Food glorious food

I have to admit it for the first time I am so homesick for the UK and for one reason only the food. My friend Steve is in the UK now after many months here in Davao City.

Everyday we speak on SKYPE and he tells me all about the food his friend have cooked the traditional English Roast with perfect Roast Potatoes and gravy. (Yes I did spell potatoes correct). He then tells me he went to a local fantastic Indian restaurant and enjoyed a plateful of heaven tastes and smells.

Last week he went to a Chinese restaurant and filled his face with amazing food.

Not only that he tells me all about the supermarkets full to the brim with the hundreds of things I just cannot get here.

Big selection of Cheeses, pies, breads all the cuts of meat and the pickles and sauces that I have had to go without for nearly two years. My saliva glands are drooling even as I write this.

So I am going to get a box of non perishable foods packed in the UK and treat myself to some English produce and sit down in front of my Pnoy friends and watch their faces as I tuck into strange foods from their point of view.

For the English guys I am thinking of HP SAUCE, BRANSTON PICKLES, ENGLISH MUSTARDS, CUSTARD POWDERS, ANGEL DELIGHTS, BISCUITS!!!!!!

Anybody want to suggest what I put in the box?

Hi John. Bob is scratching is head over Spotted Dick. I wonder what he would scratch over Toad inthe Hole or Jellied Eilles.Or a nice toasted bacon butty from the local greassy spoon washed down with a gallon mug of rosey lee. Yes Bob we are still talking English. If steve goes to the local food wholesaler he can pick up a 5 litre contaier of H P SAUCE for about 8 quid.I have a friend here in South Africa imports and retails all theses products you mention . He makes a good living.

Hi John, let’s see if our brethren can figure out that we eat squash, play squash and love to drink squash, but be careful you can put on a stone doing so.

John: my travels frequently take me to the UK, and, I have to admit, British food tends to give me a belly ache after a few days (mainly because it is often “heavt”). That being said, how could you even consider packing a box without at least a few cans of good English bitter or stout??? Come to think of it, after about 12 pints and a curry or two, that coulod explain a belly ache, I think!!! Love the oatmeal stout! A wheel of cheese would be good if you keep the wheel whole. Something like a stilton, if a bit smelly. Too bad some clotted cream wouldn’t travel… Nothing like the real thing with the butter crust. Lemon curd!!!! That’s another good one.

Hey John - When Steve sends that box of goodies, will you invite me over to partake in the fun? Please?

    Hi John,
just be careful what you put on the import paperwork, you could be paying 48% import duty like I did for my used, personal items when I moved here to Davao in December 2007
