Happy Anniversary
I am a very lucky man to have made fantastic friends in Davao City from all across the world.
My German friend and fellow LIP columnist is one of those along with his beautiful wife Rose, whom this week have celebrated 25 years of wedded bless. I was very lucky to be able to attend a celebration at their beautiful home, which by coincidence is six metres away from me.
Along with Klaus beautiful mother Mutti and his his godfather Maurice a very very long-term resident of Mindanao and his wife Alicia Cowan were also in attendance who also live above me, and I never knew that was Klaus godfather.
Many of the German community were in attendance and despite my best attempts to speak German I failed badly.
Here is a short film of the event.

Happy Anniversary Klaus! Great job on the video John.
Hi John
How are you doing? Tell me, in that video of Klaus` party, did I see Maurice Cowan standing next to Klaus, he is an American guy from Washington DC I think. I knew him years ago in Davao. Please let me know
All the best
Malcolm (UK)
You are very correct that was Maurice Cowan in the video who is now 85 years old and still enjoys a good whisky every night before bed. Maurice lives in the same complex as myself and I often see him having his daily swim. I have only spoken to him a few times but its obvious he is a Man who loves this country, and I think I am correct in saying he has been here over 50 years. It is said he is the longest serving American in Mndanao.
Let me know more about him. I hope on day to interview him for this website, but I get the impression he is very private and modest too.
Happy anniversary, Klaus!
Happy Silver Anniversary, Klaus & Rose!
The two of you look perfect together - and such graceful dancers! Will I be seeing you in the ballroom dancing places in Davao?
John, thanks for sharing!
Hi John
Please remember me to Maurice and give him my E mail address if he wants to write to me. He was the manager of Tag Fiber down there in Sasa till it closed down in about 1992 I think and in our early married days he helped me and my wife quite a lot, he is a really nice guy and used to have a huge ape as a pet. Please let him know that I remember him
Thank you
Malcolm
Hi my very good friend John, thank you very much for your kind words, for the friendship and for the wonderful video. Yeah, it was really a great day, and maybe that’s what I also would describe as “luck”: such people around me makes living in the Philippines easy and comfortable. Thank you John for the kind words: same here back to you!
Hi David S. - thank you very much!
Hi Malcolm - THANKS. Yeah I really admire Maurice and Alicia. When I visited Davao City 1982 for the first time, it was an coincident meeting them. They bought the neighbour lot, where I am living now already in 1959. They took me to many places in Mindanao, and no question to ask them to be NINONG and NINANG in 1983.
Hi Migs - also here on John’s blog THANK YOU VERY MUCH for your anniversary greetings.
Hi Tina, also to you: THANK YOU VERY MUCH for your greetings and compliment. Actually I am not such a good dancer - I am more on listening and making music, so you wouldn’t find us in ballroom places in Davao City. I am more on listening and making music, but I adopted the love for dance because of Rose. She was a professional dancer since 1979 and got a lot of performances with the MANISAN DANCER’s headed by her uncle Nick Balcom. Later during Rose’s TV-show she also performed modern dances.
