Nice people
Today we met up with our new friends who live in Cagayan de Oro. They came here to Davao for a speaking engagement. Both husband and wife are Americans who live here as missionaries. They really are nice people. We met up with them today to have lunch at Swiss Deli, a nice western restaurant here in Davao. They have been missionaries here for almost 20 years now. They lived mostly in different parts of Mindanao. One thing that I am so amazed with them both they speak bisaya fluently, even the grammar was nearly perfect. I really felt they speak good bisaya like the local people here. They told us out of their seven kids four of them can speak good bisaya because those kids where still young when they moved to lived here. The other 3 kids can understand but can’t speak well. They said when they go to the States and shop in the store there most of the time they will speak bisaya, especially if they are talking or making tsismis.
I think Bob was kind of motivated to learn again on his bisaya lesson upon hearing our friends. He speaks and understands a little bit of bisaya right now. His been wanting to learn to speak good bisaya for quiet awhile now. He just so busy with work though. We have some problems with our kids. When they know that Bob was trying to learn to speak bisaya they dodn’t like it, they want to have power over their Dad. They want that Bob doesn’t know what they are talking about. Sometimes they would try to speak a little of bisaya to their Dad. They would help Bob sometimes in the store too, especially some salesperson has a hard time understanding what Bob was talking about. I hope someday that Bob can speak more, I know he is really trying to speak more and more.
To all of you that’s trying to learn bisaya or tagalog good luck.

Hey! Now I find my name in your blog! We had a nice time too, it was really fun to have lunch with you! I hope we can get together more often, and look forward to the next time you visit Cagayan de Oro! Thanks for your kind comments about our Bisaya! We still make mistakes, but the nice thing is that people usually understand what we are trying to say! :-0 It is not an easy language, but the effort has been well rewarded.
Hi Ken- Wow that would be hard learning two dialect at the same time. I salute your teacher. Goodluck to you on your language studies.
Hi AmericanLola- For sure we will see you guys in CDO. Your bisaya dialect really is good, nobody will notice if you made mistakes in speaking. Salamat kaayo. See you soon.
