The girl in this video is Emmy, she has a series of videos where she eats foods from different countries. Β In the episode that I am going to share with you today, Emmy is going to eat items from the Philippines!
Emmy eats a lot of foods that I have eaten here in the Philippines, like Curly Tops, Nagaraya nuts, and others.
Maybe she will eat a few things that I have not eaten, watch the video and see if you can guess what I have not eaten!
Well, what items have I not eaten? Β If you want to guess, put your guess in the comments.
Neal in RI
Bob
I would have to say seeing that you have young Kids around your house, you have eaten every single one of them at least once.
I can’t believe she left out White Rabbit candy.
MindanaoBob
Hello Neal, good morning! I guess it’s good evening on your end!
Three are a couple things she ate which I have not eaten yet. I don’t think I’ve ever had tamarind candy before. Nothing objectionable about it, I just never had a chance to try it. Never had the Jacobina that she had either, I’ve never seen it before, to be honest. Perhaps it’s a regional thing. Never eaten the “choco star” either.
Mars Z.
Hi Bob, you should try tamarind, probably the only natural candy she tried lees salt and sugar. Tamarind, the main ingredient of Worcestershire sauce. Curios if PHL laws are required to put all ingredients and additives in packed products,or the product nutritive value, do you know Bob?
Mars
MindanaoBob
Hi Mars – I am not certain what the law is on listing ingredients. However, I do know that many foods do not list the ingredients. But, there are lots of laws that are not followed, that may be the case this time too.
Mars Z.
Oh, OK. “..and other secret ingredients” will cover it. ha ha. CDC just issued a statement last week that most items in the US that made people sick are from food from Asia, from frz fish, dried fish and other unidentified ingredients.
MindanaoBob
Of course the US govt won’t blame US foods! π But, I keep seeing salmonella outbreaks in the USA on the news! π
Mars Z.
You’re right, Bob. Have you ever remember the US called a Flu outbreak named after anything in USA. How about Louisiana Mudbug Flu instead? or US West Coast Summer Flu or or Southern US Blight Flu, ha ha.
MindanaoBob
Yep, it’s always “Asian flu”.
Cy
Did you ever try balut? If so, what did you think of it?
MindanaoBob
Hi Cy – One thing I have not tried is Balut. I have tried a lot of the other stuff that people talk about, though. I love durian. I have eaten Soup #5 and other such things… not balut, though! π
PapaDuck
Bob,
Those snacks really make me hungry. Alot of them are good to bring back to the states for your family/friends to try as something different. Have a nice day.
MindanaoBob
Always interesting to share things from other countries, PapaDuck! Especially food! π
dans
bob,
those are treat for me when i was a child. my grandmother used to make me work for it, a little bit of house chores or plucking her gray hair out and i could get a chocnut similar to choc-o-star, hahahaha
MindanaoBob
Hi Dans – I can remember when Feyma first came to the States, some of these things were the things she really missed, so I can understand what you are feeling!
roy
I don’t know Bob. There’s nothing really exotic in her items, at least that’s what I think. She didn’t have balut or tuyo, did she?
MindanaoBob
I totally agree, roy, she just ate “regular” stuff. I suppose it would be hard to bring a balut back to the States, though, for her to try! π
roy
Yes, jacobina maybe more common in Luzon. It’s good for a snack during recess when I was in grade school.
MindanaoBob
Thanks for confirming that, roy. I’ve never heard of it before.
Mark G.
This may sound silly Bob but I’ve never had any of those. Mostly for a snack I eat pan de sal or long bread with peanut butter, or Bananas, Mangos, papaya, Sky Flakes, and some kind of crispy, salty, spicy snacks that are a peso a bag, lol. It seems the only chocolate I eat in the Philippines is the Hersheys or Mars stuff I bring from the US as pasalubong.
MindanaoBob
Nothing silly about that, Mark! I’m sure you’ll try a few of those someday! π
Bruce Michels
Bob,
I’m not really big on candy from the Philippines, but everytime we go to our local Filipino store her in Jacksonville our kids would grab a bunch of the candy espcecially the Tamarind. I do like some of the chips and crackers though as for as Nagaraya cracker nuts those garlic ones are like crack I can’t put them down.
I’m sure you had Halo Halo thats my Asawa’s favorite.
MindanaoBob
I love Nagaraya too, Bruce.. you’re right, it’s addictive!
Halo halo? I can take it or leave it. I usually leave it. π
RandyL
There is apparently nothing that Emmy does not like, or so it seems. She gives good reviews on everything and makes me want to expand my taste bud horizons. Are you sure she is not an undercover salesperson?
MindanaoBob
Ha ha.. I don’t think so, but you never know!
