Its over a month now that I have been working to helping a friend renovating his new place. He wanted to move, and asked me to find the perfect place for him. I think I did too! He really loves the place because its near the water. The house is really big. It has the number of bedrooms he wanted. The master bedroom will be something after we are done renovating.
I didn’t really realize it will take this long to renovate. My friend is really picky when it comes to the work. He really wants it nicely done. So I hired some people that I can fully trust with the work. Its Jun, my brother-in-law, and Jun Jun. They do very good work. They’ve been working for me and Bob before. They know how Bob wanted a nice job and our friend is just like Bob on that.
So I’ve been working now for over a month and the place is starting to look good. We are renovating the entire house. The upstairs was made into the master bedroom with nice office with built in cabinets that my people built for my friend. One bedroom was completely turned into a walk in closet, and the walk in closet even has air conditioning.
The house has two kitchens, one upstairs and one downstairs. Our people built cupboards and a pantry in the upstairs kitchen. A huge master suite with a veranda over looking the Davao gulf and Mt. Apo. Jun Jun built French doors to the terrace. It used to be that the upstairs was very open with 2 bedrooms with a really huge living room and the terrace too. A previous renter added some rooms to make it to 5 bedroom upstairs. Then another renter took the added rooms off to make one big master’s bedroom but it was open from the stairway to go downstairs. The old renter he didn’t mind the open room without walls to the stairs because he did not have anybody with him in the house. The cleaning lady just came there twice a week to clean.
My friend now wanted to close in the whole upstairs, so we just put door from the top of the stairs to the master suite. He made the whole upstairs into his own whole bedroom suite and it turned out really nice and cozy.
I hired a good painter to paint the whole place. They are not done yet it will take them awhile. Jun and Jun Jun, the carpenters really did a good job on making the house nice. My friend wanted astorage room under the stairs, so we closed part of the bar area underneath the stairs and made it into storage room. My friend is not much of a drinker he would rather have the storage than the bar.
My friend has lots of stuff coming from the States. It will be here soon. We still have a lot of work to do. We are also making another kitchen outside with barbecue place and a smoker. Bob and I have been wanting to have smoker and we talked to our friend and he wants it too. Bob has some designs for smoker in mind already were just waiting for Jun Jun to get finish with the renovating.
I think my carpenters will have another project at our house, we have a barbecue pit that I want them to fix. They are trying to fix it and put a roof and hood for the smoke. They are going to build for us a nice smoker too. Another friend is wanting Jun and Jun Jun to build a cabinet for her. Jun Jun already draw the design and she likes it. She’s just waiting for them to get finished from the renovation what they are doing and our barbecue pit. I’m excited to finish up our barbecue place too. They will also need to repair the roof of our storage area. Gosh, whenever they are in town I have so many projects for them to do.
I will post my finished renovation pictures later. I think we still have a week of work before we finish. I will have other projects after this. Honestly it was supposed to be a 2 week job and it turned into about 8 weeks job. My carpenters really built a lot of stuff on this house and fixed some damage on the house too. I’m really happy right now. I’m very excited to see the end of this renovation. I will post some pictures of the house the before picture and I will post later too when we are done with the renovation. More post next time.
Cheers!

Hi feyma i think just from the photos that you have posted it will look fantastic very modern , as i think i have mentioned my wife and i originally were looking at homes in davao then we settled on buying land on samal, we still get news and emails from davao real estate i dont mind as it lets me look at what is going on in the market place and , my wife says that they will rip us of anyway but i dont know ,there was one house on there that i could have lived in very easily not flash just new but the layout wa great i always say to her that if we ever win the lotto i will fly there and buy it stright away it was really nice , one thing i love about the houses there is the use of tiles on the floor they look so good and also some of the carpentry work that is done is very very good i am byast being one myself we have drawn up one desighn for our lot on samal but i want to see what other types of homes will be built there so that ours does not look od or out of place, currently i am coresponding with a guy from england who is living in santiago issabele to be precise he is haveing his house ( mansion) uilt by a company callled north con it has been very interestin as he has posted lots of photos and videos as the construction has evolved , one place that i have visited on the net the couple built a traditional house i think they call it a nippa hut but even that would go well on samal i think very casual and open if you had a resort these would be ideal huts for guests and the bamboo looked great the way it was done something i want to learn to use fantastic stuff anyway hope to see more of this renovation as your photos becoma availablle
cheers boatcrazy

Hi chris – Thank you. I will post more pictures after I’m done with the renovation.
The good thing right now if you are thinking of building anything you have the means to study it first, like what you are doing. Has lots of ideas on the net to learn. To avoid being ripped off, try to know who your builders are and learn more about them from other people they built houses for before.
Good luck with your house hunting and building in Samal later. All the best to you and your wife.
Thank you so much for stopping by here. Take care!

Hi Feyma;
It looks like you’re working very hard and the house looks wonderful. Could you clear up something I don’t understand, you mentioned renters. Is your friend buying or renting?
Mike
Feyma,
Beautiful work! I’ll be looking forward to seeing more, when the renovation is complete. Yes, we North Americans & Europeans can be very fussy about what we want, especially when we are building/renovating for retirement. Air-con in the walk-in closet? LOL, that is a very interesting addition. I’d love to know the reasoning behind it.
