If you’ve been following my articles, I’ve been describing the process of finding my wife through her family, meeting her, and now our process of moving to the Philippines. Our boxes were picked up in two different pick up dates in January, and we were hoping, or at least I was, that they would not get to the Philippines until sometime in June. Some of you may ask, “Why would I want to wait so long for them to arrive at their destination”? Well, for the simple fact that I don’t expect our paperwork to be done until October. So that would mean that the earlier the boxes arrive there in the PI, the longer my mother-in-law has to deal with them in her house. While I am not someone to really ask many favors, shipping our boxes early meant that we would be getting a HUGE discount, and it would allow us to send more than we could afford, or had budgeted for in our process of moving. So, we took the plunge in sending the packages early, and began praying for a delayed arrival.
Our prayers were NOT answered!! We received word that our boxes have begun to arrive. Now, I’m not going to say that this is bad or good. It is obviously good for one reason, they made it. But, I also know that these boxes are going to take up a lot of space, and if they all arrive this month, they’ll be sitting around for another 6 or 7 months until we get there, and then maybe another month before we are able to unpack them in our rental house… once we find one!!
I love my mother-in-law, and she has said that the ten that have arrived are not a problem. But, there are another 15 that still need to be delivered. I’m not even going to think about sending the remaining boxes we have until we are about to leave, just to make sure that her house doesn’t become a warehouse, or a site for vandals and thieves to think about. Her house is safely located in a compound, and she is related to the police and mayor, so I think that will help, but as usual, I am still worried about them. More now than before because of the influx of our boxes.
So, what does this mean? I’m not sure saving the money is something I should have done. Maybe waiting to send the boxes would have been better than saving that money. Of course, that saved money is going to bring my mother-in-law some surprises when we arrive. I hope she will like what my wife and I have planned for when we arrive. Shhh…. It’s a surprise. 🙂
Until next time, paalam, ingat, and God bless
