Greetings to all the readers or the Liveinthephilippines Magazine both past and present. My name is Chris Dearne, I am British and I live in General Santos City in the Philippines, a wonderful little place!
I used to write on here before but a little over 3 years ago I was in the middle of writing an article and that’s as far as I got with it, maybe half finished! I do not know why my brain just went out of writing mode but it just did so I am sure that it was telling me that I needed a rest from writing! The same type of thing happened to me some years ago but this time I was reading a novel which I used to do very regularly but on one day, again I was half way through reading the novel when I put it down to eat or something and I never picked it up again in order to finish reading it!
I do not know weather it is just me who tends to just stop what I am doing with no apparent reason but I am quite sure that I am not the only one world with the oops, that’s enough for now syndrome and I hope that it has finished for me for now!
Over the last 3 years there have been a few changes in our lifestyles out here, several because of what they call progress and others which are natural and come with time itself. I will expand on these topics in the near future!
I am slowing down on my SCUBA activities as I am getting a bit older, approaching 65 in August and my Knees remind me of my age on a daily basis especially on stairs! My dear wife Ellie is approaching 75 next month and can still out work the best Irish Laborer when it comes to working in the garden. Unfortunately the hot and dry weather has not been kind to Ellie as her garden is really dry and lots of trees have dried and died!
General Santos City is still expanding in all forms but to be honest much of this expansion will not really be good for the future of the city as it overkill once again! The fishing industry is not doing too good as the quality of good export quality fish is well down due to over fishing!
Our new and modern Coal Fired Power Station is now up and running, it does not seem to put out much visible pollution but the coral reef fronting it has been totally destroyed so the Marine Environment has paid a high price in order to enrich the big boys!
I think that is all for now on this opening article, I have much more to publish in the near future but I am just practicing and getting back into the swing of writing once again! I hope you enjoy this new beginning!
