Lately I have been having a lot of questions from people asking me when I was going to do another podcast! I stopped doing them some time back for a couple of reasons. Firstly, I did not think that many people were listing. Secondly, this might the reason that fewer people were listening, a lot […]
Hmm… yellow with green trim? Not so pleasant to the eyes in my opinion… We found this jeep parked outside a furniture store, it’s possible that someone rented it to transport something. It is common in the Philippines that if you need something big to be hauled for you, just hail a jeepney driver and […]
The other day I got an email from an old friend that I had not heard from in several years. He had moved to the Philippines several years ago. When he moved here, he shipped his stuff here in Balikbayan Boxes. It is cheap to ship Balikbayan Boxes from the States to the Philippines, or […]
I get a lot of questions about healthcare coverage in the Philippines. The majority of questions that I get are related to PhilHealth, the Philippine Government Healthcare Insurance plan. Today, I thought that I would update a few things about some changes coming in PhilHealth, and other information that has been around for a while, […]
This jeepney’s is in the rural Davao area of Mandug. Mandug is out of town, on the way to Lapanday. There used to be a lot of banana plantations out in that area, but not so much now. A few years back, Davao City passed ordinances against using Arial spraying of pesticides on bananas, as an […]
Well, it is already March! That means a couple of things that are different here than in other parts of the world!
Firstly, it is now summer! That’s right, it is summer in the Philippines! Summer here starts in March and runs through around the beginning to middle of June. That means that school is out for the year, and a new school year will be starting in June.
When the kids are home from school, other things change in the Philippines too! For one thing, the Internet changes a lot! The Internet? You are probably wondering what changes about the Internet. Well, like I said, starting this month, the kids are out of school. They are home all day, or if not at home a lot of them are in Internet Cafes around the country. Imaging thousands (millions?) of kids playing bandwidth intensive computer games all around the country! Well, imagine further just how much of the (already limited) Philippine Internet bandwidth is consumed by those kids all playing video games! Let me just say that for those in the Philippines who already have a troublesome Internet connection, it can become almost unusable during the summer months.
