Filipino Worries
Hans Lopez-Vito, VP-strategic planning director of McCann Worldgroup Philippines stressed, that the consumer insight and strategic planning experts have discovered that the most important concerns facing today’s Filipinos encompass a whole slew of topics. They disclosed these findings in a new McCann Intergeneration Study, a comprehensive survey which tracked 2,000 urban Filipinos, aged 12-60, and analyzed their lifestyle, school/work- ethic, consumer behavior, moral standards and perception of society.
It’s no more amazing, that the main worries and concerns belong to the air and water pollution. My heart still breaks, if I see certain places and areas subscribed as “Smokey Mountains” or “Rivers of Garbage”. Who should be blamed?
Drugs and Criminality follow as No. 2 and 3. Being a crime victim fear many Filipinos. Health and Disease, such as contracting a disease (super virus), getting AIDS or getting sick for a long time, are belonging also to the “hit parade of Filipino worries”. Why? Because of not being probably insured? Of course, SSS and PhilHealth are never enough. Once being submitted in a hospital and being asked for a cash advance, many Filipinos have to surrender and give up. How about our fellow creatures live in the Philippines for good?
The list of Filipino worries and concerns continues as follows: Quality of education, not finishing or not going to college, not being successful (read one of my following posts “If failures get results”), not getting a better job later on (in the Philippines), not having achievements in life, not able to send children to school, losing jobs (read one of my following posts “Wage War in the Office”), not having anything to feed children (”What’s the perfect number of having children?”), and “needing to make money“. How can a Pinoy and his family survive?
I really would like to get a lot of comments regarding my questions. I am sure, such dialogue could help both sides. Filipinos and foreigners, live in the Philippines. Or, especially foreigners, married to Filipinas, live in the Philippines or plan to move here for good or being scared to move here for good.

Klaus,
I am planning to move there. As you know I do not have a lot of experience there, just (2) 2 week visits.
But from reading this site, my limited travels around Davao, and chatting with Elena, I know I will be able to adjust.
I will try to buy health insurance from Blue Shield for Elena and myself.
I do realize life will be alot different than in the US, but I was never into the American “Captiolistic” mentality and perfered the strong family values and helping friendships like our grandparents generations.
With all of you there, I know I will enjoy my life more than I have in the past 10 years in Florida. It is very hard at our age and being single to make friends in Florida.

Hi Bruce, your thoughts touched me. In my experiences: you don’t need a lot of travel experiences. I know many people, who came to the Philippines 20times and more. When they decided to move here for good and stayed here even for a couple of months, they gave up. I visited the Philippines first time in 1976 because of stop over before heading to Japan.I came here 16times before I decided to stay here for good. The first year wasn/t easy for me and my family. Family ties, friends and meeting the right people at the right time became very important. Of course, life is different anywhere. And living in the Philippines permanently is much more different than staying for a short vacation. If you agree with strong family values, you do already a big step forward. Making friends is also difficult, maybe in the States and/or in Germany. Regarding health insurance (any important protection) is very important. Our service office in Davao can help you, if time comes. Regards to Elena, and thank you

Hello Klaus!
Being a Filipino is a gift from the creator! I am not saying that we are better than others.
Why I said that? Beacuse i believe that what ever comes in thier life as a filipino will always survive..
I believe that the most responsible in that matter was the parents, mother and father. it suppose to be bind together the 50-50 responsible for thier sibling, to feed a proper food or sending in a good school,Government aslo is added.
But you as a sibling you must not always depend to your parents. Do something for your self and dont follow your parents life, make your own life.Like my own experience. i did not depend on my parents to send me in school to get a good education.always remember that we are the one who made our destiny. not our parents or our government.
ONLY YOU.
Being worries is a matter of choices. if you are type of a person who always worries. i believe that you will not get any but rather you will be down.
Stop your worries! face and figth…
Filipino is not the only country who suffering from worries, they have lots of other nationalities like African nation.
T hank you

Hi Harold, you are so very right. Of course, Filipinos are one of the greatest survivors, abroad and in their home country. Worried people can be find everywhere. Of course it’s the responsibility of the parents to raise their children. Actually I also tried to stay on my own feet, means to say “study the job but earn already, even a little amount only. Later my way became totally different than what my parents wished me to do. Becoming a bank account would have been great. My dream was to become a journalist and “see the world”. Anyway, thanks Harold, once again, for completing my article.
