Philippine Traditional Therapy for Dengue Fever
Dengue hemorrhagic fever is one of the most dreadful diseases in tropical countries, which is caused by a virus carried via mosquito bites. Dengue brings about hemorrhaging of the internal organs to a point that it causes death. Western medicine or common hospitals do not have any cure for Dengue. Doctors even say that their treatment is just supportive and all you need is to pray that the victim is strong enough.
As I wrote in my last article, I was suffering for Dengue fever for a couple of weeks. I first thought it was only a simple cold. Even when I first went to see a doctor, the doctor diagnosed my sickness as flu.
However, the fever did not go down for 7 days and I had a medical check up, including a blood test. At that time when I arrived at the hospital, my fever had already become low. But the most dangerous period of Dengue hemorrhagic fever will come after body temperature becomes normal. I got a rash on my both arms, which showed me outward sign of internal hemorrhage.
The blood test indicated that the platelet count in my blood was abnormally low. It was around 100 and the doctor said that I need a blood transfusion if it goes below 30. And I was admitted to the hospital. The normal platelet count is above 150, according to the internist. My platelets were keeping on decreasing slowly but surely at that time.
Few days after, my platelet count reads 60 and I started thinking of blood transfusion. I was so depressed that I even thought about the risk of getting HIV or Hepatitis C by blood transfusion. (I found out later depression is one of the common symptoms of Dengue fever.)
So, I had almost prepared myself for blood transfusion by the time my Filipino friend visited me. She showed up in the evening and gave me some tea called “Tawa Tawa”. She said Tawa Tawa is the best cure for Dengue fever. I did not believe the traditional therapy first. Nevertheless I decided to drink the tea because I did not have anything to do, and I knew even doctors would give me nothing but intravenous glucose.
And a miracle happened. When I had the same blood test in the following day, I was really surprised that my platelet count had increased!
So, all you need is this - When in the Philippines, do as the Filipinos do.

Recipe for curing Dengue Fever using Tawa Tawa weeds is as follows:
· Take 5 to 6 full whole Tawa Tawa plants.
· Cut off the roots
· Wash and clean
· Fill your boiling pot with clean water.
· Boil the Tawa Tawa for 1 (one) minute in a slow rolling boil.
· Pour the tawa tawa water and let cool.
· Let the dengue fever victim drink only the tawa tawa water for 24 hours.
· Sip 1 to 1.5 glasses of tawa tawa water every 1 hour

(TAWA TAWA)
By the way, you have to have a blood test every 6 hours if you get Dengue. In my case, I got more than 15 holes in my arms. Hey, doctor. Don’t sting me more than mosquitoes do!

< ![CDATA[Yes, Ichi, tawa-tawa does seem to be a real cure for dengue! Many doctors even ask the relatives to bring it to the hospital. There is not much else you can do, except rest and monitor the blood count. Rest is important because the spleen is enlarged and there is a risk of injury if you are active. Thanks for giving the recipe!]]>
< ![CDATA[Hi ichi and American Lola, I wish to read more comments. I only can agree: me myself took tawa-tawa, coz it's growing in our compound at many places. We also gave it to my niece and nephew, while staying in the hospital. Both are fine now and we try our best to eliminate all chances for these "devil animals" to grow and spread...]]>
< ![CDATA[Tawa Tawa does work.
I got dengue last year and was SO SICK! I did not want to go to hopsital as I did not want to drop dead (I heard most who wemt to hospital died anyway)
Our nanny (Ok so i'm 28) made me like 6 huge glasses of tawa tawa everyday and made me drink it.
DISGUSTING STUFF!
But I was ok after like 3 or 4 days of drinking that VILE concoction.
It TASTES BETTER if you out in some calamansi and sugar (ok splenda works too)]]>
< ![CDATA[Hi Ichi it's good if there is tawa tawa for dengue fever.
Ichi I hope you no have again dengue fever.
Thangs for giving the recipe of tawa tawa for dengue fever.]]>
< ![CDATA[Damn mosquitoes!! I am just getting over dengue - our stories are similar... I really did not realize how serious the disease was until I did some research... I was in and out of the hospital getting my blood drawn 2 times a day. My platlet levels were fluctuating.. One of my employees brought me some of the tawa tawa root and it honestly did improve my state. If you have never had dengue, trust me you do not want to get it... 105 degree fever - pain in your joints - cramps in your legs - pain in your eyes... a horrible rash - it is horrible. The only other time i was in more pain and more miserable is when I had Mono...]]>
< ![CDATA[question: once you get dengue are you immune to that particular strain??]]>
< ![CDATA[I had Dengue Fever last year around March and it is no picnic. Just like you I didn't want to goto the hospital until I was forced to by my in-laws. The platelet count at that time was 100 and over the course of 2 weeks in the hospital it dropped to a low of 35 before bouncing back to 80. I was taking the tea the whole time but it didn't seem to be effective to me. However this was also the time my wife was on her Goji Juice kick and was making me take that worthless stuff at the same time. Turns out Goji lowers your platelets so is the worst thing to take with Dengue. Yes you are immune to that strain after havng it, that's the good news... the bad news is the immunity wears off after 4 years or so. Strain 1 is common Dengue and is what 90% of people catch, it doesn't have a particularly high mortality rate, but is nasty to have to live through. Strain 2 is dengue hemmoragic fever and is much ore dangerous. It has a 30% mortality rate mostly from shock due to rapid blood loss. Having had Strain 1 does not make you immune to strain 2, also if you catch strain 2 within a year of recovering from strain 1 the mortality rate soars to 80%. I cannot stress enough the need to take precautions against mosquitoes.]]>
< ![CDATA[Perhaps this is a silly question but can the "tea" be taken as a preventative too?
Also where can you buy that tea as I think the longer I am here the shorter the odds are of getting the dreaded Dengue.
Ichi I think I saw you drinking at COFFEE DREAM in DAMOSA, would that be you?]]>
< ![CDATA[Ichi,
Glad to hear you are better.]]>
< ![CDATA[Hi Kevin!
I'm ok but too busy for a pile of work!
I even did not have time to respond...

Hi John!
Was that you?!
I didn't expect that was you!
Yeah, I was there having a meeting with another Japanese guy.
I think it was on Saturday, right?
Let's talk next time we meet in the coffee shop.
By the way, Tawa Tawa does not work as a preventative medicine.
That's too bad.

Hi Louis!
Thank you for the detailed information!
There were many things that I didnt know in your comment.
Thank you so much.
I was not able to answer the question of zois since I was too busy.

Hi brian!
I heard there are 4 tipes of Dengue mosquitos and they all have different viruses.
So it means you are not immune to different strains even you got one of them...
I still have 3 strains that I have to be aware of!
********************************************
Hi B Dub!
Now I remember that I had pain in my eyes deep inside...
I didnt realize it was because of Dengue at that time.
Did you also have a kind of depression?
*********************************************
Hi Zois!
I swear it works well.
Try it if you get Dengue.Hehehe.
Hope you don't get it.

Hi Cheryl Ann!
Calamanci and sugar!
I should have tried it although I even didn't have a power to think of it.

Hi Klaus!
It took long time to respond your comments.
But I believe the comments of other readers satisfied you, didn't they?
I learned a lot.

Hi American Lola.
I think you have a lot of secret recipes.
Because LOLAs always have a pearls of wisdom.
Please share them with us someday!]]>
< ![CDATA[Hi Miyake san! Bob just told me that he has a Japanese friend who is co-blogging here at this site.
My name is Anthony, a Japanese, living in Tokyo, and I have got some of my family members living in Davao City.
I wonder how long you've been in Davao and what you're up to there because it's quite rare to find a young Japanese fellow like you living there...
I am glad to know that you're well now, and hope you're immune for life! Keep up!
Blessings,
Anthony]]>

< ![CDATA[Can dengue fever be caught from the city proper Or more likey to be caught in the provinces? I know more likely around still water ponds etc I know when I 1st went to the Philippines i use to get bit alot but after i stayed there for a while the pesky mosqs use to leave me alone. Does your body get immune to bites or something?
i have had times when i have been ill there, once after playing around of golf and having refreshments at the 19th hole i think maybe there were too many flies around I came down with hot and cold chills that lasted a few weeks but cleared up. Another time i had the something similar while sleeping on the beach overnight on samal. There i recal being bit to death it seemed! never again!]]>
< ![CDATA[North America has its version of Deque, West Nile Virus. I believe equally deadly if your immune system is weak.]]>
< ![CDATA[Graham - you can get it anywhere, I got my Dengue from Manila.
I was in Manila a few days and 1 day after I came home, the fever started - dengue has a holding period whatever you call it for 3-7 days. It's only after 3-7 days of being bitten do you get sick...
This was my 2nd dengue episode.
My first episode was when I was 7 or 8 years old and I got bitten at school Stella Maris... the other child who got dengue DIED.
On my first dengue episode I was TOTALLY sick, it was worse then the 2nd episode. On the first Dengue fever I had I was given vile concoction sof Chinese Medicine. I guess it worked as I am still alive and kicking.]]>
< ![CDATA[dont scare me Cheryll ]]>
< ![CDATA[yup, tawa-tawa equals dengue.
i drank it when i had the fever too, six years ago. and i was hospitalized and all, just like you.
i thought you'd hesitate on drinking it since you're a foreigner and all,
but hey, just like you said, "do as the pinoys do."
lucky kuroda sensei brought you the drink noh?]]>
< ![CDATA[Hi Ichi,
I was researching about Dengue fever online when I came across your post. My 8 year old nephew is at Dvo Doctor's Hospital now for the same illness. His platelet was 131 yesterday. We gave him the tawa-tawa tea and I think it's helping because as of 2pm today, his platelet went up to 139.
It's just scary for all of us because obviously there's no antibiotic or medicinal cure for dengue fever. His doctor is just observing the platelet count and then the nurse gives him paracetamol. He's on dextrose as well.
I'm hoping that the tawa-tawa will help him also the way it helped you.
Thanks for the sharing. It somehow lessened the fear on my part.
