On Monday, I published an article about how Feyma had finally found a suitable house for use to rent here in Davao. Of course, we’ve been living in Davao for years, so this was not our first rental house in the City, just the latest. Almost immediately after the article was published, a number of […]
Property Ownership in the Philippines
A big discussion on this website over the years has been focused on whether it is best to buy property or rent property when living in the Philippines. There are advocates for either side of the argument.
Foreigners are not allowed to own real property in the Philippines. So, you cannot buy land here if you are not a Natural Born Philippine Citizen. Now, if your spouse is a Filipino, then you can own a house here, although it will not be in your name, only in your spouses name. That can present an entirely different set of problems, but does offer a potential solution.
Foreigners CAN, however, own a condo unit, so that is another thing to keep in mind.
On the other hand, rental prices are very reasonable in the Philippines, so you can often rent for less than buying.
The archived articles below explore the subject and will help you understand the dilemma.
If you are looking for property rent or to buy in the Philippines, you can check our Real Estate Section to find the property that is right for you.
The move is on!
As I told you in my Monday article this week, Feyma and I found a new house to move to here in Davao. As I also stated in a previous article about personal security, with this new house, I will not be too specific about where I will be living. I had also said that […]

The Sad Story of the Unfinished Hotel
In I think 1997, a man from Holland and his Filipina Wife arrived in Glan, Sarangani Province where they had purchased a 12 hectare seaside lot where they were to build a hotel. In Sarangani Province at that time there were NO hotels and even today there still are NONE with the exception of Beach […]
How much do squatters earn?
Do you know what a squatter is? Some of you might not, although it is likely that most of you do know. The reason why some may not know what a squatter is is because there really are not any (or at least many) squatters in the USA or other more developed countries. For those […]
Just a thought
Last week I wrote about the Family Feud. Well that got me thinking though after I submitted my post. I was talking to my agent Mae regarding that house that we just went to. Both Mae and I first noticed the condition of the house. When we got near and inside the gate, being there […]
