Recently, I have been spending a lot of time in the Dentist’s chair! Having work done on my teeth is something that I have never liked, since I was a kid. Because of the fact that I did not really care for it, I kind of let me teeth go, and did not keep them in good shape the way that I should. Thankfully, for the past several years, Feyma and the kids have been using a local dentist here in Davao that has turned out to be very good. Her name is Dr. Lourdes Lebosada.
Lourdes is really a great person, and due to her skill and her gentleness, I have come to the point that I am quite comfortable visiting the dentist now. That is something that I thought I’d never say! Even just the thought of visiting the dentist would make me feel sick before! For the past couple of months, though, I have been going to see Lourdes at least once per week, and often twice per week, while she has been getting my teeth back to good health. Not only am I comfortable with getting the work done now, I must say that my teeth have come to the point where they are totally repaired now, and it’s a good feeling!
A couple of months ago when I made the decision that I would let Lourdes take care of my dental problems, I needed to get a lot of work done. I had a number of teeth that had broken over the years, and roots that needed to be extracted. Lourdes took care of these problems for me without a hitch, and also installed a couple of fixed bridges for me, and all I can say is that I am very impressed with the quality of her work. But, the most impressive thing about her for me is the gentle manner that she has, and because of that I have been able to get all this work done, and feel comfortable in doing so. I think Lourdes for that from the bottom of my heart!
Last Friday, I had my last visit with Lourdes in this particular series. Of course, I will be going back to see her for regular dental visits, and any additional work that needs to be done. But, after last Friday’s visit, I am not 100% up to date, and my teeth are in good shape. Not only is it a relief to have the work done, but I also feel good too.
Lourdes’ office is located here in Davao City, in the Aldevinco Shopping Center, just across from Marco Polo Hotel. This column that I am writing about Lourdes is not a paid advertisement, just my way of thanking Lourdes for the great work that she did for me. If any of you want to get dental work done at a good rate here in the Philippines, Lourdes has my highest recommendation! Be sure to visit Lourdes’ website to find out more!

i also had some extensive dental work done when i was in davao del norte.i was so shocked at the rates for extraction.i had also let my teeth go to the point of no return,i had 9 teeth extracted for 40usd and the dentist office nice and professional and liecenced, although i did go to a different person to make my dentures and they did a fantastic job also.now my new teeth look and feel better then the original.the total for upper and lower dentures was 120usd.i think here in usa would have cost me in the thousands.so i consider the money i saved payed for my trip that time to philippines.
salamat bob 😀

My wife and I have the same experience with dental work in the Philippines. Although we have dental insurance here in Ca, we still save a lot of money if we have our major dental work ( bridge work, caps) done in Manila. For routine dental work such as cleaning, filling, the savings is much less. Indeed, if you have a major dental work done in Manila or Marinduque, you get a free trip to the Philippines, by the savings you earned from reasonable but also good quality dental services in PI. .Shall we call this dental tourism?
Bob
Hi Ron W – I'm glad that you are also able to get dental work done here, not only are the savings great, the service is also excellent. At least that's my experience.
Bob
Hi David B Katague – that's what I say too, getting dental or medical work done here will give you a free trip to the Philippines. And, it's more than a matter of savings, you also get excellent work and a caring professional to do it. In my opinion, you can't go wrong.

I am planning to have some dental work done in January in Cebu 😥 . Know of any good dentists in Cebu?
Dan Mihaliak
Good for you BOb and everyone who takes care of your teeth. There are numerous studies linking bad dental health to heart disease so you are not only helping yourself look better you are making your health overall better.
Bob
Hi Larry – sorry to say, I really don't have any recommendations in Cebu.
Bob
Hi Dan Mihaliak – yes, I do believe that maintaining good hygiene with your teeth improves your overall health as well. Thanks for your comment!
Bob (HI)
I always called the dentist office "The House of Pain." I hate going, but it is a necessity if you want to keep your teeth when you get older. Good article!
Bob
Hi Bob (HI) – I'm with you! I always hated going to the dentist. I am happy that Doctor Lourdes has turned me around!
Neil
Hi Bob
I e-mailed a question to you before about your dentist and I called her up and was actually able to talk to her and she was much cheaper then my dentist for a simple 4 quad scaling. Her cost was 8k pesos while my dentist here would cost 50k pesos. I did however called a dentist in Makati who does many of the film stars there and who wanted to charge me 60k pesos, so not every dentist is reasonable in their pricing. I found it ironic in a magazine in the states called Filipinas had a article on medical/dental tourism and interviewed him stating how prices are cheaper in the Philippines compared to the U.S., just not his. I do plan on using her services when I am next in Davao. I appreciate your review of doctor Lourdes.
Bob
Hi Neil – I am not surprised that a dentist in Makati would be priced similarly to a US dentist. I think that should be what would be expected. Get outside Metro Manila and costs decrease dramatically.
I do highly recommend Lourdes!

Hi Bob.
Very interesting collumn. I checked the pricelist from the dentist, and I must say that, if one needs tental work, what I save compare to the prices where I live, it will easily pay a big part, if not all of the ticket going to RP. That means a free vacation, boy I am a happy person right now. Thank you for this info.
Bob
Hi Preben – I am sure you will be happy with the quality and price that Lourdes will provide for you.

hi bob,
Lucky me!, my wife is a dentist and I would not have to worry about the cost and the dental care for me and for my daughter. as for the prices of dental works in the philippines, the majority of them charges a lower fee even if you will get the service in manila, just avoid those dentist who serve the "big names" specially those who cater the "stars" they charge more because they know the "stars" are into bragging of how much it cost them to have their teeth done. again, the cost of dental work for these people (stars and big names) is another "symbol status". luckily these kind of dentist are just few in the industry, i could only think of 2 dental office in manila that charge sky high. Still, majority of dental practitioner in the philippines (somewhere about 98% of practioners) charges less compared to the states and other countries.

I am looking for a good dentist/orthodontist in Davao or Cebu or Bohol. I will be there in January. I need a crown repaired and am thinking of just waiting until I get there. I also noticed the status symbol attitude in that young women wear fake braces as a status symbol – funny because here in the states women try to hide their braces and only do closed mouth smiles.
Bob
Hi dans – I have to agree regarding pricing. I would think that at least 98% of Philippine dentists are considerably cheaper than what can be found in the USA.
Bruce
Bob,
Good to know of a good dentist. I am a good example of the old saying, "Be good to you teeth or they will be False to you."
Bob
Hi Bruce – That's a good saying, I'll have to remember that one.
Bobby
60K for 4 quadrant scaling and root planning is very steep for the Philippines. If a periodontist is doing the treatment then the fee would be appropriate. Also with 4Q SRP local anesthesia is recommended. The UCR (usual and customary rate) in California(varies with zip code) for this treatment is $150-250 per quadrant. Periodontists charges $500 and up per quad. A complete denture $1000-$5000 per arch depending on materials used (average cost at $1500).

tnx ..more power..
Bob
Hi bem caina- I am not a dentist, rather just the person who wrote an article about the dental work I had done. For questions like you ask, you should contact the dentist herself.

Good luck!

Although I have not been a patient of Dr. Lebosada, I fully intend to be one along with my wife, as soon as I get back to the Phils. I wrote her an email and she replied quite quickly and politely. She seems like someone who genuinely cares about her patients!
MindanaoBob
Lourdes is a good person, and a good dentist, Mike. Tell her that you are my friend, and I’m sure she will treat you extra special!
