Pigs life
As a lifetime city boy I still find it strange to see such livestock walking and making noises around my City here in the Philippines, at first its great to have that rural feel within the City but as mentioned a few hundred times before it can be frustrating to not sleep because of the constant wildlife that refuses to sleep the western times.
Now I used to be a butcher longtime ago but even then I would cut up the carcass of the Pigs that in most cases had been cleaned up before arriving on my butchers table, even in most cases the eyes are removed.
Here I get graphic details of a different treatment as I often have to share a meal table with a decapitated Pigs head eyes looking at me as I eat him.
“I hope you are enjoying my body and it was worth my death!!” i HEAR IT SAY.
Even before its inevitable death I pass many Pigs on my walks each day who’s eyes look at me with that stare of foreboding. I have seen alive and dead pigs being transported on motorbikes, Jeeps and even on top of cars, those who are alive are normally tied so tight that they must almost be pre roasting in the Sun.
Now I can block most of this from my mind when I tuck into a Pig roast or a juicy Bacon sandwich, but the other day I was unable to block out that death meant my meat.
In the next house they keep many Pigs and the other morning about 5am I heard the Pigs as normal until I heard the most horrific terrifying shrill of pain from the animal and it continued for about a minute, the screams were causing me to gasp for air myself as I could hear the last terrified of an animal leaving this planet in the most terrible way.
Finally the noise suddenly stopped just as it started and I could not sleep anymore and went to the fridge for a reassuring Orange juice, which was next to a packet of fresh Bacon!!!
I decided on Egg on toast instead.

John: it’s just that the bacony goodness is such a strong motivator. I don’t much like hearing the squeal, either. I just tell myself that we humans are animals and we are above the pigs in the food chain. (Don’t get me started on non-religious vegetarians!)
Oh my goodness, John! When Steve and Feyma cooked that Pork Roast a while back, you sure did clean off your plate! You hypocrite!
, so she should not cook any meat meals for you in the future?
Should I tell Feyma that you are going vegetarian
It takes a squeal to make a meal!
Hi John,It takes some getting use to if you are a city boy, however it does not sound a very humane way of disposing of the pig.Being born a country boy, i remember visiting an abattoire to buy a pig for a roast barbecue, the teenager who was with me went very queasy at the site of all the carcasses hanging there,he had to leave the building, regards Chas.
John m
I can smell the Bacon cooking as I read this article…bring it on
BOB
I stick by my principles….well untill the Pork is on the plate anyway lol
Paul
Perhaps we can white noise the last few seconds lol
Chas
Chas I am ok if its dead but seeing it leave the world or hearing it is just too much for me
…its good to be at the top of the food chain…..
Hello John, I remember as a child when a next door neighbor slaughtered a pig during one of the holidays. Anyway the designated butcher must have messed up because when they started to butcher this poor animal,it let out a blood curdling scream that can be heard at least half a mile away. It almost sounded like a human being pleading for its dear life. For a long time,I had great difficulty in getting that scream out of my head.As a child,it gave me bad dreams.Oops gotta go,I’ve got these babyback ribs slow cooking on my smoker right now and these babies are just about ready. Take care John.
Venice tells me that alot of times they will use Vetsin (MSG) to poison the pig rather than slice it’s neck. Having worked in a meat packing plant before I’m amazed that I’m not vegetarian myself but every animal in the food chain has to eat (including us human animals), usually at the expense of the animal just below it
LOL LOL!
I was visiting a shih tzu person in Concord and then she turns around and looks at my other friend Peggy and says You know Cheryll, Peggy lives in the most horrible place At Merced County.
I am like why?
Do you know when I drove over I saw someone slaughtering a pig in front of their house I could not eat Pork for weeks.
Peggy goes, ummm excuse me Carol, I live in a FARM.
Then she goes and when I next visited Peggy she was missing a cow (the cows were so cute and I even patted 1) - Peggy then said well you REALLY liked the hamburger I served didn’t you?
Peggy, grows out cows in her farm for their own consumption but they actually grow Sugar beets, Alfalfa, Corn etc they have like over 1,000 acres. lol lol
My little cousin saw a sheep being slaughtered and he kept crying…
I actually saw a pig being slaughtered when I was like 6 or 7, I don’t think I was too upset but maybe that was because when we lived with our grandparents we always bought our chicken live and they were slaughtered in the house. Now I buy the chicken DRESSED!
