Winter in the Philippines?

It should be now as I learned from other Philippinos and expats? Mmh, this reminds me of several comments (and complains) of different expats, who really miss winter here in the Philippines. At my first glance, I thought, they are just kidding.

I am staying in the Philippines now since more then nine years and I must confess, I have never ever miss the winter with snow and ice and “bad road conditions”.

How about you? Do you miss such stuff? Or do you try “to heal this desire” in going back to your home country, which provides you now with real winter elements???

Hi Klaus - The only time I usually miss winter is during Christmas. Sometimes I feel that having cool weather at that time would make it feel more like Christmas to me.

By the way, have you noticed that it has been noticeably cooler in Davao lately? Seriously!

Hi Klaus - Whenever I think about missing winter, I just remember decades of shovelling snow, chipping ice, and wearing layer after layer of clothing. The thoughts of winter quickly vanish!

Hi Paul, , that’s what I also told my family. And I never enjoyed driving a car with winter road conditions…

Hi Alan Mark, hahaha, yup, you are very right. I also hate those animals as well as rats and mice. Good thing, they didn’t got any chance inside our house since many years…

Oh Klaus, Oh Klaus, as you know I have just left Davao for a while and I have arrived back in the south of England. Miss winter?? It is so freezing and cold and I am suffering from heat withdrawal. I miss wearing t shirts and shorts. I am here, shivering, wrapped in numerous layers of clothes. I have just listened to the weather forecast and in the next couple of days we have snow coming.
I do NOT miss the winters at all when I am in the Philippines.
Mind you, I suffered a bit from the heat too, when I was there, so maybe, for many of us, it is really that the “grass is always greener on the other side”.
Miss you guys so much already. Love to you all.

    Klaus,
I had the same feelings when I fist moved from New York to California, No real seasons.
As Bob wrote a while ago, there are 2 tempertures in Davao, Hot and Very Hot.
Even though I do not miss shoveling snow or skidding on the ice while driving, I do miss seasonal changes. My favorites were Spring and Fall. Spring smelling the new buds and grasses growing and thewarming after a long winter. Fall seeing the leaves turn colors and the cooling of the air.
Even winter has some nicetings, invigrating cold air as you walk outside.
Lately I have enjoyed sitting outside in the mornins here with light clouds blocking the heating sun and feeling the cool breeze.
I would have never belived I would enjoy 26-27 degrees as cool and cmfortable.

    Klaus,
I just returned from Davao on Jan 17th after enjoying my holidays with my fiancee. I loved the warm weather, as Bob stated it is abit different during the holidays not to have the snowie weather, hot buttered Rums, and the Salvation Army ringing bells. I am so looking forward to returning in June for a full retirement. As I said before I returned to Alaska, 2 feet of snow and freezing temps and a frozen sewer tank. How’s that for a Old Man winter visiting me while I was enjoying the splender of this fine Philippine Winter? Enjoy reading your blog Klaus, I do miss my flip flops and t-shirts too. Keith

Hi Keith, thanks for stopping by. Yeah, I can still imaging such snow and weather. I also watch the CNN news lately reporting several snow storms in the US (but also in China and Israel). Brrrrhhhh…! Come back to Davao save and sound in June and just let us know, if you are here. Thanks for enjoy reading my blog…
