ON the 23rd June 2016, the people of Great Britain cast their votes in a Referendum in order to decide weather to stay in or to leave the European Union! After the votes were counted the votes to leave were about 4% more than the votes to remain which means that Great Britain will leave the European Union in about 2 years time after all the requirements to leave have been fulfilled!
NOW, what does this all mean, will this be a good thing for the UK or not? Voters in Scotland actually, by a rather large margin voted to stay in the EU so this area is not too happy about the result to leave as they do not want to leave! They had their own Referendum a couple of years ago voting to become an independent country but the NO vote won so Scotland is still a part of the UK! I think that now, Scotland will try to call another Referendum calling for Independence once again! Northern Ireland also voted to stay in the EU! This will now bring up the question that as the Southern Irish Country is in the EU, should the north be joined with them as a United Ireland has been a dream of many Irish for years and which also caused the problems where the British Army, Including Myself had to spend many years trying to solve the problem but after many deaths, the military were pulled out without a real conclusion to the problem! It is a distinct possibility that in the not too distant future that the UK will consist of only England, Wales and Gibraltar!
Many older people have always been against the EU basically because they remember the 1st and 2nd world wars where literally many thousands of Military Personnel and Civilians were Killed or Injured during the conflict and the relations of the casualties did not want to be ruled and regulated by any European Countries, especially the Germans, French or Italians! My mothers first Husband was killed in WW 2, if it was not for that sad event, my mother would not have met my farther and I probably would not be here!
The younger generation are more into the EU and were more the ones that voted to remain in the EU. The Greater London are was the biggest area to vote remain but that is not a surprise as the wealth and power is in that area!
I can see that there will be some problems during the escape from the EU as I am sure that some countries will be very vindictive and will try to get as much out of the UK while they can before the Divorce is final but I cannot see that all the business that is conducted between the UK and EU is going to stop just like that!
I do not believe that there will once again be border controls around all the EU countries just to keep an eye on where the UK people are heading! Any business that has been done to date between the UK and the EU is huge and I am sure that any business in any country that has been doing such profitable business like this will not just stop doing so unless there are real problems with the finances!
The Prime Minister, who was for Remain Group has said that he will resign very soon and hand over the leadership to someone who voted to leave. That is a good move but lets hope that who ever is his replacement is a sensible person without windswept hair!
Only the future will give the answers to the questions people will ask!
