About a week ago, I managed to get a cold. It only lasted a few days, but those few days really sucked. I don’t get sick often, but when I do, it’s usually pretty bad. There were a few ways I could have caught it. My Grandma thinks I got it when I went to the store a few days before, but I think I got it when I (unwisely) went outside to grab or check something barefoot and without a good jacket on.
The night I got sick, I went to bed a bit early and couldn’t sleep because I had the shakes really bad. After a few hours of sleeping, I actually had to get up and go to the bathroom to throw up. Most of the night was actually spent either sleeping for short periods of time or on my phone surfing Reddit and Youtube, although at first i didn’t want anything to do qith Youtube because the noise would make my head ache, same went for music, which I usually listen to when going to bed. Over the next couple days that was pretty much what I did, just stay in bed and wait for it to go away. The only times I actually got up were to get something to drink or to go to the bathroom, anything else had to wait because whenever I got up I would have a really bad headache and feel nauseous. I almost always sleep with my window open a bit, it gives some airflow in my room and I like to sleep in a cold room. When I was sick however, I forgot to close it and throughout the night I could feel the air come down and just give me chills. Regardless of how many blankets I had, I would still be cold, and because I was light-headed and nauseous, standing up to close it was a chore. I just find it funny now.
Whenever someone got sick at home in the Philippines, since there were a lot of people in the house, we’d all be careful not to catch it, but most times, someone would end up catching it and for weeks at a time there’d be someone sick int he house. Here, when I was sick, I still had to be very careful because even though there are only 2 of us, my Grandma isn’t young and getting sick is really bad for her. Living in the Philippines for basically my whole life, I guess it would make sense that I would occasionally get sick here because my body wouldn’t be used to it here. There are different illnesses that are common in each country, like how dengue is very common in the Philippines because of all the mosquitoes there, while here where I live, there aren’t too many mosquitoes so dengue isn’t really a threat. Overall, an unpleasant experience, lol. I’m glad it only lasted a few days, although a few things like the head ache did go on for a couple days more.
