Besides frogs, crickets, worms, and snails in " some parts" of the Philippines, the locals also eat snakes, native small alligators ( bayawak) and dog meat. These items are not served in restaurants, but they are good source of proteins. With the price of meat and chicken skyrocketing, the popularity of this items are increasing to the poor filipinos in rural areas. Of course native crabs (several varieties) are delicacies including the world famous Balut ( eaten in Survivor and Fear Factor TV shows) . In Marinduque, the coconuts crab (igod) is one of the most expensive crustacean available only in certain months of the year ( seasonal). It is cooked in coconut milk. Coconut crabs tastes as good a lobster in Main, Dungenes crabs of San Francisco or blue crabs of Maryland, here in US.
