We were coming off the mountain last Friday evening heading to the By the Sea Resort for Mongolian Barbeque; Cecil was driving with his wife Ymir Thea in the front and Mr. & Mrs. Thompson in the back. I noticed the temperature gauge was reading very high. But we made it to dinner on time. There we met my friend Tommy and his family and we were joined by two new couples Mike and Bill plus their wives, who have recently migrated to the Philippines to partake of the good life. A while later we were joined by my Granddaughter and her party, so the whole gang was there.
It was another great night on the town, good company, great food and the kids were enjoying themselves with sweet deserts while we guys partook of manly adult beverages and the pondering of the world’s problems. It was getting late and we were all informed by the ladies that it was “Time Gentlemen” and the evening was concluded.
The new old Honda still had its running hot problem, and my two son-in-laws decided that my mechanic was close by and we would leave my car there overnight and ride home in Chris’ Innova. Don’t fret, the Honda was left in the care of a security guard and locked safely inside for the night. Early the next morning we received a call from Kuya Greg that it was the water pump, and a new one was installed and it was ready for pick up,. Cecil went down to get it. And a good thing that he did!
Cecil arrived at noon and was informed that his wife was in the mood to give birth to my new grandson! Off to Bay Pointe Hospital we all dashed and checked her in. The doctor agreed with my daughter and at 14:00 she was admitted. Time stopped as we all waited, I’m smart enough to know that babies like to be born in the wee hours of the night, when they are damn good and ready. My wife and I departed the hospital back to our house leaving a fair size party there to keep us informed. 03:00 that morning the phone rang and we were told by a highly excited new dad that his son “Jaden Logan” was born, and both mother and son were just fine. We couldn’t say the same for Cecil as he was still running in widening circles all night long.
While my wife was still on the phone I got dressed and got the car ready for the trip to the hospital. The new old Honda was in fine form and was waiting on Mayang to arrive and off we went.
My wife bogarted her way past a flock of young nurses and attendants to see her daughter and new grandson, while I and the rest of the waiting group were pushed aside as the mother of the new mother, tended to her young. Oh and yes it was Mother’s Day, that Hallmark Holiday that a corporation forced upon us, low those many years ago. Then more excitement that the baby’s birthday would be on Mother’s Day every year, I had to be the one to throw water on that idea and explained that Mother’s Day was always the second Sunday of May, and that every seven years his birthday would fall on Mother’s Day. Then I added that since he was born on a 13th like his Lolo, he would have many birthdays on “Friday the 13th” as mine will be this year. Let the head scratching commence!
Monday, late in the afternoon our new baby arrives on the mountain, the amount of people that came would have amazed you, and I kept waiting for a politician to show up to give a speech, with that size of the crowd available they normally do. Luckily none came.
One of the things I enjoy about living here is the joy the birth of a baby brings to a purok; each and every person is happy and proud. I can’t count how many babies I’ve visited over the years, and I felt happy each and every time.
It is settling down now after a couple of days have passed, we are falling into a routine centered around our baby, Jayden Logan. All I can say is that; “I’m a genius”, by having built our other master bedroom on the second floor, because it is so peaceful up there.
As I submit this article to “Fearless Leader Bob”, the family is already here to prepare for a party, we will christen the Baby this Saturday (19 May) and it also happens to be the birthday of our daughter Hanna, and my son-in-law Chris. Just three more reasons to imbibe in cold SMB’s Food and cocktails, as if a reason is really required. The damnable singing machine will also rear its ugly head. So the party will be spoken of at a later date and posted on Lip. You may all sleep through that one if you wish.

Paul,
Congrats to you and your Family.
Something magic about a Baby, seeing or holding a newborn baby can make you forget about the worst day you could be having.
Paul Thompson
Neal;
Believe it or not I have been trusted to hold the baby, for short spans of time. He’s a sleeper, and I’ve not really heard him cry much at all. He sure made my every day sunny even during the rain!

Hi Paul,
Let me be the first to send congrats to you and Mayang for your new lovely grandson!
He’ll be a great new addition to your happy family! Glad that all is well with your daughter and husband., Nice too that you have a quiet refuge upstairs when you need it! Best wishes, Queenie
queeniebee
Oops! Neal beat me to it! No matter!
Paul Thompson
Queenie;
Thank you for your kind wishes, the little guy is rearranging my life everyday, and so far I love it! Neal is fast on the draw! (lol)
Gary Wigle
New baby in the family? Sounds great Paul. So you are grandpa again. The only problem with being a grandpa is that you have to sleep with a grandma. 😛
Paul Thompson
Gary;
Now we know why some men marry younger women! It’s to overcome the Grandma syndrome. Being a grandfather once more is going to be fun. Me the baby and Coco the flying Labrador will explore his new world!
roy
LOL

Congrats Grandad, have fun wetting the babys head.
Paul Thompson
Chas;
I conveniently neglected to tell my son-in-law about being anointed while changing a little boy’s diaper (nappy) he now knows, “It’s not water on the head!”
MindanaoBob
Hi Paul – My most sincere congratulations to you on your growing family! Happy days are ahead as you break the new kid in to the “Thompson system.” He will be posting jokes on Facebook before we know it! 🙂 Speaking of FB… does he have a FB account yet? 😉
Paul Thompson
Hi Bob;
Thank you for your kind words, the little rascal is still mooching off his families FB accounts, but we’ll take care of that in the near future.
Hudson
Hey Paul,
Congratulations to you and your family. Babies are always a special occasion. Any idea what college Jaden Logan will be attending?
Paul Thompson
Hudson;
His father is a US Citizen, and in a few years the baby will be a little wild American kid (He’s a US Citizen also) My daughter will get her green card (But they are not really green) So that’s up in the air, it I make it to my 80’s I’ll let you know. (LOL)
peterjoy

Senior,
Congrats on your new grandson and a speedy recovery to the new mom.
It’s pretty awsome how a new born brings out the best in everyone. Is he the first boy in the family? If he is I know Grampa is going to spoil him.
In 2 weeks 4June? I’ll have my first grandson So we’ll be making the mad dash to Tampa on direct orders from the Grandma. So the car will be gassed and money set aside for that day.
So in Oct we’ll have a celebration for the boys!!!
Paul Thompson
Bruce;
He’s the first boy in the forth generation of kids under his great grandmother, wow I’m confused! I was toteing him around yesterday and playing with him. But they don’t do much the first to months or so. Great to hear about your first grandson, coming soon. Buddy, you’ll enjoy that I know!
Loren Pogue
Paul, will we still be able to celebrate the birthday every year with cake and ice cream and SMBs even though the little fellow is in the states? As for college bring him home the schools are better and cheeper.
Paul Thompson
Loren;
I have always been of the belief that if you’re serving SMB’s you can pretty much keep the cake. Nothing sweet goes well with beer. I’ll let his folks deside on schools and such as that, I’ll be so old I won’t know where I am let alone him. (lol)
PapaDuck
Paul,
I’m so happy for you and your family. Will be looking forward to some photos of you holding little Jaden. So Paul when is your time to change the diapers? Thats one of the Lolo’s jobs lol. No worries Paul you will still be going strong in your 80’s, still doing your post every Monday. You have to be around to show him the right way to drink SMB’s lol. Have a nice day!
Paul Thompson
Papa Duck;
If I’m home by myself with the baby, the diaper will get changed. But at anyother time he’ll be quickly handed off to his parents!
Is there a wrond way to drink an SMB?
jonathan
Congrats Gran Matador errr Grand Dad! I’m sure Coco is happy, have you noticed that dogs love kids too? Best wishes to your family, Paul!!
Paul Thompson
Jonathan;
Thank you! All the dogs seem fascinated by the new baby, except our oldest dog Mini, she was a puppy when my granddaughter was a baby, and didn’t like the attention. If there are children in the house she goes up to my room and will stay there until they leave.
marjorie
Paul I noticed when pushing my Grandson round Robinsons Mall there was a lot of staff coming up and saying ‘Hello Baby’.
The nice thing about being a Grandparent is you can give them back when you have had enough. We have 5 Grandchildren, three here in the UK and 2 living near GenSan. We live a 2 hour journey from the three here so Grandad is in big demand when we are all together. Grandma is there to cuddle up to and be read to lol.
Paul Thompson
Marjorie;
We’ve not had Jaden out yet, but it is one of the things I look forward to. My daughter asked if I knew how to change diapers (Nappies)? I told her; “Yes, but I don’t! if I’m the only one there I would.” A head scratching moment.
Bob New York
Congratulations to you and your family Paul. Maybe soon you will have to move the San Mig bottles to a higher shelf in the refridgerator !
Paul Thompson
Bob;
I have a seperate REF just for beer, I’ll put a lock on it, not to keep out my grandson, but his father! (LOL)
Jim
Hi Paul – Best wishes to all on your new arrival. What an eventfull day with you getting a new water pump as well as a new grandson. I still think your due a new car as by now you must have replaced every part on the Honda.
Kind regards.
Jim.
Paul Thompson
Jim;
I was thinking the same thing about the car, then I remembered that there was nothing left to replace and the car was brand new again! It was like a 1978 Thunderbird I had detailed so I could sell it. It look so good I kept it two more years.
Jim
Paul – I just hope all the replacement parts are genuine hahaha!
Regards.
Jim.
Paul Thompson
Jim;
Fat chance of that! (lol)
Paul Thompson
Goran;
We were loaded with Mothers and Grandmothers, flowers that were bought for everyone. But my Mother passed many years ago, so I don’t get involved on that Hallmark Day. My wife expected something on our first Mother’s Day together and I explained that she was my wife, and not my mother. Now I always made sure the kids had plenty of money to make her day great. But we’ll never top a grandson!
willie luna
Congrats Lolo Paul on your new apo and congrats too to the rest of your wonderful family.
Paul Thompson
Willie;
Thank tou for your kind wishes, it feels good having a new baby around.
Mars Z.
Congrats, Paw Paw! a year from now he will be able to hand your flip-flop for you
Mars
Paul Thompson
Mars;
My grandfather was named Toot-to by my oldest brother Bill. Of course it became his name for the rest of his life. At work they called him Toot also, so I’m not sure of flip-flops, but a name, that’s for sure. Toot was short for William???
My granddaughter because of all her cousins calls me Daddy Paul” So she changed it to “Lolo Daddy Paul”. I’ll bet my new grandson does the same.
Mars Z.
So I guess it,s gonna be Paw Paw for me. My 14 month old grand daughter started calling me that already.
Paul Thompson
Mars;
If that’s the name she picked, then yes it is now is yours, from now until forever! (lol)
Paul Thompson
Mars;
If that’s the name she picked, then yes it is now is yours, from now until forever! (lol)

Ron
Congratulations to you and your family Paul. Nothing like a new grandson to love all over. You deserve about twenty more. (-: Ron
Paul Thompson
Ron:
Twenty more? There is not that much SMB on Earth! (lol)
sugar
Hi Paul – Born on mothers day! now that’s what you really call blessing! Congrats! first grandson, right? He’ll be spoiled little one. Most grandparents are spoilers anyway. Cheers!
Paul Thompson
Sugar;
My grandfather gave me a drum when I was five, my father gave my son Sean a drum when he was five. I asked my dad why? He said; “I’m even with the world again.” I will give Jaden a drum when he is five. Then I’ll be even with the world!
But spoiling is our job.
PapaDuck
Paul,
When Jaden starts beating on that drum it might drive you to start drinking even more SMB, which really wouldn’t be a bad thing lol
Paul Thompson
Papa Duck;
By his 5th birthday they might be living in the states, (Albeit I’ll never understand why) so I’ll not hear the drum, but if Jaden, is here, I’ll be 70 and deaf as a post and still not hear it. (lol)
