This week in driver’s ed, we had a class on buying cars, insuring them, credit scores, etc. We were asked to select a car from some used car magazines handed out that we would buy (I chose a 94 Nissan Sentra if anyone asks). After that, we had to calculate interest and all that. At first, I didn’t know a lot of what they were talking about, particularly credit scores, I’ve heard it on TV here, but I’ve never encountered it in the Philippines, but after a bit, I thought that it’s a huge deal here. The example interest rates were 6% and 28%, one of my classmates even had a brother that had a 30% interest rate. Anyway, after calculating how much interest we pay, I found that if I had an interest rate of 28%, I would end up paying more in interest than for the car, $7000 for a $5000 car over 5 years. I don’t think I’d like that.
A couple nights ago, I was on Reddit and found a post about personal finances which led to an FAQ about finances which led to an article about emergency funds and all that. Of course, this got me thinking about my future and how I have absolutely no plans. I mean, I didn’t even plan on what to write about this week, my Dad suggested an article about my future plans, then I remembered the class and the Reddit post. So if I can’t even plan my week out and what to write about, how can I plan out my life? Then again, I guess that’s what us teens do, we tend to live in the now.
I’m honestly not sure what I’d like to do. A lot of people say I should get a job involving computers, problem is, there are tons of jobs that involve computers, and I’m not exactly sure how to start. I like to think I’m pretty good on the hardware side, and the first thing that comes to mind is building computers for people, which is a possibility, but I don’t think the demand is there, especially with internet cafes in the Philippines. I’ve also been looking to learn how to code, but obviously it would take time, and I mean a lot of time and a lot of patience. My best bet, I think, right now would be graphic design, it’s easy, doesn’t take much time and is fairly simple to learn, and I’ve already been kinda doing it. Aside from that, I have absolutely no idea what else. Of course, if I find a job testing video games or cars or something, that would be great… Hold on, isn’t Top Gear holding auditions? Just kidding, haha. Thanks to some friends of my Grandma, I have a job lined up, but it won’t last long since I’ll be going back to the Philippines.
So I guess that’s that, still kinda indecisive, but I’ll figure it out eventually. A lot of people tell me that I’m still very young and have my whole life in front of me, and that I’ll eventually get it, just don’t worry about it too much and have fun, and right now, I’m kinda inclined to follow that advice, haha.
