToday – I have set the coupon to work for the next week for your e-mail address. Thanks.
Hi Bob – I’m just a little bit curious on what’s in your book, as you can see I’m from Mindanao, Butuan City to be in fact.. and I’m just a college student and I need an extra income to help my aunt in all the expenses.. Can you give me an advice on what business am I gonna put up or what kind of work am I gonna took if it was a business?
Hi Dean – What business you should follow, or what kind of job you should have are personal choices that only you should make for yourself. Follow your passion, do something that you are deeply interested in. When you do that, the money will follow. If I tell you what to do, or if you decide to choose based on what makes the most money, you will surely fail, because you must do something that you have a passion for.
Good luck.
Hello Bob,
I am very intereststed in purchasing your book as I am 47 years old in a dead end job living in Florida. I very recently visited the phillipines and married a wonderful Filapina. The sense of family unity there is so inspiring that I would love nothing less than to live there with her. Naturally my concern is earning a good living for us. I have never been a writer and actually have repaired cars and trucks for a living all my life. I am in great need of this major change in my life. Naturally I am nervous and skeptical of making such a major change. I would eagerly and greatfully appreciate your advice along with some assistance along the way if you are willing.
Thankyou for your consideration.
Hi Dennis – Good luck to you, I hope it works out for the best. Whenever anybody purchases any of my books, I am pretty liberal in given them advice and help as needed. Take care.
I really appreciate the quick response. I am buying the book after completion of this reply. I was reading through the articles on this site and found it encouraging.
Thankyou again
Hello again Bob,
It is getting late here as it is after 10:00 pm. I clicked on a couple of areas on this page to purchase your book but I get an error page in response. Please advise me of where to go to make the purchase. I would also like to purchase the book on getting a visa there as a US citizen married to a Filapna.
I will check my e-mail in the morning as well as this site.
Thankyou
Hi Dennis, I am not certain what the problem could be. I tried the shopping cart on this page myself and it was working fine. I will send you a Paypal invoice for the items you indicated an interested in. I hope this will help.
Hi Bob,
Is your book applicable to all the Phillipines or southern region where you are located. Thank you for your blog and time. Have a great day
Hi Steve – It applies to all of the Philippines. In truth, many of the ideas can be used anywhere in the world, not just in the Philippines. Thanks for your interest.
Hey bob,
I think it great that you have put together this whole website business adventure.
And just looking over your comments about your ebook I can really see how you can make a lot of money online. All these people who commented whether negative or positive is a potential buyer of your products and services. And you have targeted your market will by comming with a special niche that is in high demand for millions of people around the world who are looking to make money overseas in many countries. And the famous of them all is the philipines. And I can really see how it selling your information products can make you money if you know how to market it well. I dont think most of your readers and the sceptics about your products have a clue as to what you are doing and how you do. But I can see them as a potiental who might be targeted later for a much lesser cost product or service you may offer. But what I really want to know is there anything that the goverment of the philipines will do to stop me from selling informations products online and offline. I too want to sell ebooks and books and Cds to the natives as well as others online and offline. Also Im planning to move to Illagan city soon. Is this a good city to run this kind of business. And what kinda of problems will I face in getting internet service there to meet and chat with people in western countries like europe and US canada etc. Im from the USA now.
Thank you for your kind words, Traveling Dave. I am not sure if I am familiar with the place where you are moving. You said Ilagan, but I wonder if you mean Iligan? If you meant Iligan, then I am very familiar with the place. I don’t see any problems doing business there, and I wish you the best of luck with that. I can definitely say that doing such e-business in the Philippines is not only possible, but quite good! Good luck to you.
hi, is you book is just about biz to have on line?
thx
Hi steph, no not at all. The book has 3 sections. Section 1 covers online business suggestions. Section 2 covers offline business suggestions. Section 3 covers hybrid business suggestions that are a combination of online and offline.
Bob i have been sat here reading for some hours now, you obviously have the correct mind set for your business adventures.
I am due over shortly and have already implemented some ideas and bringing in small amounts which will hopefully grow with time.
Keep up the positive thinking and i hope to meet you one day for a drink.
Hi Calvin, good luck on your move. I sincerely hope that whatever business you try is a success.
Hello again,
I am going to take a risk and buy it , I read about the refund and I am I beleive if you stick buy your product I should take the risk and buy it. My wife and I want to move back to PI and live there. I have money saved but I want to make income while there to maintain a decent life style and be happy
I just read the book and I did get some ideas. The online business portion I had knowledge on cause I have been researching and part of my trade. But I did enjoy the book for ideas and different perspectives. I have been looking at this problem for awhile with the same eyes for awhile this just basically help me get some different avenues to go on. I would not say it is a step by step guide but about 49 ways to make money and like it says you go with what you think may work for you. I recommend it for those who are new to PI are looking to start a business. This book has made me start a couple biz plans for mortar and concrete business. I just need to email you for getting affiliate information.
Thanks for your purchase, and your review of the book, Steve. The book was never intended as a “step by step” guide on how to set up a business, rather something that gives you ideas on 49 different possible business, and even more, something to spur your mind to think outside the box and come up with ideas of your own. I’m glad you got that from the book, and I wish you good luck in coming up with something successful!
I read all new posts on your website “live in the philippines”, and enjoy it. It is a sober and nice site, with very few “angry old men”…
Anyway, i have looked at the ad for your book a long time and what the heck – 49 bucks isn’t a fortune. If it works – great, if it doesn’t well – my loss. Any start of a business is a risc and this one is a cheap risc. I do have blogs, so i guess i will look for way to make a better earning from them.As it is now there’s almost no income from them, luckily i have my means to live from, but i do want to have a more steady income, we can all use a $ more – specially here. I have just moved here to Philippines with my wife, in Pampanga.
I am a rather experienced IT man, that have run webshops in my home country and do know a lot about SEO and websites, so i look forward to read the book and get rich tomorrow – or maybe next week
Thanks for a great blog.
Have a nice day
Axel
Hi Axel, thank you for your purchase. If you have questions that you would like to ask, feel free to e-mail me! Good luck on your quest to earn money online!
hello, my name is andy from uk, i married a filipno in feb this year, but finances dictated i had to come home, but soon i am returning to my wife, who is also expecting child in oct, think this book could be what i’m looking for as i need to earn a living when i get back to phils, my question is this, am i allowed to set up business? or, as i am led to believe, the business has to be in my wifes name and she gets 60%?
Hi Andrew – You are right, you cannot own a business in the Philippines, in most cases. However, in the book, most of what I talk about are businesses that you can base in your home country, but just do the work here. It’s all low profile, under the radar type stuff for the most part. Stuff that you can own 100%.
hi bob!!
I’m an 18 year old high school grad from Japan going to the philippines for college and i was wondering if the book can help me run a business while I’m still in school, even though im only there for about a year?
Hi Russel – Of course! It can help you start a business anywhere in the world, one that you can keep going, even if you go back to Japan.
i retire to the phils in september,,,i have a wife and home in surallah,,, surallah is fast growing to become a city in the next 10 years and lots of building taking place,,, i want to start a hollow block and lumber business but having trouble finding the machines here,,, any ideas as to where i can try..?
I would think you could find something in GenSan.
Good day:
Interested to know how you maintain USA bank accounts if you live in the Philippines. USA law says you need to have a USA address to open/maintain a USA bank account.
I have more than one USA bank account, in two different banks. I do maintain a mailing address in the USA, and my banks have my US address, but also know that I live in the Philippines. They have no problem with that.
I also have a US bank account, and use only my Philippines mailing address for what ever that is worth.
Hi, will it be possible for me to start a business worth a million or above, with the help of your book? In pesos.
I am 26 years old and willing to Philippines as soon as I see a good overt unity for business in Philippines. Please advise.
Thanks
Sure, John. You can start lots of businesses based on the advice in my book.
Hi Bob,
It was interesting to read a lot of the comments here and just wanted to add that I have been living in the Philippines myself since 2003, came here on a “don’t know when I will be back trip” and never went back..
With very little money! (about $3000USD) in less than two months I was completely broke…
No monthly checks, or income for me here, so I had to find ways to make a living.
I would guess some of my ideas are probably already in your book, and I am sure there is a lot more to be learned from reading your book.
But wanted to make a statement to the naysayers here, that YES! people can find ways to make an income in the Philippines…
I have been here over 9 years to date, and now have a nice home on the beach, with a great wife and we have 4 children now.
Say Hi to your friend Don H for me, I have not seen him in a few years now
i would like to ask u how much does this book focuses on non-computer bussinesses, my wife is a Filipino and we will be moving their for good soon. this Dec will be my 5th trip back to the phils. she is their now boared with nothing to do. will this book give her something to do? lol
Hi Seth – About half of the ideas in the book are computer businesses, and about half are not involved with the computer. Hope this helps.
to add…. i have a little to invest but not much. she lives in Palawan. can i start making money with 500 or 1000 dollars?
Hi Seth – About 2/3 of the businesses in the book can be started with $100 or less.. so yes, you can make money with a small investment if you are willing to do the work.
So it’s as easy as that? I buy your book, adopt one of those ideas and bang i’m a millionaire? What about a piggery?
Nope, for sure it is not as easy as that, Buddy. I never said anything in the article about it being that easy, did I? It involves work. Any honest way of making money involves work. If you think you can just buy the book and be a millionaire, I would advise you not to buy it, because you will not get what you are looking for.
A piggery? Sure, you can make a little money with a piggery. Will you ever be a millionaire? No way, unless you have a huge pig operation, or you are talking about being a millionaire in Philippine Pesos.
Hi Bob,
I’m an Indian citizen and have been offered a role in one of the large telecoms providers here
Contemplating on the offer, however, my girlfriend is a IT software programmer back in India.
Will she get a suitable profile here in the Phils?
your suggestions pls
Hi Kai – No way I can know for sure, but I think she could do quite well here, given her field.
Thanks Bob,
Appreciate your prompt response!
A quick one, just for interest, how do the Philippine companies fare in terms of expats contracts renewal?
Regards
There are very few expat package type jobs left anymore. Most jobs are filled with local talent.
How relevant is the book now considering it was created in 2008 and updated 2 years ago?
Is there anyone out there who can say they have made money from the book?
Thanks.
Im really interested in your book, how many pages is it ? Id rather have the solid book than a virtual ebook. And i dont have a paypal account, id like to pay by western union. Here in UAE – Abu Dhabi
The book is 136 pages. It is only available in electronic format, but you are free to print it out if you would like to do so. I would be happy to accept Western Union, no problem on that.
Hi Bob-tried to buy your book, but site won’t accept my VISA debit card (issued by a major US bank). No red “mandatory” cells to have to fill in, just doesn’t “Continue.” This is the second instance where “Paypal Guest” doesn’t work for me this year. In the first case, called Paypal, they said to call the card bank. I called the card bank, they said the card works. And it does work – for Amazon and other online site purchases.
Why don’t I open an account with PP? Did so years ago, nothing but nightmares.
Thanks
Hi denny – I understand about Paypal.. some people despise them. I have personally not had any real issues with them, but I do understand that others have, so no problem.
I can accept payment by lots of other ways too, though. I can use any way that you prefer. Western Union, LBC, G-Cash or whatever works for you. Just let me know and I would be happy to accommodate you.
Hi Bob – I tried another credit card and it works.
Here’s a hint on why the first one didn’t work. I live in Japan. Perhaps PP screens out a US card issued to someone with a foreign address. The second one that worked is issued from my local department store. Both are VISA’s.
Thanks and great respect to you for pulling yourself up by the bootstrap. BTW, what does LBC or G-Cash mean? I’m not a local, so maybe just missing something because of that.
Best regards
Hi Denny – Thanks for your purchase! I appreciate it very much, and if you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail me any time.
LBC and G-Cash are local ways of sending money in the Philippines. I was unsure where you were located, so I included those as possibilities.
Hi Bob! you really have a great site! Your posts are very informative and entertaining to read. There are really many ways of earning… I, myself, am earning online too. Well, I am not a foreigner. I’m a Filipina and I work for an American boss, full-time.
I’m sure a lot of people will learn from your books. Good Luck to all of them who wants to move and live here in the Philippines. Cheers!
Thank you for your comment jamie. I hope that you continue to find success online! For me, it is the very best way to earn a living!
Hi Bob, You seem like a reasonable, social personality with business smarts you’re willing to share. When I saw that you had a book with 49 ways to make a living in PI, I was ready to order it. But then I found it was not a physical book, but an ebook, & I’d have to use Paypal. I’m wary of computers; they can be brilliant or quite useless (when you can’t find the data, or the pc crashes). I have a self owned business of my own in the States, selling rugs & flags roadside from California to Massachusetts to Florida to Wyoming (current) & the West in general, for almost 25 years. Obviously the biz is successful to the degree that its gone on longer than most, but my savings are lagging behind. So actually I’m quite pleased that you have ways of making it in the Philippines where I have a young fiancee that I want to get back to asap, with minimal investment. My hesitation (usually I see a self-help or laisez faire book & order it, even if it takes many weeks to catch up with me) is that I don’t know what I get with an ebook & if it comes on my email I could miss it or have lousy internet service the week it comes (I’ve been on the road with my biz since 2006, apart from 3 months in PI last winter). I’ll adventure to try Paypal again, but if I find I’m enrolled already, I’ll be stuck if I don’t remember the password, as has occurred before. Anyway please let me know exactly what the ebook means or if you have a physical book, which I would buy in an instant. By the way, since you seem to be very agreeable in answering questions, how do you get out of going to Manila or other Immigration & paying a substantial sum to the government every 59 days? (I’m hoping there’s a longer term & cheaper visa available)
Hi Chris – Thank you for your comment. The book is available only as an electronic book. It is a book that you can read on your computer, or if you wish you could even print it out so that you have a hard copy.
Paypal is the payment option that I prefer, but if you can’t or don’t like to use Paypal, just let me know and we can work out an alternative payment method.
Thank you again, and take care.
Hey I was wondering Bob, would I be able to star any of these businesses first without being there, then move over?
Yes, absolutely! That is really a good way to go, and can be done with more than half of the ideas in the book!
Hi, Bob. Your book definitely sounds interesting, and you seem like an upfront, upstanding good guy. May I ask how many copies you have sold? Also, are there any other details you can give me? I have a very hard time selling or making money here in Philippines. I have been here for 5 years. Thank you!
Regards, Cee
Hi Cee – Thank you for your comment. I don’t have an actual count on how many copies have been sold to date. About a year ago I checked, and sold about 4,000 copies at that time. I suppose that I have probably sold around 5,000 by now.
The book has a 30 day no-questions money back guarantee, so you can’t really go wrong. I don’t know… I have never found it a problem making money here, except for the first 2 years that I lived here (I have now lived here nearly 13 years). You can do it too, you just have to learn how!
Take care.
Hi Bob,
I want to purchase your book but the link given was not available. Please advise.
Thanks
Ho Orlenz – Hmm… I just checked it and it is working fine. Oh… I also noticed that you just bought the book, so I guess it ended up working for you too! Please let me know if you have any questions, and thank you for your purchase!
Mabuhay, Bob.
I plan to retire to the Phils in the next 5 or so years. Likely Cebu/Dumaguete City as that seems to be a good place to live based on my research.
My question is about your book, “49 Ways to Make a Living in the Philippines” – I wanted to know if I could apply these 49 ways while here is the US, and if any of them involve MLM.
Is there a site that has a neutral review on your book?
I know that you have a presence on a LOT of “Retire in the Phils” websites, so I’m thinking that might be the primary focus of your book.
While I don’t expect you to reveal any of your 49 methods, can you give me an idea of what’s involved?
Thanks,
Pete
Hi Pete – Yes, you can absolutely get started in the States, in fact that is what I encourage you doing! That will give you a “head start” when you move here and bring your business with you.
There is nothing in the book about MLM. I am not an MLM believer.
There are a number of sites out there with a review of the book. “Neutral”? Well, I hope all of them are neutral, because I did not tell any of them what to say. Here are a few reviews:
Dave Starr’s Review
Tom Nixon’s Review, Part 1
Tom Nixon’s Review, Part 2
Actually, “retire” in the Philippines, is not my niche at all! I promote living in the Philippines. If it were retirement that I was going for, “ways to make a living” in the Philippines would not be what I would be promoting! Ha ha…
About half of the methods in the book, Pete, are online, Internet things. About 1/4 are non-online ideas. The final 1/4 are hybrid ideas that would involve using online together with offline methods.
I do offer a 30 day no questions asked guarantee. 100% of your money back if you don’t like the e-book.
Hi Bob,
Thanks for your prompt answer. I have a few years before I make the move to the Phils and will be living on a SS check that will allow a single guy to live well, but would like to make some extra money over the next several years and to also have a secondary income in case SS goes bust or if benefits are cut as things in the US are on Shaky ground economically.
I will probably get married at some point to a Pinay, so the extra funds will help.
BTW, I meant to write “Dalaguete” (not Dumaguete) as my preferred destination on Cebu Island, although I am also considering GenSan City as well.
I’ll probably order your “49 ways” book soon and some of your other books over the next few years as I get closer to retirement.
Thanks again for your time and patience.
Your input is much valued to those of us approaching retirement age who are considering relocating to the RP
Hi Pete – Happy to help, and I wish you the best of luck on your pending move!
Hi Bob,
This may be a bit off the subject but I think the best way for me to learn about Davao is to work with you on updating your Davao info once I am actually living there. I could guest post for you on subjects like:
restaurant reviews
how to buy a car in davao
moving to davao
things to do in davao
expat groups in davao
49 reasons not to live in Cebu (just kidding)
etc.
I also am a really good video producer/editor and youtube is a great SEO tool as you know.
I have not read your ebook but at one time I owned over 100 websites and blogs, made money with adsense, selling ads and also amazon stores. My biggest mistake with all this was I tried to diversify too much with too many different subjects instead of concentrating on one area like you have, living in the Philippines being your central theme.
My favorite work was to teach small business owners how to market their products and or services on the web using social media like Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin, Youtube, etc.
I have reduced my presence online only because I am retired now and did not want to spend 15 hrs a day at the computer anymore and thank goodness dont need the money. When i move to Davao i will be more interested in getting out in the community, meeting interesting people and keeping somewhat occupied.
I would be happy just to compare notes with you over a cold one sometime then we could figure out how I might be able to contribute.
Keep up the good work
Hi Dick – Thanks for your comment. I would be happy to get together when you get to Davao, and talk about living here and other things like making money on the net. I have a staff of employees who work on my sites and such, so I am pretty well covered there, but I appreciate your offer to help.
Hi Bob,
I am interested in ordering. Do you have any special discounts at the moment?
Thanks
Hi Dwan – I just sent you a private e-mail with a special discount code for you to use. Thank you for your interest.
Hi Bob – I’d like to give your book as a gift to inspire someone to get the ball rolling here. A discount code would be appreciated (but not essential).
Thanks
Hi Steve – use this discount code for $10 off: 10discountToday
The discount coupon will be good for you for the next 24 hours. Thanks for your interest.
Hi Bob – just bought the book with the discount coupon included and all looks good.
Thanks very much
Thank you, Steve, for your purchase. Good luck to you.
HI Bob hope your well reading the blogs and what other people have said i believe we all skeptic in one way or the other espeacilly in the world we live in today, but i also notice that you have a answer for everthing and that is probably how you got where you are today.
Hi David, well, I try to offer honest ideas and value for the money. I offer a 30 day money back guarantee and I stand behind what I sell 100%. Because of that I don’t believe there is reason for anybody to be skeptical.
Thanks for your comment.
Hey Bob,
I bought your book a few months ago. Regarding selling on Ebay from the Philippines to the outside world, how do I ship small items (Tshirt) to customers in the USA? And isn’t it costly to ship? Is it still worth to sell?
Thanks
Ryan
Hi Ryan- I did explain how to do the shipping in the book. For a t-shirt, I recommend using PhilPost for that. Yes, it is costly to ship, which is why I suggested finding items that you could make larger profits on, and use the larger profit you make to subsidize the shipping cost.
Good luck to you.
hi again just wondering what you did before the book? did you work in sells by any chance? have a good day.
My background is in retail management, but I have been self employed for about 20 years.
hi bob could you not find 50 ways to make money in the phils only 49 its not that many lol.
Truth is, the book has a bonus idea that does put it at 50.
Dear Mr. Bob
I am a Bangladesh national. Now I am at saudi arabia. But I want to do business at Philippine. So please advice me how it is possible? Also advice me how I can get your book and how I will be pay to you through Speedcash from Saudi Arabia.
Hi Kumar – I can take any major credit or debit card, or I can take Western Union. I am sorry, I know nothing about Speedcash from Saudi Arabia.
Is this book just as effective today as when you published it? Is there a newer book out?
Yes the book is current and relevant. I do update it from time to time.
Hi Bob, i am Belgium and filipino resident,..the problem you dont mension here is that foreingers are called aliens here in the philipines is that they dont have right on business unless they are maried and living here in the country..many are verry confused about this and geting a wrong idea about making money here…you bether warn your fellow Americans that they NEVER can get into business without being resident here….
Hi Claes – Thank you for your comment. I am sorry, but your information is not completely correct. There are some types of business that a foreigner can get involved in, even as a 100% owner. Most types of business in the Philippines allow up to 40% foreign ownership, so foreigners can still do business, albeit as a minority owner. All of the types of business in my book can be 100% foreign owned, except for one, which would require a Filipino business partner.
Hi Bob, i am very interested in this book just have a few questions (Sorry if they have already been asked but really dont want to search through thousands of posts
)
Im 25 from the UK and have a teaching degree, ive always wanted to come to the Philippines to work and i have asked around, like you mentioned 99% of them reply with negative statements “Forget making money in the Philippines as a foreigner, even as a Filipino citizen its hard to find work”,
Towards the end of my degree i started to go off the idea of teaching (4 years wasted i know) so i dont really want to come there and teach. I have tried a bit of “making money” online but have not been successful (affiliate marketing, writing ebooks etc) I purchased a different book to this as it was a little cheaper but only had 2 ideas, 1 was selling on ebay, which lets face it there can not be much profit to be made after the posting cost? and another was a site called e****e.com (dont want to give ideas away if they are in your book.
What i am trying to ask really is, being someone who has little knowledge of making money online will this book be suitable for me? i plan on making my trip there in July, and if all things are well (fingers crossed) i plan to not return to this little grey island
Thanks mate
Liam
Hi Liam – Thanks for your comment and questions.
Selling on eBay. I used to do that for a living. You are so right… there just isn’t much profit in it… on my worst month, after getting my business set up and rolling, I only made about $10,000 profit in a month. Just not much there!
Are you kidding? There is a ton of money to be made on eBay! That $10,000 in a month was made right here in the Philippines, and I did that for years here, making outrageous sums of money.
Also, this book is not about how to make money on the internet. Some of the ideas are for ways to earn on the net. Some have nothing to do with the net. These days, I make 100% of my income via the Internet, but I have done it off the net too, and cover those methods in the book as well.
If you are interested in living in the Philippines, but you need a source of income, getting a job here is generally not the way to go. Firstly, most companies are not looking to hire foreigners. Secondly, you probably won’t want to work for the kind of wages offered here, usually only a few dollars per day.
To help out people like you, I have written a book called “49 Ways to earn a living in the Philippines” and I cover ideas of all sorts on how you can earn a good living while living in the Philippines. I have been earning my living here since 2000, and I earn more money now than when I lived in the States. So, I know that I can help you do that too!
To check out the book, go to:
http://books.auctiontopia.com/books/49-ways-to-make-a-living-in-the-philippines/
As a special offer to you, I am going to offer you $10 off the book, but the offer is good for only the next 24 hours. During checkout, just enter the coupon code – 10discountToday – and the book will be $10 off the regular price. But, remember, the discount expires after 24 hours.
Check it out today, I am sure that this is what you are looking for, if you want to live in the Philippines!
$10,000 is that it bob? bahh peanuts
… I would be happy with 10,000 every 2 moths!
Another question i have for you Bob, not sure if you could answer this its due to getting citizenship/visa…
Im 25 now, but when I was 17 I got charged with a minor crime (drunken bar fight, stupid i know!) is that going to bite me in the ass during the process of moving?
The discount coupon, can you freeze it until Saturday by any chance, I get paid Friday night and will be wanting to purchase then if possible
Hi Liam – I don’t think that your conviction on the minor crime will be a problem with your visa. I do have a book on this topic also, though, which spells out some ways that you can make sure that it does not present a problem. The book is only $7.99 and can be downloaded immediately upon payment. Check it here: I have a conviction, can I still get a visa?
Regarding the coupon, yes, no problem on Saturday. I have changed it so that it will work for you on Saturday.
Thanks a lot buddy, have about 3 books now i want to purchase from your site, wish i never looked!
Hi Bob, sorry i am late didnt get paid correctly, i am interested in buying the book now does any kind of offer still stand?
Thanks buddy
Yes, Liam. I just activated the coupon code for you, it should work fine.
Just purchased, going to give it a read now, thanks
Thank you Liam. If you have fox questions just email me.
hi bob i been reading your blog ,im about to send my wife [philippino ]to samal or davao to buy land and build nipa hut resteraunt or a store suplyes ,hoping she makes a living ,i figure $10,000 to $30,000 AU i can fund and stock etc shes a cook and philippino and knows how things work .?.i heard of many bad stories of westerner people leaving there broke ,losing thousands $..
can not survive ,,if i buy a hectare of land with fruit , pigs, i can survive ,what do you think ..coffeeray8@gmail.com
Hi Ray – Thanks for your comment. Personally, I don’t feel that your plan will work too well, but of course that is only my opinion. There is a lot of competition in the type of business you mention. What you heard is correct.. a lot of people move here and find out that their plan was not sound, and end up losing plenty of money and not enjoying their life here.
What I advocate is to earn your money from elsewhere in the world, but live here where that money goes further. For instance, I earn my money from clients based in the USA, Australia and Europe for the most part, yet I live in the Philippines. I earn a good living by western standards, yet I live where life is cheaper. It’s a great combination.
Good luck to you, though. Whatever you decide to do, I hope that it leads to a comfortable life for you.
Hi Bob,
want to order the book! can I send western union?
Nathan
Nathan – I just sent you a private e-mail with Western Union information. Thank you for your interest.
