Last week, I received an e-mail from a fellow named Rommel. Rommel is a Filipino and a very nice fellow. Here is the e-mail he sent to me:
Hi Bob,
Totally enjoying your site! I’ve worked in MNC’s over the past years and had a lot of expat bosses and ALL of them enjoyed the Philippines!
Just wanted to share a bit of music from my band, with some scenes from Metro Manila. It’s actually inspired by expats living in the Metro!
So, this morning, I wanted to share Rommel’s band’s video. I really thought it was a great song!

Thank you, Rommel for sharing your song with us, I really enjoyed it. Very professional and enjoyable to me. And, thank you for your note, and for the friendship that you have obviously offered to foreigners here in the Philippines!

Make a donation to this year’s LiP Christmas Drive!
Side note from MindanaoBob – Would you like to help out with this year’s LiP Christmas Giveaway? Every year we go somewhere in Mindanao and distribute food and gifts to poor people who need it. For the past 4 years or so, the readers of this site have helped by making donations to the Giveaway, which are used to buy food and gifts for distribution. 100% of the money donated is used to purchase these items to give to the poor, there are no administrative costs or anything like that. If you can spare a few dollars, it would be greatly appreciated by me and certainly by those who will receive the help during Christmas. No gift is too small or too large! Any help is appreciated. Thank you, and Merry Christmas to all who are part of the LiP family!
Hi Bob;
What a pleasent way to start my day, Both the song and the video were excellent. Please pass my thanks to Rommel and the members of his band and kudos to them, I hope they gain commercial success in the future.
Hi Paul – I enjoyed the music and video too. And, the fact that it was inspired by expats, well, that makes it even better! Congrats to Rommel and his band for putting out an excellent production!

Hi Peter – Nice to hear from you! Merry Christmas. Yes, I can understand how the video could make you feel homesick and miss your wife here! I hope you will be united with her soon!
Very nice but way too short. I enjoyed it.
Hi Gary – I also felt it was short, but enjoyed what there was of it.
Wow that reminded of my recent trip to PI. I did not recognize any of those areas, but watching TFC, I get to see areas I went to, even Tagatay as well. Also I have two friends named Rommel here, both Local born Fil-Ams, that have never been to PI yet.
Hi Jay – I hope you enjoyed your trip to the Philippines.
Hi Bob, thanks for featuring us! We’re in the process of making an album and we’re finding that this track seems to be our defining sound!
Apologies for the video being short – it’s just a sample of that track. Here’s a longer version – our producer friend made a “house remix” of the track :

We’re giving away copies of this track. Please do email us at alien.mojo@yahoo.com for your free mp3!
Thanks again!
Hi Rommel – Thanks for sharing your video with us here on LiP, it seems that people like your sound, I know I do!
Rommel,
Super job! Very professionally done. The sound is very enjoyable and fits the video perfectly. Please let us know when your album is completed. If you don’t mind where in Manila do you live? Also could you please keep us updated on your band. Good luck on your album. Have a nice day.
Bob thanks alot for allowing him to post the video.
Happy to share, Papa Duck! It’s a great song and video! I am sure Rommel is and should be quite proud!
Hi Papaduck, thanks for the nice words.
I live in Las Pinas but work in Libis, QC.
1 more sample from the band – this reveals our funky 70’s influences – Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock, and , gasp, James Last ! (elevator shoes not included)

I went to check out the video, Rommel, but the link doesn’t work. It says something about “wrong ID number.”
hi Bob, sorry about that (I think the site needs a registration)
Here’s an alternate

Rommel,
Man that song is super. Really sounds nice! Does your band play in clubs and other places. Wouldn’t mind seeing you play in person when i come next year. Take care and keep up the good work.
i’m hearing john cougar mellencamp chords in the song fragment, bob! ” )

I’m not sure, Biz Doc, I am more of a country music fan. But, I did enjoy the song, the sound is great! Now, if I could just get Rommel to come up with some Davao songs… 😉
