As I reported last week, I had my first exam in my Bisaya course yesterday. The results were exactly what I was hoping for! Out of around 200 words in my vocabulary, I got 100% correct! I was so happy to be able to accomplish that! Next week, I have another exam as well, this time in writing and translating sentences from English to Bisaya and also from Bisaya to English. I actually thought that this exam would also be part of todays session, but my teacher told me that we will do that next week. I feel like I am pretty well prepared for that as well, though.
I am feeling really good about my course and my ability to learn Bisaya. I have taken classes twice before, but never got even close to where I am now, so this is very encouraging. I am feeling like I am just on the cusp of being able to speak Bisaya with some degree of fluency. Basically, I am at the point where if I just add additional vocabulary, I can say or understand the language pretty well. That is a great feeling for me, because it is something that I really want to accomplish. I am tired of going around in public and being the only person in the group who cannot really participate in a conversation. If I become fluent in Bisaya, it will really improve my quality of life here in the Philippines!
Sige na….. ugma na lang.

Happy thanksgiving day from the British one
Jim
Hi Bob – Well done and keep up your practice.
Bob
Hi Stephen King – Ha ha…I have a feeling that you wanted to add some other "descriptive" words to that list! Even though you don't celebrate thanksgiving in the UK, Happy Thanksgiving to you as well!
Hi Jim – Thanks very much!
Bruce
Bob,
Congratulations on your 100%. I hope you got a gold star besides your smiley face.
Also Happy Thanksgiving. Enjoy all the foods and company. If you are having Father Franco joining you, wish him my best and tell him I hope to see him soon.
14 more days until my arrival. Too bad I will arrive too late for the FoM breakfast meeting.
Bob
Hi Bruce – Thanks for the support! No gold star, but a star drawn with a pen! ๐
Happy Thanksgiving to you as well! I'll be seeing Father Franco on Saturday, and will surely pass along your regards.
Brian
Good on ya mate ! Kudos!!! I have struggled to learn a few phrases and if and when I retire there will follow in your foot steps !
Bob
Hi Brian – If you happen to settle in the Davao area, I would be happy to put you in touch with my teacher. She was actually referred to me by another reader of this site, Shannon, who is also a student!
Klaus

I enjoyed the various columns and comments written here. Thank you all so much. I am enjoying a penpal relationship with a very special someone and, its pretty obvious, she likes it right where she is in Davao. It seems good to follow up on my interest in her by learning what I can about her home. This site is very helpful to me for getting a glimpse of it all from the outsiders' perspective. Thanks again.
Karen
Hi Bob,
Congratulations! I am not suprized you aced that exam. Keep up the good work. Study-study-study. Learning another language is an amazing feat. One becomes a little closer to being a citizen of the world—- one word or phrase at a time. BRAVO!
Karen
Jack
Congrats Bob
I wish I was able to stay there long enough to take classes.I find that if I pick up a word or 2 eac h I go there I forget them before I get back again.
Never mind the day for my classes will come also. Happy Thanksgiving
Luz
Congrats Bob! It shows that you are very kugihan magtuon ug Binisaya.
Bob
Hi John R – I'm glad to know that we've helped you in learning a little about the place! Whenever you visit Davao, please look me up.
Hi Karen – Thank you!
Hi Jack – Learning words is important, but even more important is learning how to use them to form a sentence. Keep building up your vocabulary, and then try to take a class where you can learn how to properly use those words.
Hi Luz – Salamat kaayo.
Kevin
Wow, good job.
Keep at it. I give you an A also.
Bob
Hi Kevin – Ha ha… thanks for that "A" I appreciate it! ๐
SYM2
Probably a silly question; what is the difference between the Cebuano and Bisaya languages? I can find classes in Cabuano but not Bisaya.
Thanks
Bob
Hi SYM2 – "Bisaya" and 'Cebuano" are two different names for the same language. If you found classes in Cebuano, you found them for Bisaya too! ๐
SYM2
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
