I saw a video on YouTube the other day, and it really brought a smile to my face. The video is about the “Coke Happiness Truck” in the Philippines, and true to it’s name, the video brought a smile to my face. In fact, I enjoyed it so much that I called Feyma to come and watch with me.
Basically, a Coke truck goes out around town, and in a secretive way, they distribute gifts to Filipinos. When Feyma and I watched this, it reminded us a lot of our LiP Christmas Giveaway that we do every year.
Watch the video and see what you think. I guarantee it will bring a smile to your face, and a few minutes of happiness, or more!

I remember viewing this one a while back. Very entertaining. This is one of the things I like about Youtube, you can find so many interesting videos. To me this is truly The Worlds TV Channel. Just about anyone can put up their own full color broadcast in full stereo sound. A few decades ago I don’t think anyone would have believed we would have something like this.
If I had to make a choice of having TV or Youtube, I think I would take Youtube.
Thanks for posting this one Bob. Once again this video brought smiles to my face and maybe even a tear of happiness to my eyes.
MindanaoBob
Hi Bob – I was really touched by the video, and what Coke did. Such a small thing for a big company like Coca Cola, yet so touching too. I’m glad you enjoyed it, even if you’ve seen it before!
Cy
That was great! Did it really dispense a roasted pig at one point??? Was I seeing things? 😀
MindanaoBob
They really did, Cy! I was shocked when I saw that lechon!
Jaime Gomez
Hi Bob, Interesting you made the Xmas connection. Coca-Cola has been doing the Xmas angle for a long time. My understanding is that, although Saint Nicklas was a nice legend, Santa Claus was popularized through Coca-Cola advertisements. Note his red and white clothes are symbolic of Coca-Cola colors.
MindanaoBob
Hi Jaime – Yes, I really made the Christmas connection, because Feyma and I do something like this every Christmas with the help of the LiP family and their contributions.
Nel in RI
Bob,
That was a great video a relatively cheap way for coke to advertise.
Keep your eyes out for a Mindanao Bobmobile coming to a barangay near you.
MindanaoBob
It sure was, Neal! Hmm… MindanaoBob Mobile! Now you’re talking! 😉
Linda in RI
Bob
I enjoy watching that video it very simple to make people happy in the philippines with just a small gift.
MindanaoBob
You are right, Linda. Simple, relatively inexpensive… how could you go wrong? 😆
Neal in RI
Bob
Very nice video and relatively inexpensive advertisement for coke.
Be on the lookout for a “Mindanao Bobmobile” appearing in a barangay near you.
MindanaoBob
I’m starting the design soon, Neal!
Lenny
Wow!! Super Cool””” Great Idea by someone with Coke…
MindanaoBob
I fully agree, Lenny.
John Heitz
Call me a jerk, but what was so great about that. To me it is an advertising play by a huge world wide corp. that makes products that much research has shown some to be harm full to humans. Then shots were staged and coached. Itwould be nice to see some of the out cuts with people fighting to get in line, lines in the PH??????, and fighting for the “gifts”.
Now if they went around with a truck that had no Coke markings on it, then that would be kool.
MindanaoBob
Hi John – I personally found the video to be uplifting. Yes, it is advertising, but I see nothing wrong with advertising your company, and I found this quite a unique way to do that.
I tend to agree with you on the lines, but I disagree that it is all staged, I personally feel that it’s not. Maybe I’m naive.
mike cowan
John, before you believe any ‘research’ about anything or anybody, find out who paid for it. In this case, probably the dairy industry. Coke (and the deadly peanut butter) have been constants in my life for 60 years. I feel fine. By the way, I did some research of my own (paid for by me with my time) on YouTube. That truck can float. I can prove that huge world wide corp. was across the ocean harming South Americans also.
MindanaoBob
Sorry, I really don.t get your point on this.
Mars Z.
John Heitz, you’re a jerk! Now that that’s out of the way, of course the company logo is on the truck, it’s part of their advertising program. Can you name a worldwide company that delivers product that doesn’t carry their logo on their truck? Even the product that you like and you currently use? Besides, they have their name on the truck because they can afford it.
Secondly, if you over indulge in anything, it will be bad for you. Like research giving sweetener to rats in equivalent to 100 soda a day and resulted in the rats supposedly create cancer.
Since they are planning to use the give away for advertising, it is not stage but, have a pre-positioned cameras and later on edited as shown.
When we have our feeding program and gift giveaway, kids and barrio folks lined up and doesn’t behave as you are implying that all Filipinos does. Give me a break!
joey
Why does it always have to be that someone always finds a way to have a negeative comment or attuide about something that brings great joy and humanity to the world? To me if always people have to have negative about things that are GOOD , no matter if they use it for advertizing!!!! Who says that they only do it for that, noone has to do anything for that, but they do it out of the goodness of thier heart. Maybe if more people would think possitive in the world then our world would be a whole lot better!! just my 2 senses! but i always look at life as a blessing, and look forward to anything to make life better for someone else that has it much worse than i have it.
Bob, me and the wife and our baby girl will be there soon, we are flying out tomorrow 2/4/2012 from houston texas. and landing in davao 2/7/2012. We would like to meet up with you and the family one day that you would be able to. I know you and them are busy, but if you get the chance we would be grateful. We enjoy reading hear and we hope that you continue to do positve things like the LIP drive and all the comments and trueth that is said here. I will always live by the saying, Live like you want to be treated and give to others, and dont expect anything in return, but throught your life you will be given back to, even if only the smiles of others, Thats what is worth it all.
MindanaoBob
Hi Joey – I’m with you, I prefer to look at the positive side on the Coke Happiness Truck thing.
Sure, I’d be happy to meet up with you when you are in town. Did you mean 3/7, since 2/7 has already passed by. Just give me a shout when you are in town, either by e-mail or by calling or texting to: 0915-216-0300.
Take care!
joey
lol, sorry bob, yes our flight leaves 3/4/2012 and lands 3/7/2012. must be big fingers on the key board, or just to happy to be there already. hahahah. So looking forward to the new adventures there, So love the culture there. sure thing. i will save your number in our phone since we have globe sim card already. looking forward to meeting good people as you and feyma and the kids. and also the good people of the LIP family
MindanaoBob
Sounds great. Have a good trip.
PapaDuck
Bob,
Very enjoyable, especially the lechon. I wonder if Pepsi will do something to match Coke, since they like to outdo each other. Thanks for posting the video. Have a nice day.
MindanaoBob
Hi PapaDuck – Yeah, Pepsi should do it, then Sarsi (a Filipino brand) and all of the others too! The more the merrier.
mike cowan
Joey, if ya’ll are leaving thru SFO Sunday on PAL, look for us in line. I’ll have on a black t-shirt and jeans and be the only person happy to be able to walk barefoot past the TSA folks. And I’m taller than my wife. Bob, was that too far off topic?
joey
Hi mike. We are leaving out of houston texas, and over nighting in singapore due to SA making a mistake on our flight, so they are picking up the bill for the over night. then flying out the next day to davao. So all in all not to bad. Actually SA is treating us good for making the mistake. Sure it does cause us a over night somewhere we didnt plan to stay, but hey. we will make the best of it as a vacation. But we are so ready to land in davao our new place to live and settle down for a while till our child is out of school, then Samal for our home of retirement.
mike cowan
Sorry Bob. John inadvertently pushed a couple of my buttons and my emotional brain overran the rational side. The use of ‘huge world wide corp.’ and ‘much research has shown’ are code phrases used to promote an ideology that I don’t subscribe to, but that has gained much traction in the US these last ten years or so. Again, please accept my apology. LiP is not somewhere I would want to be 86’d from. I’ll go back to my room now.
MindanaoBob
No need to apologize, mike, I just didn’t understand what you were saying. I wasn’t mad, just didn’t understand.
mike cowan
Joey, Singapore Airlines sounds like a good choice. PAL has always treated us nice. Put us up at their hotel/casino one time because of Typhoon Caloy. But their schedule now only gives a half hour or so to get through immigration and then catch their plane to Legazpi. I’ll check out SA next time. One of these times we’ll get to Davao. Because of Bob, I’ve googled Samal (doing research?). Yeah, we have to go there someday. Best wishes for your plans. I-610 is going to miss you. Enjoy.
gerry
don’t understand the connection to the video from the posts above… but the video was brilliant 🙂 🙂
MindanaoBob
Hi gerry – Glad you enjoyed the vid, I did too!
John Heitz
Where are all the comments, what happened? Did I stir up the shit pot some?
MindanaoBob
All of the comments are still there, John.. be sure to hit the “older comments” button to see them. Right at the bottom of the comments that are showing.
Bill Bernard
But, I have never seen such a straight line in the Philippines
MindanaoBob
Ha ha, me either, Bill.
Mark G.
Personally I might hold out for the Dunkin Donuts Happiness truck but a great video all the same. I think Coke really hit on a unique advertising idea here. It brought a tear to my eye. Now does anybody know when they’ll be coming to Calbayog City? joke lang
Cora Coe
Hey, it’s funny, I’m going to Calbayog next month to visit a friend who’s living in Calbayog. I might see you there. I heard that there’s fiesta going on that month. Emmitt and Edna Dailey who’s residing in Florida USA will be coming home soon.
Randy
And…we will also be in Calbayog middle of April. Wow, population explosion. But I don’t believe the Calbayog fiesta is until September, so the asawa says.
MindanaoBob
Ha ha… the dunkin donuts happiness truck, that’s a good one, Mark!
Cora Coe
“Coke Happiness Truck” was awesome. Bring back memories when I was growing up. Gotta have coke. It’s been 9 years since I visited Philippines. That was great, thanks.
MindanaoBob
Glad you liked it Cora!
Tuloy Po Kayo
Coke got their money’s worth here both in advertisement and goodwill. Kudos to the people behind the idea.
MindanaoBob
They certainly did get their money’s worth, I agree on that!
John Heitz
LOL, Have a coke and a smile Mike. Do me a favor after you have been stuck in a mob non line here for the 99th time, please mention it here. Ok Bob, I saw that older comments thing.
MindanaoBob
Glad you caught that, John.
John Heitz
LOL, Bob it takes me a while but I usually get on the train.
MindanaoBob
A lot of people have been bitching me out, accusing me of deleting their comments. They just didn’t look and see that they need to click “previous comments” to see that it is still there. Easier to accuse me, I guess! 😆
Steve Maust
Bob,
Enjoyed the video! Just nice to see a large company giving back to the local community. Still have not seen that truck in Cauayan yet!
MindanaoBob
Never saw it here either!
Loren Pogue
Thanks for posting the truck vido, never saw it before and you are right, it made me smile. Now I will have to keep an eye out for it and maybe its mate the SMB truck.
MindanaoBob
Hi Loren – Hmm.. the San Mig truck? Now, that would be quite popular!
Mars Z.
Hi Bob, SMG Happiness Truck? lol, no straight line there for sure, Ha ha!
MindanaoBob
Ha ha.. for sure, Mars!
Mars Z.
BTW, how’s the MindanaoBob Happiness Truck shaping? Have an idea for you. The “O” in the Bob should be the button to press to dispense gift. Gift ideas to dispense?
–Pearls from Samal
–Fresh Pineapple from Bukidnon
–Inihaw Tuna Steak
–BBQ Tuna Panga
–Bowl of Tuna Kinilaw
–Grade “A” Durian

–Sweet Davao Mango and Bananas
–Durian Candies
Any ideas from other posters, let Bob know! ha ha
Have a nice day, Bob.
Mars
MindanaoBob
Ha ha… good list there Mars. Only problem is that if I am going to distribute stuff around Mindanao, the items on your list are very common items here, mostly stuff that people can get every day! I need something a bit more “exotic” I think! I gotta get my hands on a nice truck too! 😉
Randy
How about everything that Marz listed above, along with a framed and signed caricature of Mindanao Bob!
MindanaoBob
Now you’re talkin’ my language, Randy. Of course those signed caricatures are quite a valuable item, though! 😉
Phil R.
Thats a good one Bob …
MindanaoBob
I agree, I really liked it myself.
