You know you are Filipino if

When I was in Iloilo a couple of weeks ago, we all went to a very nice restaurant that seemed to cater for most nationalities at a very affordable price. While sitting and waiting for the food we all started to read the place mats and independently we all began to laugh.

My Filipino friends said that they recognized a lot of themselves in the observations written on the place mats, and myself and the my British friend admitted that we could see the traits too!!

Even after asking the waiters we could not find the name of the author of the work , but whoever it was has a good sense of humor and observation.

Steve with the BBC voice reads it out now on the podcast link below.  ENJOY!!

Podcast: Bob & Feyma

That’s right, folks, today I am bringing you a new Podcast!  Yes, it has been many, many months since my last Podcast, but I decided that I wanted to do a new one today, and wanted to do it with Feyma.  So, for today’s Podcast, Feyma and I talk about our decision to move to and live in the Philippines.

Bob & Feyma Podcast

Making the move to the Philippines was a major life decision for us, and it was not an easy decision for Feyma to make.  It took probably a year or so of me talking about making such a move before Feyma decided to give her go-ahead.  You know, such a decision cannot really be made without the approval from the “Big Boss” if you know what I mean (all of you guys understand, I am sure!).

So, without further fanfare, here is the Podcast with Feyma and myself.

The following conversation between myself and Steve about what he loves and misses, but also what he maybe does not miss too.

Lets talk Supermarkets and TV and the passion for the people of the Philippines.

I remember when I was a kid i use to watch Star Trek and being amazed at the pretend communication systems that meant Kirk could speak into a handheld device and it was transmitted in real time across the universe, even with video feed.  WOW.

Well last week I managed to Star Trek too by using Skype and recording a podcast with me in Davao City and Migs in Manila and honestly the quality of sound was like he was in the same room too.

Now this gives me an idea how about some of you contacting me who would like to appear on a podcast either in sound or vision.

Come on get in touch lets chat and tell the world.

Another podcast from John and Migs this week! Here is what John has to say:

Today’s podcast again includes our good friend and Manila correspondent Migs who tells us all about the perceived jealousy that we the so called westerners  encounter from  Filipino partners and friends, not just in relationships but in everyday life too..

As Migs explains although this may be true its the flip side of devotion and love that is given.

How can you argue with that???

For today’s Podcast, LiP writers John Grant and Migs Bassig have a wide ranging discussion regarding the differences between Davao and Manila.  It’s an interesting discussion, especially since Migs is from Manila and he recently has been spending some time in Davao, so he has some interesting insights into the differences you will experience between the two places.

As you recall, last week John Grant had an interview with Ryan, a victim of child abuse here in the Philippines.  Today, John continues the Podcast with Part 2 of the Interview.

Don’t miss listening to this report that is emotional, yet true.  A true depiction of child abuse here in the Philippines.

Child abuse

On the podcast section of this website I have posted two podcasts from someone who I have named Ryan who tells us about some of the torturous childhood he had to endure.

Regular beatings, being tied up  like a dog naked in public, made to go without food and essential medicine whilst his “parents” and carers take his money for drinking and cigarettes. He has endured a life that shocks me and makes me openly weep out loud as he tells me so much, MOST of which I cannot broadcast.

His name is NOT Ryan, but he has been a good friend to me for over a year and I always admire his smile and determination to improve his life. I am lucky he calls me dad and cuddles me most days and even tells his friends that he has a “dad” for the first time in his life.

Now he has packed a small bag and is trying to better himself by going to CEBU for a year. I wish him luck and my god he deserves it. My door is always open to  him when and if he needs to return.

While so many of us who participate on this website tend to glorify the Philippines, and love the place very much, we always have to remember that no place is perfect.

For today’s Podcast, John Grant interviews “Ryan” about his years of child abuse at the hands of his mother and father here in the Philippines.

Give it a listen, and see what you think!

Today, John Grant hosts the Live in the Philippines Podcast!  John has a really interesting interview with a former Overseas Filipino Worker about his life working overseas, his return to the Philippines and such.  It is an interesting and eye opening conversation, so don’t miss it.

I would like to thank John for making the effort to put together a Podcast for the site!  I look forward to more in the future!
