I was just surfing through our TV in search for a good show. I stopped on one channel; 608 on our sky box, It’s the E News Asia. On screen the teaser of their upcoming line-up for there month of June shows. I saw one of the famous families here in the Philippines. That Pinoy family will have a show on E News-Asia. That really surprised me that they’re going big in Asia. I just thought that there just big in the Philippines only. I guess I was wrong on that. LOL. Well, I think Filipinos will be proud of them being famous in Asia. The show called “It Takes Gutz To Be a Gutierrez“.
It takes Gutz to be a Gutierrez geared up similar towards “Keeping Up with The Kardashians” in the USA. That show’s been going for its 9th season. My understanding from the one of the Gutierrez they will copy the Kardashians being family oriented people like they will be all together as family through ups and downs. But I don’t think the Gutierrez will copy the way the Kardashians dress up and behave in public like going to some events just wearing almost nothing. Few stars did that and they were criticized badly. I think Filipinos are still not so open yet to wearing almost nothing in public. Thank God for that. Luckily few girls on the Gutierrez clan compared to the Kardashian clan. I guess the viewers can compare the Asian reality TV family life to the West reality TV family life. It’s really similar because the matriarch woman, she’s a momager to her husband and her kids and other famous stars here in the Philippines.
One of the big thing that came out on the first pilot of the It Takes Gutz, one of the main guy there ( he’s a big actor here in the Philippines), he announced that he and his girlfriend already had a love child that they keep from the public for over a year. We’ll see what the people think of that, him being so famous with the girls, would they still follow him? Are they going to be criticized having a child out of wedlock? We’ll see in a few months I guess on that.
Honestly, it’s so common nowadays to have kids without marriage. Even the momager she wants that her son should just live-in together for awhile first with his girlfriend before getting married. I can see her points on that since it’s hard to get an annulment here in the Philippines. It took forever for her oldest daughter to get one from her Turkish husband. Geez, now you guys are confused who these people that I’m talking about. Ha ha ha… I do encouraged you to watch the show “IT TAKES GUTZ TO BE A GUTIERREZ” every Sunday 9:30 pm. I saw part of the first episode and it’s a bit slow, I think because it’s new to them. Give them time to adjust to having people follow them around. My daughter and nieces keeping up with that and they will just tell me what’s going on. 🙂
I hardly watch local TV shows, I’m not a soap opera fanatic. I just know that there’s new soap because I saw on my news feed o my FB wall. At first I don’t know what my friends were talking about until I asked my niece or my daughter. Ha ha ha. They know better than me. If it’s cooking shows or building shows I’m in for it. LOL. You know what I mean. I like the cooking show mostly in US (Top Chef) & Australia (My Kitchen Rules/MKR) when it comes to cooking competition. Any cooking shows that interest me , I’m going to watch it. Then I’m so into the new show from Australia “House Rules”. I also like decorations and renovation shows like “Treehouse Master”, “Flipping Out” and others.
Have fun watching your show. Cheers!
Bill
Hi Bob,
I’m not familiar with the TV Programming down there in the Philippines. If I can get ESPN and a fall series called The Walking Dead I’ll be a happy camper. However, I believe (TWD) is coming to an end after the conclusion of its 5th season.
My favorite TV Channel is AMC (don’t think you guys have it though). I also enjoy watching Westerns. Otherwise, I don’t see myself watching a whole lot of TV either.
Is it true most of the programming is three years old anyway? I might bring a cheap DVD Player and just watch movies from time-to-time.
I think you’re right about society becoming more accepting of folks having kids out of wedlock. Guess it depends mostly of what region in the world it is.
I enjoyed the article. I’m sure I will get used to the programming there.
Take care!
Bill

Hi Bill – Just want to clarify.. this is Feyma’s article, I did not write this one! 🙂
Don’t worry, you can get just about any US TV shows here, and the current ones, within hours of when it shows in the USA. I will show you how to do it once you are here.
ESPN could be a problem. There are sports channels here, but they are geared more toward international type sports like soccer and such, than toward US sports. We’ll talk about it all once you are here.
Don’t spend your money on a US DVD player. Firstly, they are cheap here. Secondly, DVD players are coded by region. The DVD’s you buy here likely won’t play on a US player (unless you buy pirated DVDs, which are not region coded).
Bill
Thanks Bob!
I usually look at who the writer is, but didn’t tonight. Feyma, sorry about that! haha
I liked YOUR article because I actually like watching TV here. I find it relaxing to top off my day. However, I’ll be too excited at first to sit down for five minutes. haha
Bob, thanks for the information! 🙂
You both take care – see ya’s soon!!

Bill,
They have Fox and Star Sports which has a MLB Game every morning, NASCAR race the Monday after the race, college football on Sunday mornings during season. Theyalso have the NBA ChChannel.
Feyma
Hi PapaDuck – Too busy for me to be watching the cooking channel I didn’t noticed the other channel though. Ha ha ha…
Yep, I’ve seen those channel that you’ve mention too. My kids are all NBA fanatics.
Thank you for sharing PapaDuck. Have a great day!
Feyma
Not a problem Bill. Don’t worry for the first few months I don’t think you will be thinking of watching TV. You might be too busy keeping your life in order here. LOL.
You take care too…. See you soon.

There are such things as ” All Region DVD ” players. From what I was told by Sony UK a few years ago, most of them are but manufacturers can not sell them that way. If a retail dealer has the codes they can enter the code to make a dvd player play all region coded dvd’s. Some dealers will do it, some not.
If someone is going to bring their collection of region 1 ( USA discs)with them when they move there it might not be a bad idea to have at least 1 dvd player from the USA to play them on until they can find an ” All Region ” DVD Player there in PH . Cheapies here can be had for $19.95 if you look, brand new. If it were me I’d get a couple of them. Just make sure you have a stepdown transformer to plug them into in PH. That would be my reason to have at least 2 of them LOL .

We bought an all region DVD player here in Manila for about P600… Not enough money to even worry about it. In fact, Shopwise was giving DVD players away not too long ago for loyalty points (on groceries). Most of the DVD players sold here are either all regions or multiple regions… The people selling them can tell you right away so you can make certain your DVDs bought in the USA will work here
Feyma
Thank you for sharing John.
Take care!
MindanaoBob
Yes, there are multi region DVD players easily available here in the Philippines. I don’t think that Bill would find a multi-region DVD player for sale in the USA, though. He was talking of buying a player there and bringing it with him here, I don’t think that would be a wise thing to do.

The Walking Dead is on Fox Asia, and they showed the last season simulcast with the US broadcast… at 9:00am. Don’t worry about that show…. They showed reruns 4 or 5 times during the week in the season and are still rerunning it now.
Sports is a bit more tricky, especially if you are into something like NHL games. You can subscribe to a ton of sports channes on Sky cable, including the NBA channel, and the cable is really improving on the quantity of PPV offerings, too. Sky offered a MLB “pack”, too, for something like P500 per month (I’m not a sports fan, so I’m largely indifferent)
Honestly, since moving here, there is far more availability of US shows. Any big “hit” in the USA will eventually be on here, sometimes ad nauseum (repeated 10 times during the week). The biggest issue is that for the less popular shows, the airings may be delayed several months before it is shown here. That, and the fact that the longer you are here, you tend to lose touch with what is coming.

Reality shows like those are….far out. My opinion.
People without talent doing nothing, but show a bad example for young people. Not just the ones mentioned, but there’s a lot of those shows. Reality they call it…yeah right, not my kind of reality and not many peoples reality.
Even news media start to report scandals and extreme behavior from these TV Shows. Headlines…and news about real life and happenings can get a little column,
¨
I guess i made MY opinion very clear about that kind of TV “entertainment” 😀 I’m just happy that i got the fastest remote in the east.
Bill
Axe,
That’s true! It’s like radio. If you don’t like the channel – change it. It’s that simple. I’m not into reality TV either. You know what I think started it? Matter of fact, I believe I read it somewhere that the live broadcast of the OJ Simpson trial got it going full steam.
MindanaoBob
There are lots of reality shows that I actually enjoy. Probably my favorite is Deadliest Catch. Great show!

Duck Dynasty cracks me up…. The best way to explain the term “redneck” to Filipinos. Explaining “coonass” is easier with Swamp People.
Feyma
Hi Axel – Try and watch the good reality show. Some really gives nice lessons in life. Some are just for fun. :-)… Keep a close eye on your remote. LOL..
Have a great day!

Mrs Feyma,
I just think there is way too much reality tv. Every time you turn around there is a new one. Its like theres a show for everything.
Feyma
So true PapaDuck. We like some of them.
Cheers!
