There are a lot of bizarre foods in the Philippines, but perhaps the kind of bizarre foods is Balut. Balut is a fertilized duck egg that is roughly about 18 days old (the age can vary, and determines the “solid” state of the egg). The egg can contain the duck beak, even feathers of the maturing duck that is ready to hatch.
Watch the Video below to see an American trying his first taste of balut!

this Balut thing has been floating around youtube, and there's few american who tried it, what really makes me think is, westerner find the balut gross and yucky, but they keep trying to have a taste of it? if you search the net about the balut, you will get loads of hit about it, maybe balut is very intriguing and more and more westerners are trying their first taste.
isn't it in australia they eat live bugs and ants? and in madagascar they eat huge roaches? and in some part of the world they eat live big worms? so how come balut is gross?? blaut is a duck and is well COOKED, so how do you find it gross?
i would rather eat balut than the insects, bugs and worms.. what about you?
Bob
Hi dans – Yes, it always seems like balut is intriguing, doesn't it? People are somewhat fascinated by it. Maybe someday it will be things like balut which will draw throngs of tourists to the Philippines to sample the culinary delights! ๐

I had a friend who said he used to like balut until he ate one in dailight where he could actually see it. That cured him.
