Philippine-German Relations (VII)
Following the Philippine-German Relations’ Chronology one should mention the year 1959, when MISEREOR started its international work of helping developing countries with almost 157 projects.
In 1960 the German Trade Mission to the Philippines arrived to survey developing economic conditions and trade possibilties.
On April 7, 1961 the German Cultural Center (Goethe Haus) was established in Pasay City. Mr. Hans Stieber was its first director. In 1961 also the first centenary of Jose Rizal has been celebrated with various cultural activities in honor of this national hero in Germany and in the Philippines.
1962 was the year of inauguration of the University of SanCarlos Chemical Pilot Plan, financed by the Government of West Germany and its Presiding President Heinrich Luebke.
1965 became important because of the first batch of Philippine registered nurses arriving Germany in Bad Homburg/Hessen/West Germany.
1969 showed the Inauguration of Radio Veritas, the Philippine Bishops’ Projects, which was financed by the West German Government.
(Personal Note: I was honored and blessed being part of the CMN Catholic Media Network as radio host of DXGN 89.9 FM Good News Radio Davao for almost 2 years, especially with my Saturday- and Sunday Show “The Passion of Music”).
