Over the last few weeks, school has been taking a break. We have been having an abnormally large number of holidays, starting during the Day of the Dead and Day of Saints. And unsurprisingly November 16, 2010 is another holiday in this hopefully unending chain of canceled school days. I heard from the radio about last week that November 16, 2010 will be a holiday, proclaimed by President Noynoy Aquino (P-Noy for short) stating that November 16 will be the day of Sacrifice, although I am not really that sure if this day will be called that, I’m just happy that there is another holiday.
If you are asking “why so happy about it when you should be enjoying school?”, well the answer i as simple as this, projects. You see, in our school (AdDU-HS) it’s the third quarter and in the high school, we never periodical tests to end the quarter. So to make up for the loss of points or percentage, all the teachers fill the gap with a major project, most are thankfully in groups. So it’s good for us to have at least a few days of rest to start ahead our projects in case of others in the group not working. Like we have about 4, and counting, all are in groups, and most of the members in my group are the lazy ones, although some are determined to pass.
Going back to the problem with school, I’m actually happy about all these holidays because the third quarter is the quarter where most students’ grades are pulled down, so it’s good to have a head start on some projects, especially the ones that needs most work, like in our social studies class it’s a diorama project about the sports in India, we picked Cricket, and I’m in charge of sculpting the players and referee. It might take a week or two but I hope it will all turn out good.
Although there is always a doubt at the back of my mind, it keeps on telling me that all these holidays will me lazier in my studies, that’s why it’s good to have some schoolwork to do over the course of the holidays. Projects and all, we also have more quizzes than usual, like in Filipino, almost everyday since last week. Also in other subjects the alternative is a long test, in Social Studies it’s all about the dynasties of China and the early civilization of India. How am I supposed to know who was the ruler of the dynasties of China? And with the quarter ending this coming December 7, 2010, we’ll be cramming to finish everything in time.
With the third quarter being this short and hard, I hope they would extend it, even just a week or two. I wouldn’t even be sure I can keep my grades up. Trying hard not to fail, trying hard to pass all projects, trying hard not to get low scores in quizzes. All equals a big mess in my brain.
As my teacher said, “No person on Earth is dumb, there are just so many who are lazy.”
