I am a certified news junkie! I just enjoy keeping up with what is going on in the world around me. When I lived in the USA, I primarily enjoyed keeping up with US news, although I would keep up with the major world stories as well. Now that I live in the Philippines, I enjoy keeping up with US News and Philippine News, with World News as a “headlines only” type of thing.
For Philippine news, I particularly enjoy watching ANC (ABS-CBN News Channel, Channel 44 on SkyCable in Davao). They tend to have relatively up to date Philippine news there. For World news, I find CNN International the best. However, as I said, on World Headlines, I don’t keep up as in depth as I do for US and Philippine news.
For US News, Fox is my favorite source. However, last year (I think it was around July) I got dealt a little blow when it came to my US News monitoring… Fox News was taken off the air here! It had been available on satellite only (no cable coverage for Fox News), over the Dream TV Network, but it was dropped from the lineup. Because of this, there is a void when it comes to US News. I know, you are saying to watch CNN. However, CNN International is what is available here, and not the normal CNN that airs in the USA. The coverage is way different, with only a small amount of US news coverage available over CNN International.
When they dropped Fox, I cut off my subscription to Dream TV and just went with cable, which is cheaper. The main thing I watched on the satellite was Fox News anyway. In addition, I had both Satellite and Cable TV in my house anyway. Why pay for both, when neither has the main channel I wanted to watch?
I still get US news, primarily over the Internet, but I do miss my Fox News! Maybe it will be back someday, but I doubt it will anytime soon.
Macky P
Hi Bob,
I found myself impressed with the BBC news channel when I visited Davao. Their new specials where very good and I enjoyed the different prespective of events happening in the world (BBC's European view of the war in Iraq for instance). I also got to learn more about the goings on from Africa and Asia that would be filtered out here in the US. very refreshing and professional.
I am a CNN watcher here but sometimes I wonder how things are preceived outside this country (US). Too much "home team" banter and Britney Spears. More in-depth stories of issues like Darfur, East Timorand EU topics would be nice. My opinion only.
Bob
Hi Macky – I agree fully with what you say. I watch BBC and CNN International. They are great sources for International News. However, sometimes I want to follow what is happening in the USA, and there really is no TV outlet here to get that news any longer. I want three news providers – A Philippine News source (ANC); International News (BBC or CNNI) and an American News source (none available).
Macky P
Yup, I see your point. Interesting tidbit for me here, if I may digress a little.
Even if Philippine local news (ABS-CBN) is shown here in the States on basic cable. I tend to prefer getting my Philippine news from the net. I sense more balanced news online. The Pinoy TV news broadcasts seem to move toward "tabloid-ish" news.
Unlike here in the States, where journalistic integrity is still important, a lot of the Philippine anchors and correspondents seem to use their airtime as a stepping stone to a political career (all the way to the senate and VP). I feel i need to research and read a lot of editorials and columnists to get a balanced idea of a certain issue. the city papers (Davao) can be even worse sometimes.Even a few not very PC terms slip into the headlines every now and then.
Still, I'm a sucker for the news too and read/watch all of them. It's exactly how I found your site!
my apologize for straying a bit off topic.
Bob
Hi Macky – that's not off topic! No need to worry. I had not thought about the fact that being a news anchor tends to be a stepping stone toward a political career, but it's true. Two of the brightest examples would be Noli de Castro and Lauren Legarda. And, there are a lot of tabloid type stories on the air here too. I believe that a lot of US news outlets are headed this direction too, though. ๐
Dexter Zaf
Hi Bob,
CNN is my favorite source of cable news now. Fox is heavily favor towards the republicans, and I can't take watching Hannity and Colmes as well as O'Reilly. In the other hand my favorite CNN is starting to favor the democrats which turned me off.
Bob
Hi Dexter – For me, I like Fox. They do offer conservative views, but they have liberal views to counterbalance too. For example, you mentioned Hannity & Colmes. Hannity is conservative, while Colmes in Liberal. They balance each other, and you hear both sides.
John
Not often i disagree with my friend Bob, but I find FOX news dangerous . It is so right wing and sensational in its approach it really does not do the Americans justice, especially in the world now where wrongly or rightly the USA is very low in popularity.
As a brit even i find the BBC boring but factual, however I prefer to watch the big events on CNN, and as for ABS CBN, I now stop watching it.
macky
topic: news junkies …. foxnews v. cnn v. bbc….o'reilly, hannity….hmm,
we could be in for some interesting discussions.
I steer clear of foxnews. I get what Bob means but I've noticed some biased reports that made me second guess them. I think that whole "ra ra go USA" thing and the flag on the background during the Iraqi war made me feel uncomfortable as a non-American. I admire that old-fashioned school of journalism and wasn't sure if they could offer any criticism of the US side if need be. It felt very insulated.
Still, I see some very respected journalists who have filed reports for foxnews. It's the overall feel that just gets me. Oh, and I can't stand that jerk O'Reilly.
BBC is refreshing when I get the chance to watch them because of the outsider's perspective of things. I like CNN too, but they've been trying too hard lately to woo the young demographic because of the ratings war. Too much Larry King for my taste and I don't even know who Glenn Beck bribed to get the job. That guy's an amatuer.
This sounds crazy, but the Daily show with Jon Stewart has some enlightened reporting too. Their guests interviews are great and they come from both sides of the aisle. I
I lean liberal so I understand if others don't find this type of show their cup of tea.
Nowadays, my news is mostly from the internet. It's amazing to see unfiltered reports from around the globe and I base my opinions on the sum of it all.
Even local news has a lot of options. that nifty site, mindanao.com and a slew of online sites have helped shaped my opinion of things. I even visit websites of the the MILF, CPP/NPA and the Magdalo troops. It doesn't hurt trying to see how they see things.
Oh Crap, I did it again. long comment. sorry guys.
Bob
Hi John – We all have to disagree from time to time, at least we can be agreeable about it, though!
Hi Macky – I really do long for a US source of news, something that is more "pro-US" than CNN International. I haven't found it yet….
Ron LaFleur
I find it interesting that Fox is branded so much as being republican. First what if you happen to have republican viewpoints? I watch FOX and CNN. What turns me off about FOX is all of the yelling that seems to be ingrained into the programming. I want news not argues opinions as a steady diet of my news. Bob your there and you are not getting CNN and I have to tell you that you are missing out on something great. Lou Dobbs is amazing. If CNN is supposed to be liberal they have not gotten that message to Mr. Dobbs. Hes worth watching-if you can't see his show read his blog on CNN you will be impressed. Common sense is what he is all about. Hopefully soon we can all just log onto the channels we desire to watch and see them live on our computer screens-I think were getting there. Ron
macky
You guys are right. It’s the loud pundits and the yelling that poses as debaes that are irritating and tiresome.
Hi Kevin,
I actually based my opinion on FOXnews all to myself and noticed a reporting i am not comfy with. I like hearing both sides of the story and tried to watch other news channels. CNN does have an independent Dobbs and conservative Beck (one is smart the other just a hack). MSNBC isn’t bad but sometimes the news reporting disappears (Olberman is a plus though). It’s just a preference of mine.
I wouldn’t want to watching a channel that is a pseudo cheerleader of any party (Dem or GOP). So I judge it by the reporter’s integrity. Wolf Blitzer, Cooper and correspondents like Ammanpour are what I go for.
Still the US news channels place too much importance to pop culture (Philippine news channels are doubly guilty of this). I like my entertainment news as a nice distraction, but britney and paris shouldn’t be headlining a news report and then be on rotation the whole day. Call me crazy, but I think Iraq and Darfur should get more attention.
I also notice that CNN international has more in depth global news than it’s US counterpart. I now feel that the news is heavily filtered in the States — something I never would have imagined before.
Hi Mahdy,
You are not alone ๐ it’s interesting that almost all the pinoys I’ve met here in the US are liberal bent. But I spend most of my time in California and New York and that could be the reason. I notice that a lot of them are in their 20’s to mid 30’s and the conservative ones are older too.
Paul
News Junkie? Oh, yes! Get most of my news via internet news sites & internet-versions of major newspapers. Only yelling I get is from the asawa to get off the computer! ๐
Mahdy
My husband, Jon, is the news junkie between the two of us. He watch TV news all the time and I can't avoid it. I like to balance the news with other TV shows like documentaries (NGC,Discovery Ch.). We both watch the CNN here in US and the MSNBC. Sometimes we wonder to the BBC but MSNBC is our main one. For Filipino news, I got it from internet. I choose not to subscribe for a Filipino TV channel it's an additional expenses. Although, I did try to use the ABS-CBN online here in US for a couple of years ago. Since it's just 5$ a month, but then dropped that too because I hardly had time to used it (busy in my schooling& job at the same time plus blog hopping LOL). Now, I'm just using the http://www.inquirer.net/ website to get updated news about Philippines and use it as a homepage in my computer.
Macky, I'm glad to hear there is another Filipino who leans on the liberal side. It seems all Filipinos that I met here in the US are republican. It is just refreshing to know that I'm not alone ๐ .
rmada
Bob,
Fox is the republican party's mouthpiece and most of the time biased in their reporting on politics. Now that Rupert Murdoch's just purchased the Wall Street Journal I'm hoping that that he won't influence nor interefere with its editorial content like he does with his other newspapers.
Kevin K
I strongly disagree that Fox News is biased toward Republicans. I think people who say that are just repeating what is said by those who are "mouthpieces for the Democratic Party." I do agree that their opinion shows such as Hannity and Colmes have stronger personalities representing the right, but their straight news reporting is more complete and less "filtered" than the other news outlets.
For example, Fox News will use the word "terrorist" as opposed to "insurgent". If a person deliberately kidnaps, tortures and kills innocent children in order to terrorize a neighborhood into a certain behavior, they are by definition, terrorists. If an immigrant illegally sneaks into the country and murders someone, Fox News will note that murderer was illegally in the country. The other media outlets will leave that out. That is just more complete reporting of the story. To deliberately leave out significant parts of a story is bias. Suppose Americans entered Japan illegally and murdered Japanese citizens, and they had been arrested for other crimes earlier but the police had been instructed not to inquire as to their legal status. Does anyone honestly think that if Japanese news media deliberately left out those parts of the story, we would say that is superior journalism, and that if they mentioned it, we would say they were biased in favor of some Japanese political party? I agree with Bob, Fox News is OK.

Hi Bob and all:
No my friend. I am not a news junkie. In fact my most blissful days are usually days that do not include watching disturbing distorted bits of information that I certainly can live my life without.
More power to those of you that find it a need to keep informed.
When I am overcome by the insane compulsion to watch news I do watch the most objective news on the planet. The FOX NEWS CHANNEL. Now that should start the ball really rolling and get my backside royally toasted. Especially from Mahdy & Jon.
That is a joke guys & gals, although I do not enjoy watching even them on a consistent basis.
Take Care All.:wink::wink::wink:
Wayne A. Derby
I do like the ORielly Factor though. Now there is a guy that tells it like it is.
Bob
Hi Ron LaFleur – Actually, I tend to enjoy all the yelling! It shows that the people are passionate about what they are talking about!
Hi Paul – Of course, I also get a lot of news online as well. I do enjoy watching news on TV as well, though, although I feel that my choices are severely limited on that.
HI Mahdy – For Philippine news, I also like to read the Inquirer as well. I also enjoy watching ABS-CBN News Channel on TV as well, particularly if they speak enough English that I can understand basically what is going on.
HI rmada – Sorry, but I disagree with your opinion. That's what's great about democracy and freedom, though, we can disagree with each other while still remaining friends.
Hi Kevin K – I agree with your viewpoint about Fox being more balanced.
Hi Paul – Those are each good resources as well.
Hi Macky – I do agree with some of what you are saying. I like Wolf Blitzer, Anderson Cooper and Kristianne Ammanpoure too. I think that each of these people have integrity. But, on CNNI you don't see much of these folks, and I miss it. Yes, CNNI has more of an international tilt (as the name would imply!), but being an American, I'd like to have at least one news channel that has an "American tilt" to it. I miss that.
Hi Wayne – I'm with you! We just might get a full frontal attack on this one, though! ๐
Kevin K
Hi Macky,
I think that CNN's presentation of the news and their star reporters (Blitzer, Ammanpour, etc.) are done at a higher or more sophisticated level than FOX. For that matter, like the BBC or the American NPR, the vocabulary used is is also higher than FOX. However, the prism they view the world and its events are different than mine. It seems to me they are embarrassed to present anything that is pro-American or pro-western. It is through this self-conscious filter that they lose me. Sometimes I am also bothered by what seems to me to be an air of "know-it-allness" that dismisses points of view that differs from their's. I know it is that same attitude that turns a lot of people off about FOX's O'Reilly. I agree with him most of the time and he still bugs me.
Enough of that, since it is a Live in the Philippine blog. The thing that troubles me sometimes about Philippine news is how company press releases are presented in the papers as straight news. It is nice to see so many newspapers though, so more viewpoints.
Laurence
If you ask me there is way too much politics reported in the news and this is what has lead to the accusations of bias. I'm not interested in what opposing politicians think of each other….that's what the Parliament is for. Commercial news bulletins have been hijacked by both sides of politics for their own ends and frankly I'm not interested.
The only news I watch is Italian, Spanish and Chinese and even though I haven't the faintest idea what's going on, I enjoy the scenery. I used to watch the Filipino news (Telediyaryo) but it looks and sounds more like MTV than news.
mady(mahdy)
Hello All,
Aiii hahaha…Wayne, I'm an advocate of freedom and free will. This leads to my perspective that every person has a free choice. You know what, our TV wanders on different channel sometimes Jon will park it in FOX out of curiosity and I'm the one who doesn't want it park there, hahahaha. But I let him fill his curiosity. I'm not the news junkie… I can watch Discovery ch , National G or Animal Ch whole day not a news. By the way we love Joe Scarborough.
Paul, actually I was considering to include other Philippines news link you mention. I love the Star and Inquirer Newspaper, one in a magazine form kind of news but I forgot the name& Davao news channel back home. In fact, I have the Mindanaotimes as my homepage a couple months ago but I have to change it. It download so slowly that I have to wait for a long time before seeing anything sometimes it won't load ๐ฅ . See I'm desperate to see news and pictures of Davao and Tagum that I endure the Mindanaotimes for a couple of months. I would love to have a couple of different news website as homepage but this can't be done only in bookmarking:neutral:
Macky, Your right it is the State where we are in. BTW, My husband and I LOVE Keith Olbermann very much. Oh! Wayne, I think your wrong when you say "I do like the ORielly Factor though. Now there is a guy that tells it like it is." . I think it's Keith Olbermann ๐ hahahaha.
macky
Good points here… and, my gosh, so well behaved.
You're right,Bob. I realized we are in the same situation, transplants who crave for homecountry news.
In the local front, I mentioned journalistic credibility or an anchorman that you can trust. A latter day Cronkite, if you will.
In some ways, during the advent of live satellite news during the early 90's, ABS-CBN's Noli de Castro was that guy. The country turned to him for quality news and they loved him! They loved him so much that they voted him to office. Last I checked, being the country's Vice President doesn't do much for journalistic integrity.
Nowaday's a see a lot of gimmicky catch-phrases and quick camera cut-aways. more for the sake of higher ratings and ad revenue.
In the US, you can be sure that newsmen like Jennings, Brokaw, Koppel will retire in that same profession. You cannot say the same with journalists in the Philippines and that poses a lot of questions when they report the latest political scandal. You can be sure that the very person reporting the current election scandal has an eye on running in the next one. You can't be sure, but the validity of the report is at stake.
When a slew of councilors and the current VP are former press people, as well as the top vote-getting Senator and leading candidate for next President (Loren Legarda), How sure are you that you are getting balanced unbiased reporting?
Bob
Hi Kevin K. – I agree, CNN is more "slickly produced" than Fox News. I still like Fox News better!
Hi Laurence – You have a point about the politics!
Hi Mady – Did you know that O'Reilly and Olberman actually hate each other? It's true.
Hi Macky – Your observation is right, and I never thought of it either – we are both transplants looking for that little piece of home, but it eludes us!
rick
Bob
and Macky, thanks for the observations re the impartiality of journalists in the Phils, difficult one this for them and for the democratic process in the country………………
Bob, i learn regarding FOX and CNN, i am a brit and so, can't comment on that but as a foreigner (won't go there again Macky:smile:) i quite like CNN BUT BBC is so dry it is nearly dead, but i can get my fix there (like you Bob i'm a news junkie) twice daily
but i like the local news even though i can only get the gist of what is going on especially the guy who so seriously reports from "SOUTHERN MINDANAO" he is an ex class mate of my wife but i haven't met him yet, he is so serious i am looking forward to meeting him in person to see if he is like that in a social situation
Bob
Hi Rick – I thought I was the guy who reported from Southern Mindanao! I wasn't a classmate of your wife, though!! ๐
rick
Hi BOB
Yes you are our Southern Mindanao guru, but i was also talking about the guy who does the news at about 6pm local news on tv (forget the channel) i think you have seen him and oh……Bob, you are pulling my leg here but……i have seen my wifes classmates and i think you would fit right in there….they look a good bunch:grin:
Mahdy
Oh hahaha clarification on my comment to Wayne which is suppose to be a joke.
"Oh! Wayne, I think your wrong when you say “I do like the ORielly Factor though. Now there is a guy that tells it like it is.” . I think it’s Keith Olbermann hahahaha."
I meant to say "I think Keith is the guy who tells it like it is.". I'm just teasing ๐ and very true Bob that the two of them (Keith and O'Rielly) hate each other.
Mahdy
Hello Kevin, Just want clarification. What News Channel did you meant when you posted this "If an immigrant illegally sneaks into the country and murders someone, Fox News will note that murderer was illegally in the country. The other media outlets will leave that out. " Because just this week an Illegal Allien from the South was just caught murdering a couple of people from NJ and all the channels we've been hopping calls him Illegal Allien. Just wondering about this one since if you watch all the news channels they are all as one against illegal alliens invading US, how they invade and nothing has been done and so on. All channels labeled them Illegal alliens. Which causes the High schoolers to call everyone that doesn't look white or black Illegal Alliens, specially the Latino populations.
angie
I'm an information junkie but not a news junkie. I figured I don't need to know who killed who esp. as sensational news most of the time dominates the media… like when Scott Peterson's pregnant wife got murdered, that was the big-time news for many many months.
I liken news now to carefully crafted/packaged bits to be used as mind memes. If something is really newsworthy, one of my friends will email it to me with a blaring subject line. Then I will read it. If I do, most of it is done thru the internet. My TV is an artifact of a bygone age.
So as far as news is concerned, I belong to the minority. I "fetch" it based on a "need-to-know" as delivered to my radar by my circle of friends.
And I think the only other person who commented similarly is Wayne Derby… Welcome me, Wayne.
Jon
Actual news isn't very popular. Political bickering, nationalism, yelling, and tabloid-type stories are what are popular. If people actually wanted straight news outlets like PBS Jim Lerher or the BBC would be more popular. Both of these outlets are dry and still have an anchor sitting at a desk with essentially a blank wall behind them (no flags or cool graphics). News junkies are a relatively new species…myself included (though I'm on a 12 step plan to get off it). But I'm starting to realize I've been sucked in by sensationalized and opinionated crap. Why does anyone listen to O'reilly? I pose this question on very basic level — how does someone ever find a way to make millions of dollars spouting their very biased opinions? Nobody's paying me tons of money to hear my opinions (and most folks seem even less interested in facts I have to share with them). Or is it really his opinions that count? Maybe it's the controversy he stirs up?? People like controversy…taking sides, that sort of thing. Oh…but what happened to the news? Or is O'reilly the news? He would like to BE the news because it helps his ratings! (Bill won't mention Olberman's name on the air because it would help HIS ratings!). Actually, Olberman is quite the counterbalance to "Orally" as Keith calls him. But I often need to take out a dictionary after listening to him during his serious commentaries (I think he majored in journalism at Cornell). My favorite part of his show is "Oddball" which actually has nothing to do with politics and has to do with having fun (Bill doesn't seem to have actual fun…but he seems to enjoy being irritated and angry). As I've said before in a very long-winded post…cable news is morphing into entertainment not much different than watching Jerry Springer or other daytime talk shows. This is why many journalists are becoming fed up with their profession. Real news has been labled "unmarketable".
As a teacher I don't get a terrific sense that Americans actually want to gather lots of objective information and think about anything very deeply (though we Americans have very deep opinions about lots of stuff we don't think about very deeply)…I mean who has time to actually take the time to really study or research and look at stuff from various perspectives? Gosh..that sounds like a lot of work! Oh…did you see the latest on Paris or Brittney…."that was hot!" Besides, I don't need to spend the effort on digging deeply into anything — 'cause all I gotta do is flip on my favorite partisan blabber mouth who will tell me what my opinion should be on a wide range of topics so I don't have to do all that heavy lifting:lol:
angie
Hi folks,
Interesting thread, now that I had time to catch up. Someone mentioned Peter Jennings. I so loved Peter Jennings, he was one of the few I revered.
By the way, Peter Jennings is already dead, in case you missed that news ๐ He died of lung cancer two years ago, on August 7, 2005.

Jon,
I like your commentary, re. #31. And I agree with you about PBS. Now there's a TV channel I don't mind watching and supporting. And I do, watch it as time allows.
"(Bill doesn’t seem to have actual fun…but he seems to enjoy being irritated and angry)."
That's my point exactly! The world is already anger-stricken as it is. We don't need more stimulants to further that cause.
Good luck with that 12-step program ๐
Bob
Hi Jon – I actually do enjoy watching the PBS News Hour with Jim Leher. We are able to get that here, and I watch it every chance I get.
macky
Great post, Jon. i couldn't have said it better,
Hi Kevin,
It's interesting that you brought up the "insurgent" v. "terrorist" wording by Fox. Keep in mind, I am 100% with you that when kidnapping or suicide bombing is involved that's terrorism by a terrorist and those who do so in Iraq are no exceptions. But I am still not with FOXnews throwing that label around (or any news outfit). the word is in vogue now.
To cut things short, I'm not sure it's easy to label everybody a terrorist if they are against US interest (bear in mind, I consider Al-Qaida and the Al-Aqsa Brigade terrorists) but I believe that considering the mess and he complexity involved, not everything is terrorism related. There is a whole spectrum of reasons why there is conflict in Iraq (religion, ethnic tension, nationalistic views etc).
I see it this way, imagine FOxnews reporting in 1902 when:
** The US has sent troops (mostly young men. kids really) to secure the newly acquired Philippine Islands. Despite the Philippines already having a standing government and a constitution, they are not recognized by the US. "Nation Building" is needed to "introduce" democracy to the Filipinos.
Some locals welcome the troops, while there is also a large number who take arms against the occupiers. Those who revolt are headed by former generals and officers of the former Philippine republic (who interestingly, were former allies of the US).
Lacking the firepower to go face to face with the powerful US, they employ guerrilla tactics. Ambushes and covert attacks become common. Reports of atrocities are heard from both sides. **
Now, I can see FOXnews labelling the Filipino insurgents as terrorists if these events occured today. Emilio Aguinaldo and Gregorio Del Pilar, iconic Filipino heroes, are now terrorist leaders. News pundits will be wanting them jailed and thrown into a US base/jail in another newly acquired territory, Cuba, to deny them basic legal rights. US citizens who decry this occupation, people like Mark Twain, are labelled "unpatriotic".
I think it is a matter of perspective and am ok with the fact that I may be wrong. The Fil-Am war is still not Iraq and things did end up well in the long run. but…
There are two sides to the coin and I would like news to be balanced and unbiased. I may not like it and I myself may even be bothered by this impartiality. But that's the beauty of journalism, it's not supposed to be pro or con anything. Just the facts and then the viewer/reader decides.
sorry for this long one again. but I thought it would be interesting to point the parallels out.
Jon
Bob,
You get News Hour! I would not have expected PBS to air over there because it's not commercial, but I'm sure glad to hear it.
Bob
Hi Jon – The Newshour is carried on the Voice of America, which has a channel on cable. Most of the programming on their channel is in other languages, but a few English programs, including the Newshour.

Hi Jon;
I see you took the bait. I knew you could not resist. ๐ ๐ Just remember, that is only your opinion and you know what that is like. Everybody has one. It is a fact that some peoples are just bigger and more inflated than others. ๐
Bob
Hi Wayne – You must be an excellent guide! I can see how you are setting the bait and reeling in your "victims" right here on the blog! ๐
Wayne A. Derby
Hi Bob:
Thank you for the complement! ๐ I do alright at guiding. I am sure that there are others that are more accomplished than I.
Jon
Wayne,
Yes it is my opinion….commercial free ๐ "Bait"…what's that? I'm kidding. Actually, the main point of my post is factual. None of the cable news networks could stay in business if they just did news reports. All the networks stay in business because of the analysis/interview talk shows. I've also noticed that all the newsgirls are getting hotter all the time! And they are the only ones delivering the straight news in between the analysis talk shows!!!!! Talk about "bait"!!!! How insulting….they think us guys will only watch straight news if delivered by a hot babe! The sad message is clear to all the average looking girls thinking of TV journalism — consider print or radio. I just find it hard to believe that only gorgeous young ladies are interested in TV journalism. Come on girls…help me out here…hijack this thread!
Jon
A few years ago I heard about a news network called "The Naked News"….Did it survive? (Be careful…a "yes" or "no" might be telling us more than you think). Yes, young ladies undressed while delivering straight news stories. I'm sure guys were paying attention, but not listening ๐ I'm sure glad my cable package didn't include it or I'd end up Tivo-ing my "favorite news stories"!….and that would just be too weird ๐
By the way…I haven't watched network or cable news for 72 hours. The bad news is I'm now blogging about it….so it's like exchanging food for cigarettes ๐
Wayne A. Derby
Hi Jon:
Ha Ha, got you… You even did it a second time….. ๐ Naked News. Never heard of it and do not give a rat's pooper about it.

Hi Jon and Wayne – Wow, we actually have a discussion going here with two participants who disagree with each other, yet it is civil and not a big fight! Amazing, and nice! ๐
Mahdy
hey, I have seen that Naked News when the other news channels brought the issue to the public. It is a female newscasters who deliver news naked in front of the camera and they are all females. Personally, it is derogatory to all female population. I hope they clamped on those newschannel and stopped it.
Wayne A. Derby
Hi Bob:
Yea, Jon, Mahdy and I all had it out on one of Louis's column and then we kissed and made up, wrote some personal notes and got to know one another. They are REALLY good people, although a bit liberal,. ๐ The topic that got us going before was almost the same as this one, so I thought I knew how to push Jon's buttons and bait him, just in fun. He took it hook line and sinker, but he got me in the end though.
Hi Mahdy:
I absolutely agree that the naked news is degrading to women, though I have never seen it and did not know it existed until Jon brought it up. However I would not be honest if I did not admit that being a man if I saw it I would stop and watch it at least once. I most likely would not hear a word that they said, but I would watch. I would not be able to help my self. I am a man so therefor I am a dog and I will look at attractive women. Not in front of my wife though. It is who I am and I am honest about who I am, but support and agree with your assessment. That is the conundrum that I am.
Best to you and Jon
