Not really. Today was my brother’s report card day at school, and since Mom was out of town, I went to his school to get the card. It’s been a while since I’ve been there, I’ve passed by it quite a few times, but I was interested in the changes since I was inside last.
I was actually gonna go to my brother’s last card day since I knew his moderator (teacher in charge of the class), she was actually my 3rd year moderator. I didn’t get to go last time though, so I’m glad I got to go today. Since the school is really close, it was a short tricycle ride over. The school is pretty big, it has 3 main sections, the high school, which is a 5 story building with a smaller 2 story section attached. The 5 story building has a floor for each year (1-4) and 1 for the teachers, the smaller building is for administrative purposes, and a chapel and the library on the second floor. The sports complex, which is 4 stories high and is open, so it doesn’t have walls, it has a bunch of basketball courts under it, a stage for various events, 2 canteens (one for the high school, another for the grade school) and a bunch of rooms from the second floor up for different stuff like music, clubs, you get the idea. It also has a soccer field/running track near it. The last section is the grade school buildings. It’s been awhile since I last went there but each grade has a building, although 3rd grade shares with kindergarten and 2nd grade shares with 1st grade. There’s also a building for the library, another for the IT and AV rooms and a swimming pool (which I didn’t get to use).
Me and my brother get to the school and immediately go to the 3rd floor, where his classroom is. We go inside and immediately I notice a bunch of changes. For starters, they now have a projector, before, we’d either have to go to one of the AV rooms or get an AV cart which has a projector. The projector is attached to a wall and faces the whiteboard, which is another change. We used to have blackboards which made the room dusty because of all the chalk dust. One smaller change was the color of the walls, which went from white to a beige. I really liked it, it made it more welcoming instead of the boring white which I feel made the classrooms bland and uninteresting. Aside from that, the classrooms were pretty much the same.
Anyway, we get the card, I get to see my old teacher and since there were a bunch of other people waiting, we had to cut it short. Instead of going home immediately, we decide to go around, maybe find some other teachers that I know. Going around, there weren’t too many other changes, until we get to a small nook in the hallways where there’s a view of the grounds and some railing. Me and my friends used to spend a lot of time at one of these nooks because our classroom was right next to one. Now though, there are gates that block them because they added fire exits. Kinda sucks, but it does make the school safer. We go through each floor where the non-moderator teachers are talking to parents/guardians. I didn’t recognize any of them, which kinda sucked, but oh well.
We decide to go around the library to a staircase behind it that leads to the admin part and the chapel. This staircase is weird cause during card days, all other stairs are blocked by guards to keep students out (only those with their parents/guardians can go up), but this staircase is always open, even back when I was in school. Anyway, we go down, and not much change in that part. After a short walk back to the gate we leave.
Overall it was cool to see the school again, but it’s kinda cool to see the changes and compare them to when I was there.
