I am a fan of reading books.
Guys not the encyclopedia Britannica. Lol. I’m just a fan of reading romance novel books. In short pocket books. 🙂
I’ve been reading the old school way with book in hand for a long, long time. Well, when the Kindle was introduced a few years ago, Bob was asking me if I want to read on kindle? He told me that he will order it for me and have it sent it here. He explained to me the whole thing on ordering the books and how easy it is to read on the Kindle. I told him I have to think about it. I’m kind of iffy about reading on the gadget. I didn’t get back to him for a long time. But I keep continue on reading with the book.
A friend was visiting from Iligan and he had Kindle. Bob borrowed the Kindle of our friend and showed it to me and explained the functions and such. I still held off at that time after I saw it. I was still not convinced by it. Finally Bob put and let me test the cell phone apps that functioned like a Kindle. He told me to try it for a few days and if I don’t like it he will uninstall it. Ha ha ha… Surprisingly I liked it a lot. It’s so awesome knowing that I learned new things and remained liking it for the long haul. LOL
The good thing I liked about having the Kindle apps on my cell phone, I can read during night time at my lounging chair even if Bob was asleep. No need for me to have over head light on. My cell phone’s light is good enough already. So happy to have options like that. I would never get rid of the cell phone apps ever. Every time time I will have a new cell phone, I will have Bob or Aaron install the Kindle apps for me. Can’t live without now. Ha ha ha.
My niece Glenda is into reading also. She mostly read the Tagalog romance novel. The only thing is when I was browsing for a free sample to read. No free Tagalog novels so far that I know. I have to look more I guess. That’s one thing I like about the English novel, so many free ones on the net. I haven’t ordered yet so far. I want to read the free ones right now. I might order and pay pretty soon because there were some novel that I read and it has a continuation to part 2 and 3. Option for me to read the rest of the story, I have to pay for it. It’s so interesting that I am thinking of ordering the rest of the story. Bummer.
I got into reading on my Kindle just right before Bob was hospitalized. It’s been over a couple months now. I’ve read so many books now. Luckily all of them were free. Bob’s been telling me that I can order if I want. He already set me up that it’s just automatic for me to order. He really spoiled me with this one hobby of mine. Love him to pieces for that. 🙂
When I was younger I usually go to bed late at night and just read. But lately I will read till 11 or 12 midnight. Then get up early for my early walk with my daughter Jean. That’s our bonding time. Aaron also got hooked to reading on Kindle. He is like me. He also reads until late at night.
Friends, are you a Kindle reader or still read the old fashion way? Either way is good, whatever works for you. Have fun reading!

I definitely use my Kindle a lot. One thing that I do, though, is download books from my local public library for free (using an app called Overdrive). For us, we have to live in the library service area to do that. It is a large selection, but you still end up waiting in line for some books (because of how the publishing company makes its money). Still, well worth it.
Feyma
Hi Tom – Good for you.
I’m a kindle user now. It’s so easy to just download the books that I want to read. LOL.
Enjoy your reading!
Bill
I enjoy reading, but I’m still prefer the old fashioned way. You are correct when you say, “Either way is good, whatever way works for you.” Regardless, the most important thing is – Reading! I wish more kids these days would read.
One thing is for certain. Kids love their ‘gadgets’ and ‘gizmos’. I’m sure the Kindle helps draw in more young readers.
The thing I love about reading is – it can take the mind on a journey!

Hi Bill – When you move to the Philippines you might have to reconsider your preferences. I understand about liking the old fashioned feel of a book… but, books can be difficult to get in the Philippines, selection is very limited. The beauty of a device like a Kindle is that you have instant access to nearly any book in the world, no matter where you live! 😉
Feyma
Hi Bill – It’s good for you to be reading the old fashioned way there, too many bookstore to chose from. Unfortunately books are so limited here in the Philippines. Not too many bookstores here. Sigh….
*** One thing is for certain. Kids love their ‘gadgets’ and ‘gizmos’. I’m sure the Kindle helps draw in more young readers.*** — So true. Kids are reading now more through kindle. One example is our son Aaron. 🙂
Good to see you here. Have fun on your reading!
Axel
I use my iPad for reading, it is easy and I can get new books whenever i want. Just like Tom, i can download free books from a library (in Denmark), so i don’t need to buy.
But…there’s always a but; It’s easy 24/7 available for new books, but i still like the good old fashion book, the cover, the print, the feeling. Though I never buy an “old book” anymore.
It also saves shelf space – dust collector.
Feyma
Hi Axel – So awesome to be getting free books. Right now I’m just reading the free one. Too many that it will be awhile for me to be paying one. I already had books in mind that I will purchase later.
True, space is crucial for some people if buying the hard cover books. It will be same situation for me. We had so many books here in the house. Had to give away some.
Yep and the dust and cobwebs too. Not good to see.
Nice to see you here. Thank you for stopping by!

I am an old fashioned girl when it comes to books, like Axel, just the feel of holding it and seeing the pages left to read. My daughter is also a reader and she is now reading on her iPad. I’m sure I’ll get there soon, just not ready to switch over yet.
Feyma
Hi Debra – I’m like you before, but once I tried the kindle I’m definitely staying with kindle. Plus it’s easier for me to order books on-line than going to the limited bookstore here in the PI.
Ha ha ha.. Just the first leap is the hard part. Once you tried it, you will not go back. 🙂
Have fun reading!

Feyma;
Being an old thickhead from Boston, you would never catch me reading a dang e-book, until I found that I could increase the size of the font and not strain my eyes like when I was reading a “REAL” book. If my Android tab was to fail today I would go this afternoon and replace it. I keep all my books on my computer and a few USB’s (Just in case) and load a 100 or so at a time on my tablet. The tab is used for no other purpose. I’m now an E-book super-fan..
Feyma
Hi Paul – So true. That’s one of the reason I am staying with kindle because of the font adjustment. Plus you can order books online and get it in an instant.
Wow, you’re really loading your tablet with books. I just order like 5 to 10 books at a time. I felt sorry for Bob getting notification of the book that I ordered. It’s a pain for him to be deleting too many emails. Ha ha ha
I’m like you I’m also an “E-book” super fan. Good to see you here Paul.
Have fun reading!
Don
I am a sci fi reader and the kindle are the best at delivering the most recent publications and will remind you when a new novel by your favorite author is published. The only down side is that I think the price on Amazon is a bit steep for ebook, usually about 80% of price of the paperback. I think I read an article that cost of printing a book is not that expensive anymore.
Feyma
Hi Don – Yep, for sure. You will get your e-book in just seconds after ordering. Not bad at all.
I’m sure you can order e-book to some other place too.
Thank you for your comment. Nice to see you here.
Enjoy your reading!

I have the kindle on my tablet, so amazingly easy and useful!!
Bong
I have been reading before i even attended school. i think sesame street taught me how to read. The first paperbacks i read were mills & boon romance novels owned by my mom. i bought a lot of second hand books from a store that sells them in the malls. forgot the name of the store. with the advent of android gadgets i now read books for free. i was very thankful for that since old fashioned books tend to be expensive.

I must ask, does the Kindle download movies and television on Amazon Prime like in the States? I agree one of the best features is reading at night without having a light on or disturbing anyone except for a chuckle or two.

Feyma:
Every Friday night after work in the 1950’s and 60’s our father would come through the door with a stack of brand new comic books and deposit them in front of his 5 sons. We would take our favourites and swap them back and forth all week.
Our mother would rant that he is poisoning our minds with rubbish, and my Dad would smile. He knew that the simple act of reading for fun would be the start of our reading for life, as someday the pictures in the magazine would no longer be required. We became a family of readers and it stuck with us our entire lives. Thanks to our comic heroes. And none of us kept them as an investment and they were never called “Graphic Novels” back then.
Richard
My Dad taught me to read before I went to kindergarten and also would read to the enire family every night..everything from Kipling to “Bowser the Hound”..plus a ton of historical stuff that he was interested in. There is seldom a point I do not have at least 2 books going at the same time and a night that the book falling and hitting the floor to tell me it is time to shut the light and go to sleep is rare. The only problem with that is right before that happens..in-between awake and asleep …is that I start to make up the story-line in my head, and the next time I pick up the book I am like..”wait a second..that’s not how that went”..lol
What is still amazing to me is the huge storage on an e-book. I have boxes upon boxes of books in my attic. My grandfather had one of the largest rooms in his house as a library and reading room. Both he and my Dad would be astounded by this method of having such a huge amount of information at the touch of your finger..and you can carry it around in your pocket…lol
Btw..I taught both of my kids to read early as well and read to them often…they both read prolifically and discussion of various books always seems to come up in our conversations…lol
Mike
I found that when I bought a Kindle, I begin to read much more often. I know have a Kindel 1, Kindel 2, and Kindle Fire HD. There are many free books online. Try this link to find ebooks in Tagalog.

They also have books in Cebuano and many other languages. Hope this helps.

I brought a supply of paperbacks here. But when i’m done with them I will invest in a kindle.
Jade
noveseyma,
I have always been a reader of books. Since My mother read to me Alice in Wonderland, more than once, then it went to Dr Seuss, I read those myself.
Now I prefer mostly biographies and autobiographies and also novel books by a specific author whom I may prefer. I have not yet passed the barrier ofstarting with Kindle but with the suggestions I may give it a try.

Hi Feyma – Back when I was in high school, I used to cheat when writing a term paper on classical literature. I would check out the book from the school library and cite it as a bibliographic source, but I would never read it. I would read instead the comic book version of the book. The comic book was much easier to understand than the book from the library. LOL
Jade
John,
When I was a freshman in high school we were tasked With writing a TERM PAPER. OH GOD! This was spring 1964 . Kennedy had just been shot a few months before. The topics included Kennedy and air pollution and some others.
Myself not wanting to compete in a field of many and being something of a science kid. I opted for air pollution. It served me well.
Air pollution was a time neutral topic as opposed to Kennedy.
I handed in that term paper in many times through high school and through college unedited in it’s original form. A Kennedy term paper would not have withstood that test of time. More than half of that class wrote their term paper on Kennedy.
Ha ha.

Hi Feyma
I have a large collection of books that I brought with me. in BB boxes. but lately I have become addicted to my Amazon kindle that I read on my tablet. I have purchased many favorites but lately have been reading free classics that I never had time to read before. Just finished The mysterious Island by Jules Verne
Like you I am so enjoying my kindle too!
