Yesterday was Sunday here in the Philippines. Of course no school for the kids. As our usual weekend morning the kids will get up late in the morning. While I was working in the kitchen Jared and Aaron love to tell me about some games and stuff. To be honest when they’re talking about game stuff I just don’t have a clue of what they are talking about. Sometimes they tease me that I’m ancient because just don’t have any knowledge of the game gadget things.
They saw that I am really rearranging some spices in our pantry. Jared asked me if he could make some cookies with me. He will cook and I will be his “sous chef ” he said. I said okay. AJ overheard what Jared told me, then AJ wants to cook something too. So I told them that they can each make something. Jared chose to make “Monster Cookies” and Aj chose the “Chocolate Chip Cookies”.
They got the recipe and gather all the ingredients needed. Lucky for us, we have all the ingredients needed in our house. Even the chocolates and the M & M’s. Jared wanted to include some other treats in the cookies. He saw we have chocolates in different colors, he puts all of the colored chocolate. He told me its going to be good because it has lots of color. Being the sous chef, I have to follow what he wanted. Keep putting chocolates…
With AJ, he doesn’t really need much of my help. He showed me before that he can already understand the recipe. He will just ask me if the recipe gets a little complicated. But he didn’t ask me and his cookies turned out good too.ย He also wanting to add some other chocolates on his cookies. I told them you guys will decide what you want. I will just watch here and taste the cookies later.
AJ and Jared like to used my Kitchen Aide mixer. They think its cool gadget. I also made a deal with the kids that after were done cooking we will clean up and they have to put everything away. Holy cow, they will use up almost all of my sets of measuring spoons, cups and the mixing bowls. The flour, wow its all over the place. The kitchen counter was kind of messy. ๐ But we had fun hanging out though. It doesn’t really matter. We can clean up. Yesterday, my niece and nephew helped them finish cleaning up. Time for me to head to the air conditioned room. It was a little hot yesterday.
When one of them wants to cook,ย the whole gang will be asking me if they can can cook too. So what I did, I will be the sous chef of Jared and Aaron cook this week. Then next week I will have time to be the sous chef of Chris and Jean. I would not allow the 4 kids to cook at the same time. We tried that before and its a disaster. My kitchen was really a mess. I like to cook with them. I like a lot when I let just 2 of them will cook with me. We used to cooked a few times in a month, just during weekend. What we did before, each of them will decide what to cook for lunch, dinner and the desert. No matter what they cooked all of us would eat. They even made some pork and chicken kabobs, meatloaf, ribs and others. It’s good too.ย AJ made some lemon meringue with me before. He really likes the meringue. We really had a time together. They can ask or talk to me about anything.ย I teach them some ingredients combination. AJ being good in Science really wants to experiment a lot.ย It turned out good though. All my kids love to make something like with dough. For one flour tortilla and they will eat that with chicken, lettuce, cheese, onions and some sauce. Jean and Jared can handle spicy foods. Chris and AJ are not a fan of it, like me.
Next week I am not sure what Chris and Jean will cook. Maybe in the middle of the week they will tell me. Chris likes to cook too. He is a good helper in the kitchen. He loves to tastes whats cooking. Jean of course likes to eat Pinoy food. But she likes to cook foreign foods too. Well see what she prepares next week.
Cheers!

Hi Ms Feyma! The cookies your sons made looks delish! Good job! Jared is so cute! He he. It looks like he knows what he’s doing. Perhaps a future ‘junior master chef’ in the making? :).
Feyma

Hi feyma thats great and it is also a good education for the boys who traditionally dont cook ,i had to learn how to cook when i was on my own after my first divorce and also when i was in the army ,aint no one going to cook your dinner for ya boy. My mum youst to say that i cooked better than she did all it is ,is practice and being a bit adventurist before long you will be able to set them a task to cook dinner and sit back and relax ,i bet bob liked his cookie looks great keep letting them cook feyma it will serve them well in the future

Feyma
Hi chris – Yes, very true of what you just said. Wow, I am really looking forward for the time that Bob and I will just be relaxing and one of my kids will serve us with the food that we taught them to cook. That would be awesome…. Hoping for now.
Thank you chris for the nice comment.
Take care!

Hi Feyma
Kids love to make cookies but most of them dont like to clean the mess up they make, looks like you have them well trained though.
Feyma
Hi David L. Smith – Oh yeah, we have some time also that we have to argue about who clean up the mess. Ha ha ha typical teens and tween. We have both in the house..
Thank you for stopping by.
Take care!

Look out Mrs. Fields heheheh. They look yummy. I still haven’t mastered baking with gas in the RP.
I still have the fondest memories of my Grandmother teaching me how to make a roux. I think kids who learn to cook are less likely to be picky eaters as adults.
Well done, keep up the lessons.
Feyma
Hi John – Ha ha ha for sure… The cookies that my kids made were really yummy for your tummy. I don’t know about using the gas. Our oven runs with electricity.
That’s one thing I like cooking with the kids, the memories. They will remember a lot of it later. They will carried it on and teach to their kids.
Thank you so much for the nice thoughts.
Take care!

Ha haaa! Future Iron Chef-Davao. Cooking and/or baking probably is one of the best training you can teach your children. It will enhance their knowledge in science, accounting, chemistry and for sure curing your hunger. Good job AJ and Jared. Kudos to Feyma for letting them understand their way to being independent, encouragement and support.
Bob, how was the “Monster Cookies”?
Feyma
Hi Mars Z. – Thank you so much for the nice comment. I really appreciate very much.
I’m pretty sure Bob enjoyed the cookies that the kids made. ๐ I think he gave a 2 thumbs up…

Hi Feyma
This brings back a lot of memories when I was much younger LOL. I don’t do much of my own cooking any more as I kind of lean towards the quick and easy heat up in the microwave type of things like frozen items from the store and for something closer to a real meal I go to the local diner.
Making things like cookies and baking cakes and decorating them was a lot of fun but they never lasted long, I’d eat them all myself many times and then there was always the dreaded clean up.
The last thing I really remember making was ” Rice Pudding ” from my mothers recepie. After baking it in the oven it is supposed to cool down and then put in the refridgerator. I baked it, let it cool down to room temperature but it never made it to the refridgerator ! I tried a couple of spoonfuls to taste it and before I knew it, it was all gone !
From your pics, it looks like you have a very nice kitchen.

Hi Feyma! I have a friend whose mom taught him to cook at five years old. In later years, his wife was in a bad car accident and wound up with multiple sclerosis and other conditons. After his parents could no longer care for themselves (dad in wheelchair and mom with alzheimers), he traveled far to bring them into his home. At the same time he was a pastor with a church and was a director of a couple of departments at the college. This friend can really cook. You never know how the things we teach our kids today will become beneficial later in life.
