Philippine Disappointments

By PaulK | August 20, 2009 | 26

Man, I just can’t take all of these disappointments anymore. Paraphrasing the Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition:  Disappointment.  noun.  1. A displeasure or frustration.   2. Something not desired nor expected. Yes, I’m the same person who wrote about my expectations for our Philippine adventure. Yes, I was overly positive; believing that the expectations I held were not lofty.  I spoke about every cloud’s silver lining, yadda, yadda, yadda.  I badly wanted to prove my wife Emy’s warning…

It’s Almost Tax Time!

By PaulK | August 13, 2009 | 15

WHAT – it’s almost tax time? Hey, Paul, we’ve merely passed the first seven months of the year.  What is all this claptrap about tax time? (While this article is aimed at the US Ex-pat and speaks to taxes “enjoyed” by US citizens and residents, some other countries impose similar regulations.  Readers whose situation is not covered by this article would be well advised to check their country’s tax requirements.) In Search Of . . .

We thought it is such a good thing that we are participating in the “flood of humanity”…

Now that’s a strange question. Just what does it ask? Who is Paul? What’s a Pasuquin? Alternatively, maybe, has this Paul arrived and was it painful …? There could be many answers to that three-word question. One short answer could be, “Yes.” I am sure you would like a little longer answer. Well, here it is. Who is Paul? – An Introduction In keeping with the (unofficial) tradition here at LiP, this article is my…

Philippine Expectations

By PaulK | July 18, 2009 | 32

The other day, my wife Emy said something that I found a bit disturbing.  Here we are, just days before returning home to Pasuquin, and her words shocked me like a tossed bucket of ice water.  The final Balikbayan box has already started its journey home.  Our bags have been packed and re-packed numerous times.  We’ve received confirmation of our flight status and our strategies for handling carry-on baggage are set.  All systems are “GO!”…
