For the past few days now, it’s been raining heavily here in Davao City during night time. Last week there was bad flooding here in the city. We didn’t even know that it was bad until the next morning. We usually go to bed early because I would wake up the next morning so early.
Well, I was talking to my sister, and her husband said something and I overheard when he said that their was a big flooding somewhere in Matina and some people were killed and missing. I told my sister that I did not watch TV yet, but saw on Facebook about a flooding. It was too early for people to post something. But the kids were preparing for school I run to my computer and checked the internet and a friend posted something on his wall on facebook that he is cancelling an event that they had planned. It sounds like a big celebration for some stuff, the party has been planned a month or so ago. But he said in respect to people that died and missing, they are cancelling the big event.
They don’t feel like partying. So of course I was so puzzled and I googled it. I didn’t see that much on the net. It was too early and the news people might be on the scene, no time for posting or updating the web. I didn’t turn on the TV, Bob was still sleeping. After the kids left for school, just then I watched the TV, and sure, it was shown locally and nationwide. It showed the water just gushing. Shanties and cars and other stuff were floating.
A few hours later Bob was having his Bisaya lesson. After the lesson I will most likely to join in with Bob and Bebe. We will have a good chat. Well, Bebe told us that some part in the area she lives in was flooded a little. Especially the one down from them. She then told us too the big flooding that night that I was talking about. It really saddened all of us. I felt sorry for the people especially the kids and the elderly. It really just an instant flood. We all know that Davao floods a lot due to the drainage problems. But this particular incidents, people were just not ready. I saw on TV the dead bodies that they found, It’s hard to see when they lined the dead bodies and seeing among the casualties were toddlers. Very hard to fathom. On our church they showed some videos, I think a lot of us were in tears.
I hope that the city will do something more on the drainage problem. Hopefully it will lessen the flooding here. I’m sure a lot of people were stranded on the way home that night. Lots of the jeepneys probably canceled their routes towards Matina Aplaya/Toril area. The flooding there was the worst one I think. Just like in our neighborhood we have a good drainage here. But when it rained so heavily the water in the drainage will get higher. Even though we have good drainage, some of our neighbor their house was lower than us and they had lots of water on their driveway. Luckily our house the owner built few more steps higher on the ground. Thank God for the owner’s thinking.
It constantly worries us here when it rained during night time now. It used to be we really like raining during night time.It feels good to have the rain during night time. It cools down the place. Lately we changed our tunes on that. We don’t want rainy days right now. But its not really up to us on that anyway. Nature will do its course.
Just hoping that the people of Davao will eventually recover from the tragic tragedy soon.I hope anyway. To all of you that lost a love one on that tragedy our sincere condolences and prayers for you guys!

Hi Carlo – Yes, truly a tragedy here.

Hello Feyma,,,Yes the flooding is very sad that so many people do suffer loss.Did you feel the earthquake at 4:40 am ?Here in Bohol it was very light, seems to be far away from here.
Feyma
Hi Ralph – Yeah, sad to see. Nope didn’t feel the quake here. Stay safe.
Take care!

I hope that last night’s rain didn’t cause anymore heartaches for those people who have been hit with the last floods. It is so sad to see people trying to salvaged what was left of their belongings.
Feyma
Hi Violante – I hope not again. It was a scary feeling now every time we have raining here in Davao. I don’t want any loss of lives again. I know of somebody that their whole house was flooded. They didn’t have anything. Have to take all their clothes to the laundry mat. Still struggling to rebuild their lives.
Thank you for the thought.
Take care!

Hi Feyma,
Read a lot about it,seems the tide coming in was pushing the water back into the swollen river making it even worse, nowhere for the water to go.I wonder though, how much garbage and overgrowth effected it,people seem to have a bad habit of throwing their junk in rivers there.
My heartfelt thoughts to all those effected by this tragedy.
Regards,
Chas.

Hi Chas – Luckily the Bankerohan River didn’t overflow when we had the bad flooding here. If it would have been, too many casualties here then. Lots of people living beside the river. While it rained last night I was praying not to get the water too high there. People will really in big trouble there then.
I’m sure lots of garbage and debris were flowing and floating in the river here at that time.
Good to see you here Chas.
Take care!

huh! grabeh talaga…
Feyma
Hi Cidy – Mao jud.
Jim
Hi Feyma – We have not had flooding like some places in Mindanao but God we have had the rain, it has hardly stopped where we are in Bukidnon since the year began. For example yesterday morning was glorious with really beautiful sunshine and by 1.30pm the heavens opened with thunder and lightning which lasted until about 4pm. This morning its once again beautiful but for how long it will last is anybodys guess. I often wonder where all the water goes to. The only people who can be happy are the farmers and the White Water Rafters.
Regards.
Jim.
Feyma
Hi Jim – Thank God you guys were on a higher grounds. I know what you meant, sunshine in the morning and raining later. Ours here it usually rained after dark. Last night it rained, lightning and thunder like mad. It used to be a good feeling to have rain during night time. Now a days I’m not liking it. It worries me for the people here.
I know the farmers and the water rafters were really enjoying the rain. But seeing the casualties during the flooding, they might also prayed for less rain too.
As always good to see you here Jim.
Take care!

Davao area flooding a tragedy for sure…
If you read the news from around the world the weather lately seems to be on the “extreme” side. More Tornadoes in the US than ever before, some exceeding the 300 year record, the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers have all flooded severely this spring (topping levees that were suppose to be well above flood stages). China reports epic floods and mudslides. There’s a heat wave right now in the middle of the US where temperatures are over 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
Could it be that Al Gore was right — we are experiencing “Global Warming” which really means the weather will swing a little more wildly because of more water vapor in the air (more severe in most areas).

Rich,
Florida is probably the coolest part of the country right now.

it’s nature getting back at us. we need to preserve and conserve the remaining forests that we have.

Hi Feyma,
It’s “climate change”, here in the middle east, the winter season is getting longer. Usually, summer officially starts around March with its peak in August. But now, it started late mid-May but totally scorching hot and with very frequent sandstorms (like twice a week or so) with very hot wind blowing and really not advisable to stay outside. A lot of people are experiencing respiratory problems. We are not also spared from flooding during the winter season when the heavy rains come because the cities here are not designed to handle lots of rainwaters.

Hi Feyma.
Its very sad the news of the floods there, our thoughts go out to the people that have been effected by them.
Our First visit to Davao, we arrived in torrential rain and Davao was flooded, we had to lift our feet up in the taxi as he took us to our hotel. There was just the odd puddle left when we woke up next morning.
It could be with all the volcanoes errupting it is having an effect on the weather patterns.
