With it being that time of year once again we Scuba divers got our heads together and decided to celebrate the season with a Christmas Party. We had a primary meeting to try to get things organised and to my surprise we actually managed to achieve something before the beer took over. We managed to […]
I think that by now most people who read my stuff will get the idea that I am all for Protection of the Environment and I think that this article will give you a good idea why I am for conservation! I think that most people are aware that because of the brutality caused by […]
Now I am sure that people are wondering why this Gen San Resident is making the journey all the way to Palawan from the comfort of his home, well, it’s quite simple, I was invited there along with my wife by the JCI’s (Junior Chamber International) as the Guest of Honor during the launching of their Artificial […]
This is a short story about a small but interesting project which was carried out by John Heitz very near to our favorite dive site on the very edge of the Marine Sanctuary in Tampuan or Tinoto as it is commonly called. Having spoken to some of the older people who have lived in that area […]
In 2003, I bought my Mazda Pickup second-hand in Davao. I was about 9 years old at the time and ever since it came into my possession it has really had a hard life and has been abused most horribly. On many occasions it has been well over loaded with not only dive gear but also with the divers also, they way I use a pick up is as a working vehicle and not a pose mobile. If my wife takes the pick up on a plant hunting expedition for the garden then the poor thing will really get abused.
When I first got it the last owner had it all repaired and repainted and it really looked good having a nice silver paint job but now it needs a bit of love and attention in order to keep it road worthy. He had something to do with pineapples so the base of the rot was already started.
The original body, which was in a very poor state and not worth repairing so I decided to scrap it and have a new one constructed made from angle iron and marine plywood. This was a very simple job and in fact I had it made in a tricycle builders shop. I was thinking that the builder would so an average job but to my surprise the work was excellent and the body lasted about 4 years until now it has rotted out once again and needs to be replaced.

Over the last few years […]
