In my report last week I told you about the charity operating in Davao for children in the slum areas of Davao. This week I will tell you about another project by the SAME charity this time operating in PANACAN.

This time its for boys 14-17 who have been in prison, or drug addicts or even those who were marked for “disappearance”.

Look at the picture and look into those boys eyes and tell me if you see that! When I visited I was so impressed that these boys about fourteen of them who live in a dormitory style building in a tight group, they now go to school, they cook for themselves and help in many chores including growing produce and tending to a piggery.

Again this is financed in TOTAL by one man, yes the same man built this place himself and the school in DAVAO and finances EVERYTHING!. Although its a charity he has never had any money donated, because he never asks!!! And he does not want to advertise himself, he just wants to help these boys.

The boys also have private tuition in the evening before lights out at 10pm, they have few books and live in staff mostly unpaid make sure all the boys are taken care of.

Dennis a local businessman dedicates many days a week as a houseparent to the boys whos challenging past history is now becoming a thing of the past,. As they wear the uniform (they only have one ) you cannot see the suffering these boys have been through or the things those eyes have seen in their short lives, imagine prison and what happened to them and how they now thrive in school and have set goals for a new life and a great chance to help change others too.

Watch the short video clip.

    Hi John,

Thanks for sharing! When I read about foreigners doing these selfless acts for my fellow Filipinos, it is both humbling and inspiring to me. Next time I visit Davao, I would like to visit these places you featured, John. Will you take me there?

    Hi John:
Thank you for featuring this charity. I’m curious, why did he choose Davao or Panacan? Is there a special tie to him ? Thanks.

Thanks for such a nice reply, I have to tell you when i was there I was very moved by the politeness of the boys and when I was told some of what they had endured it made me realise that my problems mean very little in comparison.
I will of course reply to you and meet you and please give me a few days as my friend does not have internet! and hates mobile phones, honest!

    Tina
Yes of course I will try and arrange let me know when you are coming jgrant8165@yahoo.co.uk

The main reason was that my friend and Dennis live in the locality and were able to pull strings to get the lands, in honesty I have asked if he had the funds would he expand to other areas, he had never considered it . He is totaly focused on the individuals and never has a MASTER plan
