I was just browsing through my FB news feed and saw the wall of my dear friend Sharon. Just reading what’s on her wall got me thinking. I’ve receive too many junk text too, mostly I don’t even read it I just deleted it automatically. It’s so annoying to received almost half a dozen text or more in a day. Sometimes you’re busy working on something then when you hear your phone beeping telling you that you got text and when you checked it’s just another one of those junk. Geez, you really want to scream. LOL
Anyway the message on my friend’s wall that she posted to the right said: As you can read on the big and bold writing. The problem if you reply to the number that was given. Then you are sending the person the load that they are asking. See here in the Philippines you can call anybody with your cell phone just using a pre-paid sim-card. What that means, you will buy a cell phone and buy the sim-card (either SUN Cellular, GLOBE, SMART, TALK “N” Text) separately. Every cell phone provider had their own promotional ad to lure the customers. Like us in our household, we all have Sun sim pack because they had a good deal right now. For Php 150, you can text unlimited for the whole month with 4 hours call to the other Sun cellular number. If you pay Php 200, you will get the same promo plus you have 1000 free text to the other network provider. If you pay Php 450, you can call and text unlimited to the other Sun cellular number plus free 50 text to other network provider.
Lets move on to the text at right: Wonder why it’s a scam? Well if you follow what the text were saying, you are giving that person a load worth Php 300 pesos out from your load or your pocket. If you are on the post paid account and if someone texted you and said what it says below to text the 300 to the number that they gave you. Then you’re giving. You see, if you do nothing, you have actually lost nothing, it is all a lie. If you follow the instructions in the text, then you are helping the scammer steak P300 from you! See that big writing that says: Txt 300 8888 Send to 29771907587
The 300 pesos load goes to the number like that one sample they have. The way we know its passing load or they called it here pasa load because of the text 300 and the 8888 was the code for passing the load. Plus the number 2 in the beginning of the cell phone number means that’s passing of the load. Regular beginning number of the cell phone number should begins with 0 or +63.
Too many scams going on the cell phone right now. Some they even says that they got transferred to other place or they got accidents and they want you to give them load. Some scam even text you in Tagalog. If you don’t know what the text meant have someone interpret for you. It’s better to know what the context of the text than assuming it.
Anyway, beware of the scumbag again. Don’t fall for it.
Cheers!

My wife and I plan on visiting the RP next year for 6 weeks. I do not plan on bringing our phone. What would be the best and cheapest way for us to have a phone in the PR so we can contact our family in Canada & the US?
Feyma
Hi Allan – To be honest lots of cheap phones here in the Philippines to chose from. BTW, you can just buy sim-card (Sun, TM, Smart, Globe & Talk “n” Text) and load (whatever sim-card you’re buying that’s also the electronic-load or cell phone card your buying). Skype is also good here too. Most internet cafe’s now has skype too.
Good luck on your trip and have fun. Have a wonderful day!

You need UNLOCKED Phone to be able to use Sim Card, any phone purchased abroad or there will do Feyma!

Mrs Feyma,
We receive those texts all the time and just delete them. I’m sure there are some that follow the instructions of the text and thats what the scammer is hoping for.
Feyma
Hi PapaDuck – Good for you. Very smart.
*** I’m sure there are some that follow the instructions of the text and thats what the scammer is hoping for. *** — That’s why I wrote this article to let people be aware of it. I know some people fall for it. Too many scumbag lurking around.
Always good to see you here. Have a pleasant day!

I wish I could get off the telemarketing list for every condo developer in Manila, and there are a lot of em. I block them but they keep using different numbers.
Feyma
Hi Don – I might have gotten the same. I think on mine it just went directly to spam. LOL… Hit delete forever right away. Annoying…
They might stop if you bought the condo. 🙂 🙂
Nice to see you here. Have a great day!

Feyma
Hi Stephen – Thank you so much.

We dumped the land line and now get almost no junk phone calls or scams. Also that did save us some money every month. Feyma you do supply some of the most useful information for people moving to the Philippines. My plans have been slightly derailed this month when I fell and had to replace my hip……I am back on my feet but it will be weeks before I can even try to work let alone travel. I haven’t seen all the bills yet but you could now call me the two million peso man…. and still counting. Insurance is good!!!
Feyma
Hi Don – Thank you so much. I’m glad you find my post helpful. Sorry to hear about your mishap. Hope for your recovery soon.
*** I haven’t seen all the bills yet but you could now call me the two million peso man…. and still counting. Insurance is good!!! *** — Enjoy then before seeing your bills. Glad you had good insurance.
Hoping for the best for you. Stay safe. Take care!

Wow, that would have caught me at least one time if you didn’t say anything about it. Though before when I was using talk and text, I would just load what I needed like 100P at a time. so i would never really had that much load available at any given time.
I can’t remember, do you get charged for texts that was sent to you? or just for the texts you send?
Feyma
Hi James – Good that your load were below the amount that they were asking. You can’t pass load then.
Here in the Philippines you’re charged on the text you send.
Good to see you here again. Thank you for the comment. Have a nice day!

I’ve been getting this text and others similar to it for a while now – and I always DELETE!
Another variation is that you have won a special one-time 40% discount on your next (Globe) bill. To redeem, reply to the text. I thought at the time “if Globe wants to give me a discount, then they’d just do it – why text me?”
In short: If it looks fishy, it IS.
