Property Ownership in the Philippines
A big discussion on this website over the years has been focused on whether it is best to buy property or rent property when living in the Philippines. There are advocates for either side of the argument.
Foreigners are not allowed to own real property in the Philippines. So, you cannot buy land here if you are not a Natural Born Philippine Citizen. Now, if your spouse is a Filipino, then you can own a house here, although it will not be in your name, only in your spouses name. That can present an entirely different set of problems, but does offer a potential solution.
Foreigners CAN, however, own a condo unit, so that is another thing to keep in mind.
On the other hand, rental prices are very reasonable in the Philippines, so you can often rent for less than buying.
The archived articles below explore the subject and will help you understand the dilemma.

It’s been ten years since our house was painted last and the mold and sun has taken the luster off the rose. Last year when we tiled the front of the house it looked good, until your eyes looked up and saw the rest of the joint. So I guess it’s time, oh hell I’m […]
When we built our house in 1999 I wanted a slab roof as they tend not to blow away during Typhoons, this I learned in Florida and Puerto Rico by just looking around after a hurricanes and seeing who had a roof and whom didn’t. With a slab roof there will be other concerns such […]
