The housing prices that I’m going to tell you were mostly based on our experience in living here. When we first moved here we lived in GenSan for 2 years. We rented a really nice ranch house there. It was owned by a friend’s friend, the guy was from Europe and the lady was from […]
Property Ownership in the Philippines
A big discussion on this website over the years has been focused on whether it is best to buy property or rent property when living in the Philippines. There are advocates for either side of the argument.
Foreigners are not allowed to own real property in the Philippines. So, you cannot buy land here if you are not a Natural Born Philippine Citizen. Now, if your spouse is a Filipino, then you can own a house here, although it will not be in your name, only in your spouses name. That can present an entirely different set of problems, but does offer a potential solution.
Foreigners CAN, however, own a condo unit, so that is another thing to keep in mind.
On the other hand, rental prices are very reasonable in the Philippines, so you can often rent for less than buying.

It’s been ten years since our house was painted last and the mold and sun has taken the luster off the rose. Last year when we tiled the front of the house it looked good, until your eyes looked up and saw the rest of the joint. So I guess it’s time, oh hell I’m […]
