While doing some browsing around YouTube, I came across a nice series of videos from a user called “Happy Slip” – Happy Slip is a Filipina, but was born and raised in the USA. She has a series of six videos showing her experience of her first visit to the Philippines.
In her first video, Happy Slip spends her time in Manila, her first stop on her Philippine tour. You can tell by her commentary that she really enjoyes the Philippines, and is reveling in her first trip to her country of ancestry. For her second video in the series, Happy Slip is in Bohol, and she sees all the famous sites of Bohol: the Tarsier, Chocolate Hills, beach resorts and a lot of other Bohol experiences. Have a look, Experience Philippines #2:
For episode 3, Happy Slip starts off with a Jeepney Ride (her first), she mixes in some comedy that is pretty funny. For this video she is in Cebu, and she shares plenty of sites around Cebu City for you to enjoy! Have a look:
For additional episodes (six in all) you can see them on YouTube, but these first three will give you a nice view into the first visit to the Philippines of a Filipina. I really enjoyed watching her video journal of her trip, and I hope that you did too!

I've been following Happy Slip for the last year and I agree; she is funny and very talented. You should also check out some of her videos on her website or You Tube (or as her mother says "You Choob").
I'd be interested to see what Filipinos think of her humor when she makes fun of her family members; do they think it's funny? or as her Dad says; "Da-zass-turr" (disaster)?

i have seen happyslip videos on you tube.some are kinda silly with the family members but when she is a little more serious she is talented for sure.i remember my first trip to manila i really didnt have a clue what i was getting myself into.wow culture shock 😯

Hi Ron W – On her trip videos that I featured here, I would say that Happy Slip was rather serious in Video 1 and 2, then kind of funny (silly?) in Video 3 in Cebu. I enjoyed both sides of her, and I think that she is talented whether she goes for the serious side or the silly side. They both have value!

The neat thing about the 'net is there is always something new to find. Mita and I have been reading Christine's blog since way back when she first started tinkering with audio and then video. She's indeed a talented person and certainly points up some of the conflict and concerns about being brought up Filipino in a non-Filipino world.
It's certainly not only Chris's mom who says Choob … T is pronounced 'Ch' by a great many folks here … there's a brand of commercially distributed bag sof ice sold all over Luzon (perhaps other areas too) called Tube Ice … (the cubes have hole inside, stacked up they would form a tube, and are supposed to cool drinks faster because of more surface area exposed) … but don't ask for it at your friendly sari-sari store as "Tube" Ice, it is "Choob Ice" … it's very likely no one will understand a request for the 'tube' pronunciation.
Nearby there is a store that advertises "Ice, Tube and Cube" so I guess that's Ice, Choob and Cube 😉 … I'll have to ask my brother-in-law whose name is Teodoro but is never called anything except Teody … pronounced Chody … always something new to learn 😉

Hi Dave Starr – Ha ha… Good catch there on the t=ch thing… it is so true. Also, "ts" automatically is "ch" – like tsokolate (chocolate) and such. A tsunami is a choonami. It's OK, the Brits laugh at how we Americans pronounce things too. 😆
I've been watching Happy Slip videos for a long time and she's very talented. She's definitely a professional and artistic in her presentations. Her website is on my favorites list, next to yours of course, Bob!

Yup, Christine Gambito "Happy Slip" is sooo funny! Someone sent me a link to one of her videos and I watched every one of them, rolling with laughter! I find her impersonation of her family members very funny and very true. Reminds me of some Filipino characters I've had the pleasure to meet. 😆
FYI, she was appointed ambassador for tourism by the Philippine Department of Tourism back in January. These videos may have been taken during her tour of the Philippines for the DOT.
If I remember correctly, she is a nurse but decided that acting (comedy) and the Net was more her thing. More power to her!!!

Actually, I didn't really know anything about Christine before, I just found a few of her Vids on YouTube, and liked them, so I decided to share them here. She seems to have created a successful niche for herself, and I'm glad that she seems to be enjoying herself!
