How is YOUR lifestyle? (III)
I received some comments by email after the first two parts of this serial. These have been comments from Philippinos as well as from expats living in the Philippines. I was surprised being informed that they only like to tell me their opinion in a personally email and confidentially. I accept this of course. One thing has been mentioned several times: the excessive Philippino way of drinking and especially eating “forbidden things”… .
Of course, one can prevent heart attacks or strokes by having a regular and complete medical check-up at least once a year. Your blood pressure should be checked regularly. I do it actually daily. Regularly monitoring of your cholesterol level should be also a must.
Watch out for diabetes? Did you know, that consuming too much rice is a “time bomb”? - Quit smoking if you do! Follow a low-fat diet which consists of fish, vegetables, fruits, fiber cereals, and multivitamins. Limit intake of eggs and red meats like pork and beef… .
Oh my gosh - yeah, I hear us groaning and sighing. I know - I know… . Sorry guys, I am not yet finished: Shed off excess pounds if you are overweight and avoid excessive alcohol use. Limit drinks to one or two bottles or shots per day. One thing, I love to do (again!) is regularly exercising (as simple as brisk walking four times a week or more will do). Here I get a lot of new ideas… .
Yeah, one more thing: know how to relax and enjoy life and learn to cope with stress. Many of us expats forget about it… .
Or, what do YOU think?

Hi Klaus,Interesting posts regarding health,i note you mention to much rice is a “time bomb” why is this? never heard this before, regards Chas.
Hi chas, eating too much rice rises your diabetes level, as I learned from several doctors. Nowadays I try to research specified details…
hi klaus
knowing about nutrition and health is like going to school. have to study, learn about it, then use it. we are not born with the knowledge.
why are so many in the family have the same diseases and sicknesses that it seems to people as hereditary and excuse it as such and then say they can’t do anything about it because its in their blood?
eating habits are learned and love for certain foods are passed down from family, parents to kids. if peole change their eating habits and eat nutritious food, this would prevent alot of diseases and common sicknesses. your parents eat bad, you are going to eat bad.
like for example, a cousin of mine takes pills after pills for ailments left and right and he is not even of retirement age. suggestions of taking up an exercise program has not been implemented. of course sucking that cancer stick cigarette wont be stopped. changing the whole family’s diet to more nutritious food so not only for his own health but also for the benefit of the entire family has totally been disregarded. would you like to know the answer to this life extending solution for nutritious food? “thats the way we eat” my cousin says. well, thats the way my cousin and his family are going to be sick.
its hard to change the mentally of people when it comes to health and nutrition even here in the states. understanable for people who just have to eat what is available, who struggles just to keep something in the belly with no other choices. but for people with other means, what a shame when they can be healthy, wealthy, and wise.
Hi Maria, thank you very much indeed for your very interesting comment and your valuable thoughts you shared with us. I agree strongly with you and I would wish that many read your advices and try to follow them. “That’s the way we eat (or always did it) is indeed no excuse.
Nice article you have here Klaus =) We should watch out what we eat for a healthy lifestyle and for long life..
How are you? Hope you are doing good and your health as well. Have a blessed day ahead…tc!
