Good evening! Yes, it is evening and I have just uploaded a number of articles I wrote over the last several months since coming to the Philippines. Internet access is wonderful! Some articles I wrote months ago I no longer find relevant, so they won’t be submitted. I’ll be writing fresh articles for submission and for your reading pleasure.
Today though, I am writing about finding help. It’s hard to find. Not that there are not plenty of good people to work for me. It is just that they are difficult to locate, and even more difficult to get onto their schedule.
Since finding this rental, I’ve put some money into making it more like what I am used to, including additional cabinets and shelves in the kitchen, painting the interior for easy cleaning and nicer appearance, a new American style toilet, and also some nice siwali (not sure on spelling) in the garage to reduce dust and keep out prying eyes.
Now though, I want to finish the third bedroom which only had bare walls and no tiling on the floor. Up until two days ago it had our Balikbayan boxes stacked in there. Waiting for a place for the items to be put for ease of access and use. So, the third bedroom, when finished, will be my office and storage for extra household items. My problem? Where is my contractor!?
Well, it seems that he is in high demand. He’s been out of town for a couple of months working, and now that he is back I want him to finish the room, and make me some nice shelving to keep all our items organized and accessible. I saw him last week and he said he would be back here Monday and would come to the house to work. But, it is now Tuesday night, and he is nowhere to be seen. So, I just sent my wife and brother-in-law on a mission to find him and ask if he will be coming to do the work. He does good work, and I can’t complain about his prices either. So, obviously, I want him to return here to finish our house to make it our home.
So, sometimes finding a good contractor is hard… but finding a good contractor that is available, able and willing to show up for work, is yet another story.
Hopefully the outcome will be mutually beneficial and my last remaining room of the house will be finished and my office can be relocated out of the living room.
Until next time, paalam, ingat, and God bless!
