Now, before I get started on this topic, let me be the first to admit… all you have to do is take a quick look at me, and you’ll know that I’m not a work-out guru! That being said, I do like to work a little exercise into my schedule. I have a health club membership at a local hotel, and I really enjoy it. They have all of the modern exercise machines, classes for different types of fitness, a swimming pool… really all the amenities you could desire. For me, I enjoy the pool mostly. Their pool is a large pool, I think that it is half of an Olympic sized pool, although I am not completely certain on that. I tend to go swimming almost every day for an hour or even two. It’s just part of my routine.
The cost of fitness here in the Philippines is much lower than back in the States where I came from. For example, the fitness center where I am a member charges P7000 or so (about $155) per year to use the pool there (for a single person). Right now, I have a family membership. We have a total of 6 people in the family, and the cost is about $300 per year for the whole group! I find that to be very affordable, and it gives the kids a great healthy activity too.
I see a number of advantages to joining a health club:
- It gives you a great activity to keep you busy
- It is healthy for your body, of course
- You meet a lot of new people (both Filipinos and other ex-pats)
Here in Davao, there are a lot of health clubs to choose from too!

Hi Bob. I enjoyed the same facility while visiting Marlou. It took me 20 minutes to walk down to te hotel. I owuld work out, get a swim and then a massage. Marlou would take a taxi and we would then have breakfast at the buffet. LIfe could not have been better. So why am I still in Kansas City??????? Ron

Sorry for the typos Bob. Ron

Hi Ron – Yeah, it doesn't get much better than the life you describe! And, it pretty much mirrors my life! I don't do the breakfast buffet, but I enjoy walking down to Marco Polo for a swim daily.

What hotel do you have a membership at Bob? I'd be interested in checking it out.
Bob
Hi Louis – That's at Marco Polo Hotel.
