You’ve probably read and heard of the Miss World pageant controversy. The pageant was held like 2 weeks or so ago. Miss Philippines (Megan Young) got the title. Megan was born in the USA, shes a Fil-Am. She came to the Philippines and become an actress. She’s also active in charitable work. Everyone here was celebrating and so happy including myself. It was the first time for the Philippines to get the title ever since the pageant started in 1951. While the Philippines was in the celebration mode, someone made a bad comment and not happy with the result.
Never know at first about the criticism until seeing it on FB. Just didn’t pay much attention with it until one of my kids asked me if I saw what somebody said about the the Miss Philippines winning the title. I told my kids that I saw something and didn’t pay much attention about it. So I went through my news feed on my FB wall. I just can’t believed what that woman (by the way her name is Devina Dediva) said.
I’m quoting what Dediva says:
“Miss Philippines is Miss World? What a joke! I didn’t know those maids have anything else in them. Ha Ha Ha”…
She did not stop there. Another quote from her. “they are poor, smelly from cleaning toilets and uneducated.”
Still another comment from her and I quote “they are less privileged everywhere! M surprised one can win. What a joke those people cleaning our toilets won miss world.”
After seeing what she said I was thinking how could she said that. When I look at her picture, I could see she had an Indian descent. True enough when I google her name this is what I saw:
“Devina DeDiva is a Singaporean national of Indian origin”
I’m surprised she said what she said because I know that many people from India also seek job and work as an OFW in the countries were Filipinos seeks works too. Like a cousin of mine worked in Egypt for 8 years and now in Kuwait and most of her co-workers were from India. My cousin never said bad stuff with those co-workers of hers. When I was working in the States before for 2 months I had lots of Indian co-workers too. I never think low of them and them to me. To be totally honest most of us Filipinos that works there were almost all college graduates. Those Indian workers some of them were not even a high school graduate. But you know what both Filipinos and Indians never ever bash each cultures and descent and no calling names.
I don’t want to demean people, when she said Filipinos smells bad because they cleaned toilets. Well, I want to know then if she will be put inside one room with Pinoys after cleaning the toilets and the other room with her fellow Indian after cleaning toilets. Then I want her to judge who smells bad. She should not say the bad smelling because it will bounce back to her what she comment. I will say though that we also had people here that smells bad but who had the most smelly people. Just asking here.
You know I tried my very best not to judge people because I don’t want to be judge also. If a person from the Philippines say something like that to other person (contestant) from other country too after winning I would not like it too. The reason the pageant has judges, they are the one that has the right to judge who the winner is. We are not there for the pre-pageant.
I just want to advise Devina Dediva to watch the Bambi movie. I know it’s a kids movie, but its a good movie. Theirs a good moral lesson there that she needs to know and maybe put in her mind all the time:
Thumper says “If you can’t say something nice… don’t say nothing at all”
Keep your big mouth to yourself from now on. I’m pretty sure you want to continue living the good life. I heard you are out from your job now. Not fun anymore for you. Theirs time for fun and theirs time for sacrifices. I’m sure if you say sorry sincerely people are very forgiving. Try to be humble. God bless you.
Mabuhay Philippines!
Dominic O'Brien
The Philippines People are caring, loving, they are a very friendly race of people, and they work very hard for everything they have, TO ALL THE PEOPLE FROM THE PHILIPPINES, PLEASE DO NOT LET WHAT THIS NASTY DEDIVA HAS SAID BRING YOU DOWN OR DEGRADE YOU, I KNOW THIS MAY BE HARD FOR YOU AS YOU ARE A VERY PROUD PEOPLE. I FOR ONE HAVE GREAT RESPECT FOR YOU ALL. xxx
Feyma
Hi Dominic O’Brien – Thank you for the nice thoughts and for the good advice too.
Have a great day!
Stephen M Gray
Very nice comments and evaluation of the situation. One has to feel very sorry for that girl who made the comments, and accept it for what it’s worth — NOTHING. No one in the US paid any attention to those comment, so please try to ignore that they were even made. God bless Megan for her hard work.
Feyma
Hi Stephen M Gray – Thank you so much. Yep, really just so happy seeing the Philippines got the crown. Just hate to see the sour gripping though. Oh well!
Happy to see you here!
Bob Martin
Good thoughts, Stephen. Like you, I put no stock in those comments.
Axel
This “Dediva” only want attention, and she surely got it. I just can’t imagine that anyone can have that kind of attitude of ignorance and stupidity. I would ignore her and let her words die. No one believe it anyway, specially when you know Filipinos, you know that none of that is true. It is not unusual that some people point out things in other people, but those things are usually pointing direct to them self. she’s just ashamed of who she is, but it’s easier to blame others than your self. I know Filipinos do not point with fingers, but there is a saying: If you point a finger at someone, remember 3 fingers are pointing at your self.
Feyma
Hi Axel – That too and just jealous of the attentions that the Philippines getting lately. She’s just a low life and bored lady.
*** If you point a finger at someone, remember 3 fingers are pointing at your self. *** — Good saying and perfect for Dediva to know.
Good to see you here again Axel. Have a pleasant day!
Mike Cowan
Great adage, Axel! I’m 63 and have never heard that.
Gerald Glatt
My wife Fe Piodos Glatt usually cleans our toilets, smells good to me. This womans comments are too laugh at. There are people in all the counties, and states I have been that simply must put down others to seem more to themselves and they think to those listening. It used to get me going when they would put down my religion, heritage, or background, or even my brother (he usually deserved it but from me not them), now I try to walk away unnoticed or not to speak. I am prejudice my self and writing or speech like hers only reinforces a few of mine. The best thing though is I don’t have to answer nor confront her. Remember the old saying “sticks and stones my break my bone but names will never hurt me” not always true but what fun is it to battle wits with the unarmed.
Feyma
Hi Gerald Glatt – *** My wife Fe Piodos Glatt usually cleans our toilets, smells good to me. *** — I like what you just said. It just proves that not all that cleaned toilets smells bad at all.
I like your stories and your thoughts. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for stopping by here. Have a wonderful day!
Luke Tynan
It is a shame that someone would think so highly of themselves to say something that shows the world how poor and lowly she really is. Since when is making a honest living, trying to raise a family is to be looked down on. When I was younger I did this very same work to support my family. And I look at it with pride because I did what was needed to be a good father, husband and citizen. That lady should be ashamed of herself. How dare she!
brenton
Hi Feyma – She really did trash the Pinoy people. Interesting the Indian, Singapore and American mix. A random unproven theory I will propose. Friends from Singapore have said that culturally they have a slight superiority complex about being better than the Malaysian people and that money makes people look up to you. In Indian society if you’re from a high caste, then naturally culturally you are born to believe you’re above others. If you are an American, you are as many people say “from the greatest country in the world” a strong sense of pride for country. Maybe she got the best of all three cultures rolled into one. Lol. Bad form though to trash talk the way she did on facebook. When I read the comments initially, I couldn’t help but think, damn that will make a lot of people angry.
Feyma
Hi brenton – True enough. She really thinks highly of herself. Her assumption of being high and mighty gets her in trouble. She was fired by her employer. I hope she learn her lessons to think twice now of what she will say. People now knows how to fight back. It will be harder for her to find another job. She should show remorse and compassion.
Happy to see you here. Have a great day!
Tom P.
Most of the cases of Domestic worker enslavement here in the USA have been Bosses of Indian origin.
A few really spectacular ones in Florida and Lousiiana in the last few years. Usually of Indonedian workers.
Given the abuses of the Indian Caste system, it is sadly not surprising.
Thank goodness for those who come here to the usa and give up those rasist issues.
Feyma
Hi Tom P. – Thank you for sharing your comment her. I really appreciate very much.
Have a great day!
zedo
Most “Indians” in Singapore are Tamils. They are black skinned. This girl is a mixed girl.
Feyma
Hi zedo – To be honest I don’t really care what color skin she had. She should just be happy for who ever person won the pageant.
I’m really hoping she got the message now, especially she just lost her job.
Take care!
Bob Martin
For me, Luke, all of my life, I have done whatever is necessary to support myself and my family. Cleaning toilets? NO problem! I’ll do it, if that is what I need to do to take care of my family. This woman is just crazy with her words.
Rich N Colita
Yes I feel the same way, whatever for the family, perhaps the lady is a bit jealous of Filipinas.
Bob Martin
I think you are right Rich.
Louie Velasquez
it is a shame Bob, that this world still has people like this
Axel
Just this: Those who do clean toilets, be it Filipinos, from India or what ever: They deserve the biggest respect of all.
I give more respect to a toilet cleaner than to someone who just sit on their flat and do nothing useful.
Bob Martin
Yes, I agree Louie Velasquez. There is no place for that kind of talk.
Romilyn Mocoy
hello bob..
Bob Martin
Hello.
Romilyn Mocoy
how are you bob?? long time no talk..
Don
I believe she is a teacher in SG and actually has Pinoy bosses. Anyway, given SGs intolerance for racist comments, sacked already.
Feyma
Hi Don – I heard she had Pinoy bosses and got fired. But didn’t know that she’s a teacher. I would not want my kids on her class that’s for sure.
Thank you fro your comment. Good to see you here!
Bob Martin
I am doing fine, hope you are too.
Romilyn Mocoy
tnx..i am..
Bob New York
When I read the comments of Devina Dediva, my thought about it is, she is only showing her own ignorance.
Feyma
Hi Bob – Totally agree with you.
Take care!
Rosanna P. Kuivenhoven
It should be the job of the webmaster to keep the site clean almost all sites have nasty comments, Oo?
Romilyn Mocoy
oohh??
jade
Sounds like she is not a “real” philipina, with the heritage and upbringing this entails..
Too bad the Philippines had to settle for this impostor for their “first”.
Sincerely,
Jade
MindanaoBob
In what way is she not a “real” Filipina? As far as I’m concerned she is as real as it gets. Under the Philippine Constitution she is a natural born Philippine Citizen.
jade
OK, Sorry, Bob, I must have misinterpreted what I thought I had read…
jade
Furthermore, no additional comment on this fiasco; simply not worthy of my time.
zedo
You don’t look like one either Jade, if that is your photo in that profile
Rosanna P. Kuivenhoven
yes?
Lenny
Some people Kill … Some people mame……Some beat their children…SOME ARE JUST CRAZY…..Of course this woman has a screw loose…
Feyma
Hi Lenny – Yep, needs tightening a bit. I really hope she learn from it though. Especially now she lost her job over her stupid comment.
I appreciate your comment. Good to see you here again. Take care!
Bill Bernard
I wonder why her toilet smells so bad?
Feyma
Hi Bill Bernard – Her attitude and her toilet smells the same. Hope she clean out both thoroughly.
Thank you for the comment!
Jack
Does that mean all people smell like the toilet after cleaning it because I never noticed
I didn’t realize I smelled like that after cleaning mine, must check the next time……whatever that smells like!
David Thurber
How could anybody say that about Miss World. Jealousy really is not confined to races anymore. Shame on her!
Bob Martin
I think you hit the nail on the head, David Thurber.

Boss
I dunno about Miss World ever cleaning toilets, all I know is our maid is pretty and does a great job cleaning our bathrooms. She smells alright after she’s finished I guess.
Yet in light of the controversy this Singapore girl created, we have now renamed our maids as
‘Home Assistants’ as an upgrade their status.
Feyma
Hi Boss – I doubt if she’s cleaning toilets here in the Philippines. I’m pretty sure she had people do it for her.
*** all I know is our maid is pretty and does a great job cleaning our bathrooms. She smells alright after she’s finished I guess. *** — The bathroom of that Dediva must really smells horrible if her maids smells so bad after cleaning. Like you when our helper cleaned our toilets, she’s not smelling bad coming out from the bathroom.
I like the name you gave to your maids “Home Assistants”. Nice!!!
Thank you for dropping by. Have a good day!
Vinnie Jones
Howcome Arnold Clavio wasn’t sanctioned for his racist comments against fairer complexions? We all know what he meant to say yet the whole country pretty much backed him up but when something is done to the kayumangis they kick and scream like undisciplined children
Feyma
Hi Vinnie Jones – Is that the guy from the morning show at GMA 7? If he did say what you just said. It shocked me because he is a brown skin guy too.
I will have to check out about what you just posted. That’s a shocker. since he is from the media.
Thank you for your comment. Keep reading here!
Malcolm Mac
Just another jealous old wrinkly…
Bob Martin
Ha Ha… seems so, Malcolm Mac.
PapaDuck
Mrs Feyma,
Ignorance and jealousy is all it is, plain and simple. While we were visiting Singapore, which is a very clean city, we visited the Little India section. We noticed that it was not nearly as clean as the rest of the city we visited. Just a little tidbit of info.
Feyma
Hi PapaDuck – Totally, I agree. Hey, thank you for sharing your experienced there in Singapore.
Have a great day. Hello to Ann!
Mark Fulwell
I don’t pay much attention to beauty pageants, but if she was born in the USA, shouldn’t she have entered as Miss USA instead?
Bob Martin
She is a dual citizen. She can choose either country.
Mark Fulwell
I stand corrected. Thanks, Bob! How are you by the way?
Richie R.
Hi Feyma, I understand your feelings, I mean myself and my wife were overjoyed that Megan won the Miss World contest, we even saw a repeat of the whole show. This lady from Singapore is probably not aware that we´re living in the 21st Century.Did you ask her what planet she came from?? I believe some Singaporeans of Indian decent think they are better than even the Indians from India….but whatever the case she was wrong to make stupid racist comments like that, so she needs to go back into the hole she crept out of.!!
Feyma
Hi Richie R.- After the controversy I watched the show a few times. I’m not sure what planet Dediva is in. It sure lead her to big trouble though. she will suffer for awhile, she will have a hard time looking for a job. Hopefully she learn big time from it now. Hopefully she will just zip her mouth next time.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts here. Have a fine day!
Cheers!
Bob Martin
I am doing great, Mark, hope you are too.
zedo
First of all, there is no “race” called Indian. It is a generic term loosely applied to people from Indian subcontinent. They are themselves divided into multiple racial groupings. Secondly, this lady is not even “native blooded” Indian, but something of a mixed heritage herself,
Feyma
Hi Zedo – Thank you for the heads up.
Have a great day!
corjo
Really who cares? Pinoys are no better or no worse than any other race.
Racism is just a daily fact of life. Just another of the many nasty things in life that need fighting.
Facebook should remove the comments and ban the commenter.
On the subject of Miss World Is that still going on ? Thought it had been stopped or was that Miss Universe?
Whatever don’t you find it demeaning to women? Myself I don’t know. Just don’t seem to ever have the time to watch that sort of T.V. garbage anyway
Feyma
Hi corjo – That’s your opinion to not care and we respect that. Many people care and we’ll respect that too. I’m one of them. Since I was asked by my kids.
Thank you for stopping by!
zedo
Filipino women are beautiful. Every one of them should win miss world…..
Feyma
Hi zedo – Thank you.
Cheers!

Feyma contrary to what she said majority of filipino maids working abroad earned a highest level of education like Bachelors degree, nurses, or even a dentist who just graduated from University , i know this bcoz she’s my friend and also working here in HK as an OFW , her reason why she applied for a job as a foreign domestic worker here is to save enough money to build her own dental clinic at home , that’s why when i read those racist comments from this woman, i can’t help but shake my head and pray that someday all those remarks will not put her and her family into a shameful and disgraceful situation, i also heard that she’s been fired from her job as an assistant teacher by her Filipino supervisor in Singapore.
Feyma
Hi Rebecca – I hear you and agree with you that lots of OFW were mostly college graduates. I met one lady before at the airport, and she was a DH in Hongkong. She used to be a Math teacher here in the PI. She told me that after few years of working in HK her employer’s bringing her to Canada and continue working for them. I could see the excitement in her eyes. She’s proud to be working there. Similar stories what you just mentioned happening to our OFW people. At least they worked really hard to get what they want in life.
I think her comment starts to bite her in her rear end. Yeah I heard she was fired by her Filipino employer. It’s going to be harder for her to get another job right away with the controversy she’s in. She should be on the apology mode right now. People are forgiving.
Take care Rebecca and good to see you here. Have a good weekend ahead!

““Devina DeDiva is a Singaporean national of Indian origin””
Should not be a surprise. There has been a strong anti-foreign sentiment in Singapore and if you’re from a “third world” country, there is more scorn. Singaporean companies are increasingly preferring “foreign talents” because they complain less despite being paid less and have less of a “kiasu” mentality but geared towards “team work”(as opposed to the Singaporean “kiasu”)
Feyma
Hi The Mouse – Thank you for sharing here.
Have a great day!
jade
For what it is worth… This is a photo taken of my wife Daisy and me taken in 2005. We have been married inthe Philippines since July 25, 2009 and have very been together exclusively since July 21, 2001. Daisy is a natively born philipina; ancestry from Laguna and Bicol. Her mother was a tailor and her father was a farm worker they married and lived in in Laguna. (don’t know where then look it up) Daisy is a true philipina; generous in every way modest and not self serving. That is what I love her as I am the same way.
We don’t look philipino? Well I don’t, I’m US. Daisy, my wife is 100% philipina. STRONG HERE… SHE HAS BEEN ACCUSED OF HAVING ‘CHINKY’ EYES… , well maybe she had some Chinese ancestor, ok, so what, she is ultimately beautiful to me…
Is that enough?
Feyma, please respond to your own blog… Don’t let Bob stomp all over you…
jade
This was to be a response to “ZEDO” 10-10-13 – 0702
Sorry ZEDO you are right, always right¨!!!!!!!!
Feyma
Hi jade – Everyone is free to comment here, just don’t use bad languages and don’t demean others too. I am free to say what I want to say. Bob will not tell me what to say, I tell you that. Nobody will dictate me what I would like to say here or anywhere. Bob is free to say what he wants to say too.
Have a great day!
jade
Feyma, I hope that you do not think that I use bad language because I never do or will, I just do not feel that that the elite of other countries even those with philipino ‘genre’s ‘ can use the Philippines for internaterntional recognition.
OH, HELL IT’S ONLY A ‘BEAUTY CONTEST’
I GIVE UP…
MindanaoBob
I am not stopming on anybody, jade. I am free to post comments on the blog that I own. You posted comments on Feyma’s article, why can’t I?
Don
I just received a text message from my club that they want harleys and classic cars to escort her through Makati at 1pm today, unfortunately I have to work and there is a typhoon bearing down on us. Hope they reschedule as it would not be good to do a parade in the middle of a typhoon.
John Miele
Feyma:
That attitude is pretty common towards Filipinos in places with a lot of OFWs. They are often treated or thought of in the same way that Mexicans are often treated in the USA. (Unfortunate, but true).
It usually is a result of sheltered, moneyed, ignorant existence. Much of Indian society is rigid within the officially abolished but still practiced caste system. What is so ironic is that Indians themselves often face the same types of comments. In the UAE, I remember an Arab that refused to be treated by an Indian doctor. He would rather die than let the doctor touch him (The hospital forced treatment and then told the paper)
You see the same thing here among the wealthier classes of Filipinos… And some wealthier American classes… And wealthier British classes… ad nauseum
Feyma
Hi John – It’s just sad that any human beings be treated like that. Just sad many people so judgmental to others.
Really? Wow, he would rather die than be treated by the Indian doctor? That’s also a big insult to the doctor. Too many racist in this world. And I think it’s getting worse.
Have a great weekend!

Sorry ZEDO you are right, always right¨!!!!!!!!
jade
Ok, so I have now been told.
Ok I agree in legal principle….
But in the spirit of the “game” the whole thing is for what?…
Daisy is the queen of the Philippines for me…
jade
Let us hope that any future “Miss Philippines” will come from only the elite… as only they are deserving…
MindanaoBob
I sure don’t understand your attitude on this article, Jade. Is something bothering you?
jade
No, Bob I’m ok. I just don’t like what beauty contests have become.
I’ll limit my comments in the future to subjects that I understand.
Have a nice day.
Jade
MindanaoBob
For the life of me, I can’t understand why you attacked me, saying that I was “stomping on Feyma”. What do you think I did to her? All I did was reply to some of my friends’ comments here on the site. Do you feel I am not allowed to do that?
jade
I am sorry for that.
But I do like Feyma’s comments more than yours, no offence intended though, she, it seem is able to relax more and compose her replies, as yours appear to be hurried and not as well thought out… you have a lot to do and can’t spend an hour to produce the most politically correct response to molycoddle commenter like me who may have an agenda…
Bless Feyma and her thought provoking blog’s.
OK?
Jade
Aklan Heat
hi feyma,
yes, indeedy! hurray for the miss philippines, the miss world 2013! it’s about time ever! from what i gather this is the first for the philippines in sixty-some years since this pageant, miss world, began in u.k.! megan young, indeed, made filipino history! and good for her, and she had promised that she’s gonna be “the best miss world ever.” wow!!! and i think i would like to believe her!
btw, that devina ‘whatever her name is/was,’ is an ignoramus! haha!!
salamat!
Feyma
Hi Aklan Heat – Well said… We still celebrate despite the controversy. We don’t care really. The judges from the pageant gave Megan the title so that’s enough from us here. Mabuhay Philippines!!!
*** btw, that devina ‘whatever her name is/was,’ is an ignoramus! haha!! *** — Ha ha ha… Super. LOL.
Good to see you here!
